Like "Jim Clark" - a/k/a Screw magazine co-founder Jim Buckley - of DEBBIE DOES DALLAS fame (who repeated his single party trick with not only 2 direct sequels but with THE GOOD GIRLS OF GODIVA HIGH and WET, WILD AND WICKED) , the late John Christopher a/k/a "Carl LaBlanche" specialized in hardcore high school romps with legally aged actresses pretending to be sexually inexperienced if eager to learn youngsters.
While 1983's PIGGY'S (a PORKY'S take-off, get it ?) is usually considered the best of a thematically homogeneous lot, it's impossible to dislike this equally lighthearted precursor that casts then spanking new starlet Misty Regan (one year prior to her indelible supporting role in Sam Weston's NOTHING TO HIDE and well before her tempestuous marriage to porn auteur John Bowen a/k/a "John T. Bone") as bubbly young Velvet, the most popular girl in school. There's just one problem though. While there's no shortage of male attention, she has yet to experience the big O. This is doubly frustrating when none of her girlfriends (fan favorites such as Merle Michaels, Christie Ford and Robin Sane, credited as "Carolyn Sand") seem to share this particular hangup. Could bulky, balding pump jockey Piggy (sometime director Carter Stevens in a surprisingly amiable part), who she frequently trades insults with, really be the amazing lover she has been waiting for ?
True, the story's pure porno pulp but the enthusiastic cast manage to bring an infectious sense of fun to the exceedingly silly proceedings. Strikingly polished cinematography (even for a Golden Age flick) and a classy if mostly borrowed soundtrack (containing several selections from Pino Donaggio's DRESSED TO KILL score) further up the ante. The bodies on display are fit and firm, Misty's especially, and put to good use in a succession of energetic encounters. Misty and Robin Sane take an outdoors tumble with cowboy Ron Hudd in one particular highlight, with the star's literally climactic roll in the sheets with the unlikely Piggy vying for top honors. Regan and Stevens share an apparently special chemistry in latter scene, yet the latter has confided since that he didn't like the actress at all - literally describing her as a "stuck-up little bitch" - and that he deliberately pushed her towards a teeth-grinding orgasm just to spite her ! Mmmm...with enemies like that...
