The movie is neither bad nor extraordinary, but it's not Comedy, absolutely not, it's a specific Romanian Communist Bond, James Bond being Captain Cernea (Victor Rebengiuc), well, a Romanian Securitate officer. A very young and beautiful Leopoldina Balanuta (Livia Gregorian as character) is the woman who will be implicated against her will in this whole story, a rather incredible story with an individual, Nicolae Sireteanu, as engineer Alexandru (in fact, an ex-Nazi) who photographs some documents, only after he puts the Securitate agents on false tracks, he having access to those documents at any time, being in his own safe, with him having the key alone. Dorin Dron, a very natural Romanian actor, who would have deserved much more consistent roles, is the bad guy that will be replaced by Rebengiuc. Other baddies are Toma Dimitriu, Haralambie Boros and Iurie Darie. Colea Rautu and Gheorghe Maruta are two superiors of the Securitate. Amza Pellea, the star of later Romanian films, has only a small role, another Securitate officer. Many Securitate officers in this film, as they were in real life, their presence not being obvious... They could have been anybody, your father, your uncle, an aunt, anybody. Well, not quite like in the German Democratic Republic, where, from any 3 members of the entire population, 1 was a member or informer of STASI, the secret political police. Draga Olteanu Matei, her too a future star in Romanian films, has also a tiny role. Petre Luscalov, one of the two authors of the script, is also the author of a novel that enchanted my childhood in Bucharest, Romania, "Ostrovul lupilor", published in serial in the weekly magazine "Cutezorii". I was buying each number eagerly to read about the adventures of Scatiu and Babusca, I've also read in front of the class, at school, when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. A few years later, "Ostrovul lupilor" (Wolves Island) became a film "Babusca's Adventures" (1973) The Adventures of Babusca (original title), not as successful as the writing. I've personally met Leopoldina Balanuta in 1982, when I've worked 4 months as a fireman-doorman at Teatrul Mic (The Little Theater), a sensitive woman, I've read some of my best poems to her. And I've met Victor Rebengiuc too, I've met him in 1997-1998, when, for a year, I've worked at the newly established ARCUB cultural institution, having as a director an ungrateful and highly arrogant Nicolae Scarlat, who had as head in the City Hall a bigger bumptious idiot named Damian. Yes, for me, it was the accident of being born among such idiots, in full communism, in this very beautiful and unique country called Romania.
