In Halloween 4 we learned that Jamie is Laurie Strode's daughter and that Laurie (and the father) had died in a car crash some time prior. So Jamie is not Laurie's niece, but she is the niece of Michael Myers.
Likely because they needed someone older to portray Jamie as an adult, due to her just having a child. Also, because she was killed off almost immediately, it's likely Harris wasn't interested or wasn't asked to return.
Six years ago, Michael Myers terrorized the town of Haddonfield, Illinois before he and his eight-year-old niece Jamie Lloyd (Danielle Harris) disappeared. It's revealed that Jamie was kidnapped by a bunch of evil druids, led by The Man in Black (Mitchell Ryan), who protect Michael. Now, six years later, 15-year-old Jamie (J.C. Brandy) has escaped after giving birth to a son. She runs to Haddonfield to get Dr. Sam Loomis (Donald Pleasence) to help her. Meanwhile, the Strodes—father John (Bradford English), mother Debra (Kim Darby), son Tim (Keith Bogart), daughter Tara (Marianne Hagan), and Tara's son Danny (Devin Gardner)—are living in the Myers house and are being stalked by Myers (George P. Wilbur). It's revealed that the Curse of Thorn makes Michael kill his family, and it's up to Dr Loomis and Tommy Doyle (Paul Rudd), the boy that Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) was babysitting the Halloween night when Michael made his first appearance, to stop them all and save Jamie's son.
Halloween 6 is the fifth movie in the Halloween storyline, following Halloween (1978) (1978), Halloween II (1981) (1981), Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers (1988) (1988), and Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989) (1989), and followed by (1998), and Halloween: Resurrection (2002) (2002). (Note that Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) (1982) is not a part of the series.) The screenplay was written by Daniel Farrands.
After slashing Dr Loomis and killing a policeman, Michael goes looking for Jamie who has climbed into a laundry chute in an attempt to hide. When Michael makes a stab for her, Jamie loses her handhold and tumbles to the bottom of the chute, so Michael goes downstairs to get her. Not able to fit inside the chute, Michael repeatedly stabs at it, but Jamie manages to climb back to the top and escape into the candlelit attic where she finds the bodies of Max, Mike, and Rachel. With nowhere else to run as Michael climbs the steps into the attic, Jamie lays down in a large basket that Michael has been using for a bed. When Michael raises his knife to stab her, Jamie says, "Uncle...boogyman" and Michael stops. Jamie asks to see his face, so Michael takes off his mask. When Jamie reaches up to touch his face, however, he becomes enraged and replaces the mask. Meanwhile, Jamie runs down the attic stairs, right into the arms of Dr Loomis, bloody but alive. Loomis grabs Jamie and uses her to taunt Michael, who slowly advances on them. Suddenly, a large metal net falls on Michael, capturing him. Loomis shoots him with four tranquilizer darts and beats him with a board until Michael is knocked out. Loomis then collapses on top of him. The scene shifts to the Haddonfield Police Department where Michael is locked and chained in a cell. Jamie is assured by the police that Michael will be placed in a maximum security facility where he will stay till he dies. "He'll never die," Jamie replies. She is then escorted out to a police car waiting to take her back to the clinic. At a side door, the man in black with the steel-tipped boots can be seen entering the station. Suddenly, an explosion and several gunshots rock building. Jamie is told to stay in the car while the policeman goes inside to help. In the final scene, Jamie walks alone through the station, past the bodies of dead officers, until she reaches Michael's cell, only to discover it empty. "No!" she screams. "No!"
In the first movie, the year is 1963 and Michael is six when he kills his sister. When Michael returns to Haddonfield, 15 years have passed, so Michael is 21 in Halloween. H2 occurs the same night as Halloween, so Michael would still be 21. H4 occurs 10 years later, so Michael would be 31, and H5 occurs one year after H4, so Michael would be 32. The Curse of Michael Myers takes place six years after the events of H5, so Myers is now 38.
Thorn is an ancient Druid symbol that represents a demon who spread sickness and caused destruction. To prevent this, a child from each tribe was chosen to inherit the Curse of Thorn to offer a blood sacrifice of its next of kin on the night of Samhain (Halloween). When the corresponding Thorn constellation appears, Michael appears. The curse explains why Michael is out to kill his family and also accounts for his superhuman abilities.
