Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence gets down as a desperate woman looking to sell her body for a new car in the latest comedy from “Good Boys” director Gene Stupnitsky.

On the brink of losing her childhood home, Maddie (Lawrence) discovers an intriguing job listing: wealthy helicopter parents looking for someone to “date” their introverted 19-year-old son, Percy (Feldman), before he leaves for college. Joe Lycett may insist that he’s not a political comedian, but the stand-up has often used his work to make a political statement.
While the comedian is best known for his large-scale, high-profile routines (such as changing his name to Hugo Boss), as seen on his consumer affairs programme Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back, he has also played tricks within in the world of politics.
From panicking parliament with his own fake Sue Gray report to claiming to be “very right wing” on Laura Kuenssburg’s new politics show, here are some of Lycett’s biggest political pranks.

Sumi Choi’s origin story starts quietly. “I could barely speak when I was four years old,” she says. “But I did sing, and I would sing this very sad song. I was a sad kid.” There’s a pleasant candor that permeates a conversation with Choi, 34, and the rest of the Busan, South Korea-based quartet Say Sue Me. Even across Zoom, and with assistance from an interpreter, it’s evident that the cozy surf rock that has brought them an international audience is rooted in their appealing, easygoing attitudes.

Every great poem has to end at some point, and so does Dickinson: The upcoming third season of the Apple TV+ literary comedy will be its last, TVLine has learned.

After working as a writer for nearly two decades across projects like Please Like Me, Ready For This, Dance Academy, Molly and The Secret Life of Us, Liz Doran had been curious about producing.
Yet she regards her first producing credit, Sbs short-form drama The Tailings, as almost accidental.
Set in Tasmania, the 6 x 10 minute series, which premiered on Sbs On Demand this weekend, follows a troubled teen, Jas (Tegan Stimson), who launches an investigation into her dad’s death. Her accusations put her into conflict with her new teacher Ruby (Mabel Li), who is trying to make an impression during her first posting.
The script is penned by first-time writer Caitlin Richardson, from Tasmania, to whom Doran was script editor and mentor from the project’s early stages.
During that early development, Doran and then Sbs head of scripted drama Sue Masters struck up a conversation about who should produce the project.

Would you pay $30 to see Mulan? Let’s examine what Disney’s newest gamble could mean for the state of movies and theaters going forward.
“But Disney’s decision to release its long-delayed live action remake of Mulan in September for a fee of $29.99 isn’t just a contingency plan necessitated by the pandemic. The price tag represents years of research by film studios into what fans would be willing to pay to see theatrical releases early, at home — something that admittedly sounds a little less enticing when you have been trapped in your living room for the past six months.”

"There is a line in The Witcher where a man offers Geralt of Rivia a life debt and I found myself laughing out loud because giving someone who will most definitely out-live you a life debt seems like a sweet gesture but one that would almost be a burden to them. Let me elaborate: It’s like Chewbacca and Han Solo."

Stargirls, the careers of Robert Downey Jr. and Will Smith, flying taxis, and more in today's Link Tank!
There are two upcoming Stargirls in the streaming world at the moment, one from Disney+ and one from DC Universe.
"It’s a tale of two Stargirls in this peek TV world with new streaming titles from both DC Universe and Disney of the same name. It’s confusing, but one you dig in, the two properties could not be more different and only one of them has us actually excited. First we’ll go with the less exciting Stargirl, the one from Disney+. I guess it’s called Stargirl because Manic Pixie Dream Stargirl wouldn’t fit well in a tweet."

The Academy Awards are looking to have a bright future internationally as its film selections expands beyond the United States.
"In the 90-year history of the Academy Awards, 554 movies have been nominated for Best Picture. Among that number have been timeless classics and a whole lot of best-forgotten duds. What's truly incredible, though, is that only 11 foreign-language movies have even been nominated to compete for Best Picture since 1929 — and none have ever won."

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, BoJack Horseman, The Expanse, and more in today's daily Link Tank!
Here are the moments from the original Star Wars trilogy that you should revisit before The Rise of Skywalker.

Scientists have discovered a massive black hole within the local universe.
"In a galaxy 740 million light-years away, there lies a monster. The galaxy, Holm 15A, is one of several that make up the Abell 85 galaxy cluster. It is the brightest galaxy in Abell 85, and one of the brightest in our corner of the universe. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, Billy Dee Williams, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, and more in today's daily Link Tank!
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will further reveal the backstory of John Boyega's Finn.
Rey’s origins might be the biggest mystery in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, but Finn is almost as much of a blank slate. When we first met John Boyega’s character in The Force Awakens he was “Fn-2187,” a stormtrooper on the run from the First Order, and that’s pretty much all we ever learned about him. Now, it turns out Episode IX will fill in the blanks of Finn’s traumatic past, though fans of the video game Star Wars: Battlefront II may already know most of the sordid details.

Painted Dreams premiered October 20, 1930.80 Years Ago Today: The Soap Opera Was Born
By Rob Wargo
On October 20, 1930, the soap opera was born, with the debut of the first episode of Irna Phillips’ Painted Dreams. Although the series had a relatively brief network run, compared to Ms. Phillips’ other triumphs, it is widely recognized by broadcast historians as the first very soap opera.
One day in 1930, schoolteacher Irna Phillips visited Chicago’s Wgn looking for work. Although initially hired as an actress, her interests soon turned to writing, and she created the series Sue and Irene in which she and Ireene Wicker (best known as radio’s “Singing Lady”) provided all of the voices, with Irna playing “Sue” and Ireene playing “Irene.” Scheduled during the daytime, Sue and Irene was sponsored by Lever Brothers’ detergent “Super Suds.” The dialogue was conversational in tone, rather than full-out acting,...

The Middle celebrated its 200th episode Tuesday by commemorating a much smaller milestone achieved by the town that Frankie & Co. call home.

Early on in “The 200th,” Nancy and Ron Donahue dropped by the Hecks to inform them that Orson had just been named one of the top 200 cities in Indiana, coming in at… No. 200. To mark the occasion, the town’s upcoming cow rededication ceremony — thrown by none other than Frankie’s former boss Mr. Ehlert — would double as a celebration of Orson’s having made the list.

Jacques Doillon’s most recent film—known in English, if it is known at all, as either The Three-Way Wedding or In the Four Winds—has never, to my knowledge, been shown in the States since its release in France in the spring of 2010. According to Jordan Montzer in Variety, Doillon’s “oeuvre reaches new heights of faux-kinky gobbledygook in [this] low-budget chamber piece.... With a pitch that could have provoked untold laughter in the hands of a Larry David, pic somberly reveals the ego-tripping, backstabbing and, well, butt-slapping that occurs when two thesps spend a day at the country home of a misanthropic playwright. What ensues is far from enjoyable, and adequate perfs won’t carry Doillon’s pretentious banter further than French ears.”
That last part may have proved to be right, but I’ve always loved the highly unusual and borderline grotesque poster for the film. I had...
