Both leads, Will Friedle and Elisabeth Harnois, have appeared in Boy Meets World (1993), though their characters did not interact. Friedle was a series regular, portraying the main character Eric Matthews, the older brother of Cory Matthews, played by Ben Savage. Harnois had a guest appearance in The Last Temptation of Cory (1995), where she played Missy Robinson, a girl who kisses Cory while Topanga is sick.

In a 2021 podcast interview, Elisabeth Harnois stated that she still had the pink mini dress from this film. She would later correct this statement in a 2023 interview, having discovered that she didn't actually have it after going through her belongings. That said, she did have a few other stuff from the film, specifically Hallie's formal blue dress.

The film's costume designer, Delphine White, found Hallie's pink mini dress in a Toronto boutique. Her decision to choose it to be Hallie's primary outfit in the film was for how it would impact the character's growth over the course of the film. "I wanted it to be a departure from what she was normally required to wear as the president's daughter. I chose pink, not only because it worked for Elisabeth but also because it worked for the character. Because, in many ways, we're reclaiming pink. Being able to wear it when you're at your wildest is a statement of strength to me. And for this character, that evening was like a release from prison. From all of the restrictions that she had in her life. She was dying to get out and experience life and had a real sense of adventure."
