According to singer Luiz Caldas, the series ignited Axé Music as a nationwide hit. He wrote the main title theme specifically for the series.
Even with the source novel being notably thick, Aguinaldo Silva still had to expand a lot on the supporting characters to develop the story. He also had to create new characters. Thus, this adaptation is far less faithful to the novel than Tieta of Agreste (1996).

Model and actress Isadora Ribeiro's first appearance on a famous Globo TV opening sequence. She recalls walking around on set naked for 30 minutes before filming, as to get used to the crew. Ribeiro is perhaps better known for appearing on the opening of Fantastic (1973). Both sequences were conceived by Hans Donner.
