This Hungarian movie, like its main character, deals with a village to which neither belongs any longer. This is a story of a man imprisoned for 22 years in Siberia, and freed during Sino-Soviet conflicts in Siberia (one of the reasons for the English title CHINESE DEFENSE). The man tries to return to his village with a few Dollars and little idea of the New World Order; Transylvania is now in Romania and no longer in Hungary among other changes. The ensuing mayhem with the Romanian "party committees" and "Securitate" may be amusing. I think it all depends on your knowledge of Hungarian/Romanian history, and of the Cold War period in that part of Europe particularly during the early Ceaucescu years.
