One of Disney+'s greatest successes thus far has been "X-Men '97," a revival of the first series-length "X-Men" cartoon that aired in the '90s. The premise screamed "cheap nostalgia" louder than even Banshee or Siryn could, but instead, it was made by people who cared about the material and had something to say with it, so "X-Men '97" turned out to be easily one of the best screen adaptations of these comic book heroes. There's a reason the first season is one of Marvel Studios' most acclaimed projects.
We already knew "X-Men '97" has been renewed for a second and third season. Previously on "X-Men '97," the first season ended on a cliffhanger with the team scattered across time. Professor X, Magneto, Rogue, Nightcrawler, and Beast were sent back to ancient Egypt and met a young Apocalypse, then just going by the name En Sabah Nur. Cyclops and...

Controversial EC Comics, which warped young minds with tales of horror and suspense and spawned spinoffs in film and TV, has returned with original stories in a new anthology series.
Oni Press has licensed the EC Comics banner and last month released its first issue, Epitaphs From the Abyss. The second, Cruel Universe, arrives this month with a focus on science fiction stories.
The EC Comics brand has a fabled history.
EC Comics stopped publishing all but its humor magazine, Mad, in 1956 because of government censorship pressures and accusations of fomenting juvenile delinquency. As a result, the Comics Code Authority was created to regulate the industry.
The new series is a partnership between Oni Press and the family of William M. Gaines, the original publisher of EC Comics, who died in1992.
EC Comics brought the world series like Tales from the Crypt and Weird Science.

Sharon Osbourne exited Celebrity Big Brother after spending eight days in the most famous house in the UK.
Osbourne was a “lodger” and wasn’t an official housemate, having agreed to appear in the reality competition for only one week. The former The Talk co-host was not evicted from the house and didn’t face the public vote.
“It’s been a great party. I have loved it,” Osbourne said after Big Brother announced her time had ended.
Big Brother asked Osbourne to name the housemates who impacted her most, saying it was Nikita Kuzmin.
“He’s beautiful inside and outside,” Osbourne said about the Strictly Come Dancing dancer.
Osbourne also mentioned Levi Roots because “he’s just a genuinely good guy.”

Exclusive: Star Trek icon Jonathan Frakes is to direct a 10-part series based on novel and audio book Deathlands.
The series comes from NextCypher, the indie that crypto pioneer Jeff Garzik launched last year, and is set to begin shooting in Sofia, Bulgaria, this spring. When we first told about the show in August 2022, Garzik described it as “Mad Max: Fury Road meets Yellowjackets in an epic post-apocalyptic sci-fi adventure.”
Mark A. Altman as the showrunner and executive producer. Thomas P. Vitale and Garzik are also executive producers. Christine Sheaks is handling global casting efforts.
Frakes — known for his role as Commander William Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Picard and several Star Trek movies — is directing. “One of the things that I find so compelling about Deathlands is that it’s a series about hope and the...

When Star Trek returned to television screens after two decades in 1987, it looked very different from its predecessor. Gone were James T. Kirk, Mr. Spock, and Bones, most of whom planned to return in the original sequel series Star Trek: Phase II. In their place stood a bald Shakespearean actor, the breakout star of the television miniseries Roots, and a member of Muppet creator Jim Henson’s team.
From those unlikely beginnings, Star Trek: The Next Generation grew to match and, for some, exceed the original series. Much of that success came from the cast, who had a far easier camaraderie than their predecessors and, some might argue, a more impressive resume. Before and after Trek, these actors became beloved figures in genre cinema and television, proving that they are even more than the crew who boldly went where no one had gone before.

If you had $700,000 and less than three weeks to shoot a horror movie with your friends, how do you think it would go? Would the limited budget and schedule cripple your creativity, or would it inspire something inside you that would lead to one of the most acclaimed genre films of the 21st century? Well, let’s ask James Wan and Leigh Whannell. They have individually carved out their own impressive corners in the film industry, but while these days the filmmakers are working on giant studio projects and getting rich, they were once just a pair of film students who just wanted to make their first movie. A movie that would draw inspiration from the explosive success of the now iconic found footage film,...

