Satirizing terrorism is as tricky as making molar surgery mirthful. Abhishek Sharma did it once in Tere Bin Laden, then fell flat on his farce with a raunchy sexed-up version of Basu Chatterjee’s Shaukeen. So Sharma is back doing what he thinks he is best at.

And though it has its ha-hee-hee-ho-ho moments, it is not quite the….errr… blast that it promises to be, mainly because the characters behave as though they are in a stand-up comedy act where every actor must…well, act. So everyone is acting all the time…sometimes double-acting because some of the pointedly parodic people, like Sikandar Kher who plays – don’t laugh – a CIA agent masquerading as a Bollywood film producer – lead double lives, alas, failing to generate double laughter.

Fans of Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar will have surely seen the newly released poster for The Shaukeens this week. The film, out on November 7th is a remake of Basu Chatterjee’s 1982 comedy Shaukeen and is directed by Abhishek Sharma of Tere Bin Laden fame.

The feel-good adventure film follows three middle-aged men played by Annu Kapoor, Piyush Mishra and Anupam Kher, who venture on a trip to Bangkok, where they meet the sizzling hot Lisa Haydon. The posters are colourful, bright and beach-inspired with Lisa taking centre stage on one poster, while superstar Akshay fills the other poster, sporting aviators and a casual top.

Also arousing curiosity amongst film goers is the creative motion poster, in which we can hear voices and see visuals of three sets of dentures. The motion poster gives away very little and leaves fans guessing as to what to expect next.

Bollywood actor, Akshay Kumar, is always finding new ways to entertain his audiences, whether it be performing dangerous stunts or doing the unexpected that leaves the audience awestruck. Now Akshay has attempted a never-before-dreamt stunt for his upcoming film, The Shaukeens.

Along with his stunning leading lady in the film, Lisa Haydon, there is a scene where the two are sitting on a couch and hanging mid-air, which has left everybody speechless. This scene was shot with the help of a chopper, which flew the two stars on the red couch, high up in the air.

This decision was put forward by Akshay himself, who was inspired by a Tom and Jerry episode, and insisted that this scene has to be included in the film. The scene was shot on a stunning beach in Cape Town.

After many setbacks, the remake of the 80s Bollywood classic Shaukeen starring Akshay Kumar and Lisa Haydon, finally went on floor few weeks back and now the makers have decided to re-title the film. While initially they decided to retain the original title, now they believe that it should be titled as The Shaukeens.

Producer Murad Khetani stated that the title change adds the contemporary touch. Though it is an official remake, according to Murad, it is only the essence of the previous film that has been maintained. However, the story and the characters have undergone some changes in order to make it relevant to modern times. They are also planning to add some more humour, colour, more glamour and edginess in order to present it as a complete package. They feel that the current title adds to the coolness quotient and will be able to attract the youth audience too.

For some time now, it has been a topic of discussion as to who would be replacing Nargis Fakhri in the film Shaukeen alongside Akshay Kumar. Now we hear that Lisa Haydon who was last seen in the recently released film Queen will be taking up the mantle of being the leading lady. Shaukeen, a remake of Basu Chatterjee's 1982 hit, will see Lisa essaying the role of Akshay Kumar's girlfriend, whom three old men - played by Anupam Kher, Annu Kapoor and Piyush Mishra will be seen lusting after. Confirming these developments, producer Aditya Bhatia says, "Yes, we're doing a remake of Baaton Baaton Mein. The details are now being worked out." Even before the remake of Basu Chatterjee's 1982 film Shaukeen could go on floor, the film seems to have hit rock bottom. Rumi Jaffrey, who was supposed to direct the film, has opted out of it.

Apparently, the reason for the sudden exit is said to be date clashes. Rumi, who was pretty kicked about the project revealed that the film got delayed to January instead of October and that, he had other commitments to fulfill. The writer-director also expressed his unhappiness over his exit from the remake and hopes that despite his absence, the film proves successful.

Shaukeen, the 1980 Basu Chatterjee comic film about three old men lusting after a girl next-door, is all set to be remade by Rumi Jaffery. Interestingly, Akshay Kumar has been roped in to play the character of Mithun Chakraborty. While the female lead originally played by Rati Agnihotri will be essayed by Nargis Fakhri.

Even after 37 years of “Sholay”, it is very unlikely that one can forget the character actor A. K. Hangal who played the notable role of “Rahim Chacha” in the film with his famous one liner, “Itna sannata kyon hai, bhai”. Hangal, who passed away on August 26, in his last interview, given two months ago to Niilesh A Raje and Rajesh Subramanian:

Mumbai, Aug 27: Rohit Roy was was hoping to cast A.K. Hangal in the remake of 1982 film "Shaukeen", but rues his wish will remain unfulfilled after the veteran actor's demise Sunday.

Hangal played Inder Sen, one of the three old men in the Basu Chatterjee movie, which also features Ashok Kumar and Utpal Dutt.

Rohit was set to direct a new age version of the movie, with Bipasha Basu in the lead, and wished Hangal could have shot a cameo for.

The year 2012 has indeed been quite tragic for Bollywood as the industry has lost many a great talent this year. On early Sunday morning, yet another stalwart of Hindi cinema breathed his last. Yes we are indeed talking about the great A.K. Hangal saab who left for his eternal abode after being critically ill for a while. Hangal was admitted to the Asha Parekh Hospital in Santacruz on August 16, after he slipped and fell in his bathroom on August 14, fracturing his right thigh bone. Prior to this, the actor had also been suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis, chronic kidney disease and hypertension. Hangal has entertained us with his memorable performances in films like Sholay, Saagar, Shaukeen, Aandhi, Kora Kagaz, Bawarchi, Avtaar, Arjun and many more. His last few films included Aamir Khan's Lagaan and Shah Rukh Khan's Paheli. He even recently shot for a TV serial called 'Madhubala'. Hangal...

The other night Sholay was coming on one of the movie channels and on another channel Shaukeen was being shown. Both were the films where A K Hangal had a role to play and though the films must have had a time difference of more than a decade between themselves, in both the films A K Hangal appeared to be of the same old age. Indeed Ak Hangal the character actor whom everybody would remember for the enactment of the role of Rahim Chacha in Sholay bid adieu to this world yesterday.

Veteran Hindi cinema actor A.K. Hangal passed away in Mumbai on Sunday morning after prolonged illness related to old age. He will be cremated Sunday afternoon at Vile Parle crematorium.

Hangal started his career with Basu Bhattacharya’s Teesri Kasam in 1966 and went on to act in around 225 Hindi films.

He is remembered for his roles in films like Namak Haraam, Shaukeen, Sholay, Aaina, Avtaar, Arjun, Aandhi, Tapasya, Kora Kagaz, Bawarchi, Chhupa Rustam, Chitchor, Balika Badhu, Guddi and Naram Garam.

Hangal was awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan from the government of India for his contribution to Hindi Cinema in 2006.

He is survived by his son Vijay Hangal.

Mumbai, June 15: Actor-filmmaker Rohit Roy says Bipasha Basu has given a heads up for his next directorial venture, a remake of 1982 classic "Shaukeen".

"Bipasha loved the script and agreed to do the film... But can't confirm when we go on floors as the casting is still in progress," tweeted Rohit, who has earlier directed "Rice Plate", one of the 10 short films in "Dus Kahaniyaan".
