The story interleaves the destinies of two families, a Serbian from Bosnia and a Hungarian, in a village on the Yugoslav-Hungarian border after the WW2. The most of them were expelled, while their properties were offered to the Serbs of Bosnia, the core of the Partisan army in the past war. However, all of them have to face the brutality and injustice of new government, which tries to crush any resistance in introducing a new order, which denies the right to private property. However, in the hard times, despite the regime cruelty and a rigidity of the national tradition, an empathy and compassion of a simple man remain the only hope for better future
