The exterior diner scenes were filmed in the small town of Liberty, South Carolina. In real life, the diner is a wood shop and the $15/night hotel is a laundromat.
None of this film was shot in Missoula, MT.
Skeet Ulrich and Cuba Gooding Jr. previously appeared together in As Good as It Gets (1997). Both actors also later starred in films about sled dogs: Chilly Dogs (2001) and Snow Dogs (2002).