To a large extent, yes at least in the continuity of the fourth through sixth movies, whereas the next movie, Halloween H20, retcons these movies out of continuity. Michael Myers is the victim of a supernatural curse placed on him when he is a child that drives him to kill in order to provide sacrifices for a demon called Thorn. This is why he does what he does and why he's so strong and immortal. Dr. Wynn ("Wynn" being a Celtic term for a pagan priest/disciple) is the head of a cult that resided at Smith's Grove Sanitarium (where Michael was committed to after killing Judith) that cursed Michael causing him to kill his family as blood sacrifices. The cult being established explains the mystery of how Michael Myers can drive in the original Halloween since presumably Wynn or one of his disciples taught him. (In one scene in the original Halloween, Loomis speculates to Wynn that someone at the mental asylum has been giving Michael driving lessons.) It also suggests a tentative link with Halloween III which also features a murderous pagan cultist.
Tommy breaks Kara out of the padded cell where she is being held in the maximum security ward, and they run down the corridor with Michael following not far behind. Tommy finds a gun and shoots Michael in the shoulder, which slows him down for a moment. They wind up in the corridor outside a surgical suite where Dr Wynn and some other cult members are holding Danny and baby Steven. Michael catches up, but Tommy and Kara hide, and he walks right by, stopping just long enough to pick up an autopsy knife. Michael enters the surgical suite and proceeds to kill the doctors and nurses. While Michael is so engaged, Kara grabs Danny and Tommy grabs the baby, and they race down the corridor looking for a way out of the sanitarium. Again, Michael catches up with them, so they hide in a laboratory containing preserved human fetuses and a chart of runes. While Kara, Danny, and the baby hide, Tommy lures Michael closer with the promise that the baby is his but injects him with several vials of some corrosive liquid, and Kara begins beating him with a lead pipe. Michael grabs Kara by the throat and begins choking her then turns his attention on Danny and Steven. Tommy sneaks up behind Michael and injects him with another hypodermic filled with the corrosive and then continues beating him with the pipe. Kara, Danny, and baby run for the elevator, which opens to reveal Dr. Loomis, who ushers everyone outside to a van. In the final scene, Tommy begs Dr Loomis to get in the van with them, but Loomis replies that he has "a little business to attend to." As Tommy drives away, the camera pans back into the lab where Michael's mask can be seen lying on the floor, but there's no sign of Michael. Suddenly, Dr Loomis' screams are heard.
Three main theories in this regard. Firstly that Dr. Loomis' screaming heard at the end is to be looked at as Michael killing him off-screen. The actor Donald Pleasance died shortly after the movie was filmed and originally ended with him alive. After re-shoots were done, the ending was displayed so that it indicated the demise of Loomis to close the book on the character in parallel to the actor's death. Secondly that what we see is actually Loomis killing Michael once and for all offscreen (the "work" he tells Tommy and the others he has to do). This would explain why we see Michael's mask lying on the floor at the end and why the Halloween 1-6 continuity ends here. Thirdly it has been suggested that when Loomis returns he finds that Michael has recovered and escaped, hence his screaming.
Even the theatrical version was cut in violent scenes before release in the US, to warrant an R rating. This version is the only officially released version in the world. The unrated version is only available as a bootleg in the US.
The US TV cut on the other hand is sort of a mixed version. It is based on the already cut theatrical version, but then the violent scenes and the sex scenes were additionally censored. Furthermore, there are some scenes here, that are found in the workprint, too—added to increase the runtime for the broadcast to be able to show more advertising, a typical approach in the US.
There are 3 different versions of the sixth installment of the series. Besides the theatrical version, there's also an unrated cut of the movie and the workprint. Like the workprint, the unrated theatrical cut was never officially licensed released and only published as a bootleg. Of course, this version does not reinvent the movie, and, except for one rather interesting extension at the end, the lengthened scenes of violence aren't really worth mentioning. For collectors and completists though, this version surely is interesting.