Malignant (watch it Here) is your worst nightmare. Whenever the mood strikes and I’m looking for a spooky, atmospheric midnight movie to deliver on the thrills and chills, I’ll turn to Malignant to satisfy the craving. It’s a movie that showcases every one of James Wan’s directorial sensibilities and combines what we love about of each of his films. It’s got the sleepy and somber look of Insidious, the cold and foggy lighting of Dead Silence and the utter brutality of Saw– while also giving us the incredible cinematography and unsettling horror of The Conjuring. There’s a specific feeling that Malignant evokes which makes you as intrigued as you are afraid. A specific “sleep walking through your...

The writers strike caused a lot of films and TV shows to shut down production a couple months ago – and a lot more that were able to continue filming without writers have since been shut down by the Screen Actors Guild strike. But if a production happens to be independent, it can receive a waiver that will allow it to continue filming and its actors will continue working, even if they’re SAG members. Deadline and Variety report that some of the projects that have received SAG waivers include the Sam Raimi-produced horror film Don’t Move, the Mel Gibson / Mark Wahlberg thriller Flight Risk, the thriller The Watchers, and Hannibal TV series creator Bryan Fuller’s Dust Bunny, starring Mads Mikkelsen and Sigourney Weaver.

Hollywood’s historic double strike has shut down the vast majority of productions across the country but not all of them.
On Tuesday, SAG-AFTRA approved certain productions that aren’t affiliated with any of the struck studios or streamers to keep filming. The list includes David Lowery’s Mother Mary and Rebel Wilson comedy Bride Hard.
Independent productions not affiliated with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers members can apply for waivers from SAG-AFTRA to continue production, the union stated. The waivers mostly apply to independent projects, though Biblical project The Chosen was granted one to finish filming its fourth season even though Lionsgate has distribution rights. Members can work on these shoots without being in violation of the strike order.
To be granted a waiver, a production must sign an interim agreement that “would largely be conformed to the AMPTP agreement on a going-forward basis once the membership ratifies successor agreements,...

The fourth season of Angel Studios’ independent Christian series “The Chosen” was among the list of 39 productions approved by SAG-AFTRA to continue filming during its ongoing actors strike.
Projects that are not being produced by a Hollywood studio that is a member of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers may apply to sign an interim agreement that would allow production to continue and for SAG-AFTRA members to perform without being in violation of the strike order. More productions are expected to be approved in the coming weeks.
While past seasons have been licensed out to streaming services like Amazon Prime and Netflix, “The Chosen” gets its budget entirely from crowdfunding, as millions have contributed to the production starring Jonathan Roumie as Jesus of Nazareth. “The Crown” is back — and so is the Netflix series’ accompanying drama about what is and is not factually accurate. This season feels particularly explosive, as the first batch of episodes to take place in the oh-so-well-documented 1990s. Among the many topics tackled are the dissolution of marriages, the discovery of the remains of the Tsar of Russia and his family, the election of Tony Blair — and Prince Philip’s obsession with carriage driving.
In order to sift through what is historically accurate and what is merely conjecture (if not outright dramatic fiction), we turn to the Internet’s favorite arbiter of fact versus fantasy: Jonathan Frakes, the host of late ’90s meme-fave “Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction.” Are these “um, what?!?” moments true? Or is Peter Morgan just pulling the crown over our eyes?
Did Prince Charles really cut short his second honeymoon with Diana and their children?
Although...

Parents undoubtedly love their children, but every now and then, they want some time off. That’s where a babysitter or nanny comes in. If everything goes to plan, these domestic godsends can be in and out in a few hours with some extra money in hand, as well as the satisfaction of knowing they helped ease a parent’s stress for a short while.

Alexandra Burke, singer, song-writer and British X-Factor winner, has signed on to play the villainess in this year’s London Palladium pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk.
Oh yes she has!
Burke joins already announced stars Dawn French, Julian Clary, Paul Zerdin, Nigel Havers and Gary Wilmot. The panto runs at the Palladium from December 10 through January 15.
The Brits love their pantos at Christmas. Michael Harrison, who heads Crossroads Pantomimes, has turned the Palladium panto into a must-see event with spectacular sets and costumes, plenty of song and dance coupled with over-the-top jokes.
Last season Burke played Scheherazade — the Spirit of the Ring in Aladdin at the Opera House, Manchester.
”This year I’ve got Dawn as Jack’s mum and Alexandra as Mrs. Blunderbore, the giant’s wife. She’s the villainess and she’ll be terrorizing Dawn,” Harrison told Deadline.
Harrison revealed that Burke sees Mrs. Blunderbore as having “a Cruella flavour about her.

