Experienced director Paul Martin (1899-1967, "Glückskinder") shot this unusual adventure film, also known as "Diamond Walkers", in South Africa (Lone Hill Studios Johannesburg / Upington on the Northern Cape) with an almost entirely German-speaking cast.
The Habari tribe smuggles diamonds, which is not uncommon in southern Africa. But murders are increasing, which brings Sergeant Barrett (Brian O'Shaughnessy) into the picture. Apparently a certain Ngela (Simon Sabela) is the mastermind in the background. At the same time, the rich businessman De Ridder wants to organize a safari for his beautiful daughter Irene (Marisa Mell, 1939-1992) and her somewhat boring fiancé Peter Wade (Joachim Hansen, 1930-2007). For this purpose, the robust Mike Johnson (Harald Leipnitz, 1926-2000) is hired, who knows his way around the savannah very well. The trio is completed by the blonde Karen Truter (Ann Smyrner, 1934-2016). Blinded by the De Ridders' wealth and stimulated by Ngela and his machinations, Johnson becomes increasingly greedy and ultimately goes completely crazy. Irene and Peter not only have to defend themselves against wild animals, but also find themselves caught between all human fronts...
You can tell that this is a ready-made, off-the-shelf adventure film. The only thing that is unusual is the environment in which the whole thing takes place. Beautiful landscape shots, lots of animals in the wild, but of course also an unpleasant big game hunter mentality! Apparently something like that was well received by cinema audiences in German-speaking countries.
