Prolific filmmaker Woody Allen might not have a title or a released logline for his latest feature ready just yet, but he’s already announced quite a cast. The untitled feature film is set to star “Call Me By Your Name” breakout Timothée Chalamet, alongside Elle Fanning and Selena Gomez. The film will be theatrical distributed through Amazon Studios, who collaborated with the filmmaker for his most recent films, “Cafe Society” and the upcoming “Wonder Wheel.”
Details on the new project are not yet available, but it’s safe to assume it will likely focus on fraught relationships between a wide-ranging cast of metropolitan types.

Right in the middle of WW2, 20th Fox struck religious pay dirt with two respectful religion-themed movies, one about a miracle and another about the hard life of a priest. Each created a new Hollywood star. Five years later there began a regular Hollywood Bible War. In 1949 Cecil B. DeMille released his first Biblical epic in Technicolor, Samson and Delilah, throwing violence, sex and hammy acting at the screen in even measure. MGM bounced back with a tremendous production of...

Riding a wave of high expectations and faux-outrage from male zealots who don’t like their childhoods infected by cooties, “Ghostbusters” has finally opened in theaters and the reviews are generally positive, albeit with more than a few caveats. Following a ghost invasion of Manhattan, paranormal enthusiasts Erin Gilbert and Abby Yates (Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy), nuclear engineer Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon), and subway worker Patty Tolan (Leslie Jones) all band together to stop the otherworldly threat.
IndieWire‘s own Eric Kohn gave the film a mixed review, praising the film as an “explicitly feminist reworking of the popular franchise” with a crackerjack cast, but also said that the film marinates in old ides rather than new ones: “As ghostly occurrences grow more frequent and the Ghostbusters face down a series of CGI baddies around town, neither Robert Yeoman...

Burt Reynolds, one of We Are Movie Geeks favorite actors, turns 80 today. Happy Birthday Burt!
On February 11th, 1936, Reynolds was born in Waycross, Georgia, before his family moved to Jupiter Florida, where his father served as Chief of Police. Young Burt excelled at sports and played football at Florida State University. He became an All Star Southern Conference halfback (and was earmarked by the Baltimore Colts) before injuries sidelined his football career. He dropped out of college and headed to New York with dreams of becoming an actor. There he worked in restaurants and clubs while pulling the odd TV job or theater role. Burt was spotted in a New York City stage production of Mister Roberts and signed to a TV contract and eventually had recurring roles in such shows as Gunsmoke (1955), Riverboat (1959) and his own series, Hawk...

"Belle"
What's It About? This 18th century English romance is about Dido Belle (Gugu Mbatha-Raw), a biracial woman raised by her aristocratic great uncle and aunt, Lord and Lady Mansfield. She grows up alongside her cousin Elizabeth (Sarah Gadon) as equals and best friends, but as they come of age, their differences become all too apparent -- to each other and to their would-be suitors. Meanwhile, Lord Mansfield (Tom Wilkinson) is facing a trial as Lord Chief Justice of England that could change the future of slavery. Will Dido find love on her own terms?
Why We're In: It's an elegant period piece perfect for Jane Austen fans, and it's a subtle but effective examination of the intersection of class and race in 18th century England. Mbatha-Raw is fantastic, and director Amma Asante has an excellent eye for detail.

Cologne, Germany -- Roman Polanski will remain in a Swiss jail until at least Friday while authorities await his $4.5 million bail payment. But the director's latest film, "The Ghost," looks set to travel to the Berlin International Film Festival in February.
On Tuesday, German distributor Kinowelt announced it would release "The Ghost" on Feb.18, 2010 -- in the middle of the Berlin fest, which is set for Feb. 11-21.
Kinowelt declined comment, but sources close to the production confirmed "The Ghost" would premiere at the 60th Berlin festival. The official festival debut is likely to come in the first week -- ahead of the national rollout Feb. 18. It is unclear whether "The Ghost" will run in competition in Berlin or as a special gala screening, though insiders suggest the latter.
The Berlin festival could not be reached for comment Tuesday, but organizers rarely comment on Berlin's lineup outside of official press conferences.