Welcome to the first Versus of 2022 and it is a big one to start! This year I wanted to go bigger than just pitting similar characters together. 2022 is also the 30th anniversary of the birth of Image Comic, so what better way to start than by having the Image 7 face off in the versus arena, with their biggest and best issues going toe-to-toe. The story of Image Comics is still fascinating to this day and it still represents the biggest seismic shift in the comic industries landscape. In a nutshell, the era is the early 90s, the seven biggest talents in the industry are all working for Marvel Comics and they have had enough of the way the industry works. They get a lot of flak for being the cause of the comic market crash. That is a sign of the impact they made. DC and Marvel were scrambling to...

If you didn’t already know it, Jeremy Kyle is a horrible man. If you weren’t sure, there’s a two part documentary on All4 called Jeremy Kyle Show: Death on Daytime that details this and makes it abundantly clear that the show he fronted for 14 years took a negative toll on many of the thousands of guests it ushered onto the stage only to bully, badger and beat them down. These were people that were almost always vulnerable and at the bottom end of the economic spectrum, and almost always had serious problems, often related to family, relationships, finance and drug and alcohol abuse. The show was canceled after one of his guests, Steve Dymond, took his own life days after filming an episode of the show.

Underscoring the robustness of a fast evolving Latin American TV market, U.K. production-distribution giant Fremantle and the Larraín brothers’ Fabula have in development a third season of gender abuse thriller “La Jauría” and second season of “Señorita 89.”
The moves comes as Fremantle is firing up both its premium scripted series and entertainment format business in Latin America, which is fast emerging as a key growth market for platforms and heavyweight independent production-distribution companies such as Fremantle.
Total Fremantle revenues from Latin America increased by 25% from 2019 to 2021 with production revenues in the region rising by nearly a third in the same period, said Jens Richter, Fremantle CEO, international.
Both series come from Lucía Puenzo, fast consolidating as one of the foremost showrunners in high-end Latin America drama. “La Jauría” season two was co-produced by Amazon which took rights to Latin America and Spain. It was sold to HBO Max for the U.

It was only a few days ago that audiences were last given a new documentary about Britney Spears, thanks to the continuation of the New York Times Presents series coverage of the pop star’s fraught situation. “Confronting Britney Spears” felt hastily put together in order to cut off this other feature, Netflix’s year-long expose of the pop star’s life, “Britney vs Spears.” Directed by Erin Lee Carr, whose previous work has included the “At the Heart of Gold,” about the USA Gymnastics sex assault scandal, “Britney vs Spears” attempts to remind of us of who Spears was before the conservatorship that kept her confined, and how our own desire to consume her ended up doing just as much damage.
Audiences who are expecting a shocking, lurid expose about Spears’ trauma won’t find one here. At 93 minutes, “Britney vs Spears” takes its time in getting to where we are today,...

Chick Vennera, a voice actor in numerous Warner Bros. animated projects like “Animaniacs” and “Batman: the Animated Series,” and actor in “Thank God It’s Friday” and “The Golden Girls,” died Wednesday in Burbank, Calif. He was 74.
His daughter Nicky Vennera told several media outlets he died of lung cancer.
Former castmate John Mariano posted the news on Facebook, writing, “We worked together on ‘Steven Spielberg’s Animaniacs.’ We were ”The Goodfeathers.’ He’s an amazing talent, but more so, an amazing person. I can go on, but I think you all get what I’m trying to say. Gentle rest grant unto thee, Chick.”
Following a series of small roles on television, Vennera landed the part of Marv Gomez in 1978’s “Thank God It’s Friday” where he performed a now iconic scene in which he danced atop cars outside a disco. He went on to work in over 50 films, including “Milagro Beanfield War” and “Yanks.

“Never!” is the quick response Emmy winner Carson Daly has when asked if he predicted his hosting gig on “The Voice” would last for 20 seasons. “It was quite the opposite. People thought we were crazy. If you recall the landscape in television at that time, ‘American Idol,’ by all accounts, was kind of rounding third heading for home after their monumental success. Yet there still seemed to be an appetite for singing competitions because ‘X-Factor’ was coming over from Europe. When we got this format from Holland, we had a very small window of time to get it on NBC before ‘X-Factor.’ We never thought we’d last, we barely thought we would survive.” Watch the exclusive video interview with Daly above.

“The Masked Singer” has been host to a lot of professional singer contestants throughout its five-season run, and judges Nicole Scherzinger and Jenny McCarthy think yet another has joined the show: Demi Lovato.
In TheWrap’s exclusive clip from Wednesday’s episode of the Fox singing competition, Scherzinger gives her theory about the identity of the Black Swan contestant, which McCarthy ends up agreeing with.
“We saw the scale of justice, right? So I’m thinking, Ok, could it be a judge?” Scherzinger says in the video, which you can view above. “I was getting a lot of ‘X-Factor’ vibes. Could have been a judge on the ‘X-Factor,’ like Demi Lovato with those vocals.”
Hey, if anyone on “The Masked Singer” panel is going to correctly guess that a competitor is actually a former “The X-Factor” judge, it’s probably going to be Scherzinger, a former “The X-Factor” judge.

Welcome to this week’s Impact Wrestling review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have…my Nana just died. She had cancer and just died this afternoon of it. She was a tough ol broad. She could be real rough around the edges and soft to the touch at the same time. Nana had a hard life and had to raise six kids in the middle of the 20th century. She wasn’t perfect and she wasn’t always nice, but she cared deep down and showed it when it mattered most. She lost her first born (my uncle) a decade or so ago and her fifth born (my Mom) within the past several years. I’m gonna miss her. Nana, I love you. Okay, we’ve got a big main event with Sami Callihan fighting Trey Miguel, so don’t touch my tush.

While it doesn’t quite stack up to its DC counterpart, the Marvel Animated Universe stretched through the ’90s and had some real bangers. Much like the modern cinematic universe, various cartoons were connected as one giant piece of continuity. X-Men and Spider-Man were the biggest hits while Iron Man, Fantastic Four, and others had less of an impact. The closest thing they had to a climactic culmination was the Secret Wars adaptation near the end of Spider-Man’s final season. After that, they kind of limped into oblivion with a few shows that didn’t catch on.
That leads to the biggest difference between the Marvel Animated Universe and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When it came to the latter, the real beginning came from the Avengers brand name. Nick Fury appearing at the end of Iron Man to discuss the Avengers Initiative was a sign of what these movies...

This article contains WandaVision spoilers.
Since his creation by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee in the mid-60s, Quicksilver has been a fairly important part of the Marvel Universe. The mutant speedster started as a member of Magneto’s Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, then became one of the earliest members of the Avengers. Over the decades, he’s married into the Inhumans, joined various X-teams, been a mentor to the Avengers Academy, and had his parentage retconned several times over.
He’s never been the most popular character in the Marvel Universe, but due to some legal complications, he became the focal point between two rival movie studios. It’s those complications that make his appearance in the fifth episode of WandaVision such a huge deal.
But let’s get to where this all started. As hard as it may be to believe now, b ack in the ‘90s, Marvel Comics...

My tour of books I-haven’t-been-picking-up-but-really-meant-to brings me to the issue I am currently holding in my (virtual) hands, Hellions #9. Being honest, there’s not been much about the more recent X-books that’s particularly appealed to me of late. I’ve been reading X-Men since the late 1970’s, and they do go through peaks and troughs, and sometimes it is the ‘add on’ books that shone brightest for a time. In the past New Mutants and X-Factor did that, and I’m wondering if Hellions can do the same. The original Hellions of course were the White (Emma Frost) Queen’s Hellfire Club answer to Professor X’s New Mutants. I enjoyed them at their peak, but most of them are now in Comic Book Heaven. So, who are the new Hellions?

Discounting Deadpool 2‘s X-Force, which was played entirely for laughs, with the exception of the spinoffs, Fox’s X-Men franchise focused almost entirely on the core team for two decades until the series reached a disappointing conclusion when The New Mutants finally hit theaters this summer and landed with a thud.
The various sequels and reboots all centered on Charles Xavier’s group of gifted youngsters, who always tended to battle against either an opposing faction recruited by Magneto or shady government forces looking to eradicate or weaponize them. CBS is in advanced discussions with Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Simon Cowell to produce the next big music competition series, Variety has confirmed.
The show will be called “50 States to Stardom” and will mix a music competition with a unique documentary format in order to discover America’s next greatest talent. The docuseries will profile all 50 states in the U.S. and narrow down one talented musician from each one. The process will culminate in a showcase competition ending in the determination of the most talented musician in the country.
There will be a panel of carefully selected judges, but America will also have the chance to vote for who they think should be America’s next star. The docuseries will capture each contestant’s journey — both in the competition and outside of it — for a show that is both cinematic and realistic.
