The 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony won't air on HBO until May 30th, but the network has unveiled an extended trailer from the all-star event. The Vatican Exorcisms DVD...

Wes Anderson's "The Grand Budapest Hotel" won the Original Screenplay honor at the recently concluded Writers Guild Awards while Morten Tyldum's "The Imitation Game" took home the Adapted Screenplay trophy. "The Internet's Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swarts" written by Brian Knappenberger won Documentary Screenplay award. The film is not nominated for an Academy award.

In TV land, HBO's "True Detective" won the Drama Series award and FX's "Louie" received the Comedy Series trophy.

Old monsters or new? Dracula or Freddy Kruger? The Bride of Frankenstein or the Bride of Chucky? How do you like your monsters…Classic or neo-nasty contemporary?

Most people like a good horror film around Halloween. It’s the time of year for a good scare. But what kind of scare do you want…classic or modern? Do you prefer the gothic grand guignol of yesteryear or the deranged demons of today? Who’s cooler and creepier?

Just for clarity’s sake, we’ll draw the old vs. new line at 1978, with John Carpenter’s excellent Halloween being the start of the modern age of Horror. Everything before that (The B&W Universal monster films, the Hammer Studios films with Cushing and Lee, the Poe/Hawthorn adaptations with Vincent Price, etc.) are classic horror flicks.

Let’s start with the names of the monsters. In this category, you have to go with old Hollywood.

The 56th Grammy Awards are in the books and the special moments created throughout the show will surely last for years to come. The performances shined brighter than any award could, with some bringing viewers to tears.

You want celebrity guests? Rock and Shock's got 'em in spades. And some really unique convention celeb guests at that. Like Scott Wilson ("The Walking Dead"), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2: Judgment Day, "The X-Files"), Sharknado director Anthony C. CBS Home Entertainment this week released seven Best of samplers from their library after letting the fans pick which episodes should be included. On Monday and Tuesday we looked at the six sitcoms but since the last one was a one-hour action show, we set that one aside.

Since its debut in 1985, MacGyver has been a fondly recalled series for both its inventiveness and for its appealing lead acting, Richard Dean Anderson. What’s interesting is that a cocreator for this was Henry Winkler who, 20 years earlier, became a smash success on Happy Days, also a part of the set. The show was popular enough to make through the 1991-1992 season and the lead’s ability to take common place elements to get out of tricky situations was popular enough to be parodied elsewhere.

The premise had Anderson play Angus MacGyver a secret agent, employed by the Phoenix Foundation in Los Angeles.

This week’s episode of Torchwood: Miracle Day was good for one thing: reminding me how much I love John de Lancie: I remember thinking, watching him as Q on Star Trek: The Next Generation, that there’s no way those black eyes of his could be real: But I met him at a convention once, and danged if those big luminous peepers aren’t his after all: Stupid pre-Internet cult shows: not enough stuff online. Comic-Con International has released the full schedule for Sunday July 24th for San Diego Comic-Con 2011. This is the final day of the convention. Sunday is known as Kids day and is usually the slowest of all the days, there are a few surprises though. In all my years of going to Comic-Con I've never been to a panel in Hal H. Usually nothing is happening in Hall H on Sunday, this year there are a few TV programs going on in Hall H such a as Glee, Supernatural, Doctor Who, The Cleveland Show, Sons of Anarchy, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and this year Buffy the Musical will be in the great Hall as well. I've never been to the Buffy Musical event, and I think I finally want to go this year. A couple of other things worth noting are a one on one panel with Nathan Fillion, and Max Brooks talks about zombies.

The Usual Suspects Review

A non-linear mystery film whose parts end up equaling the whole they create. The Usual Suspects is a dissimilar crime film that is equal parts thriller and action film. Director Bryan Singer builds a story in the forefront of the film while telling what led to its eventuality in a series of flashbacks. The viewer finds out quickly that the story began with a unlitigious police lineup, an incident from which the film’s title is derived as well.

I had the supreme honor this weekend to have had a place secured on the Red Carpet for the opening of Texas Frightmare Weekend 2011.  The opportunity to meet and greet some of the biggest names in cinema and horror was amazing as the photos below will show.

He Said (Aaron Ruffcorn) vs. He Said (Nick Allen)

This new edition of “He Said – He Said” introduces Tsr writer Aaron Ruffcorn to our special little gamut. The topic for this round, as you’ve noticed, is Sucker Punch. Aaron thought very highly of the movie, and his opponent, Nick Allen, did not. Thus, in honor of that scene in the film where the schoolgirl with the sword fights against that massive samurai robot thing, it’s time for another valiant episode of “He Said – He Said.” As always, plot spoilers are fair game, so you’re advised to see the film before reading on.

With awards season is underway comes the 38th Annual Annie Award nominations, which recognize the year’s best work in animation. Since the creation of the animation-specific Oscar category in 2001, the Annies have predicted the Academy Award winner every year except 2006 and 2008.

Unfortunately, the award has been tainted by controversy after CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg reportedly bought each DreamWorks Animation employee a membership in the International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood, skewing the voting in the studio’s favor. This likely resulted in a surprise sweep by DreamWorks Animations’ Kung Fu Panda at the Annies in 2008-2009 over Pixar’s eventual Oscar winner, Wall-e.

Disney Studios has since pulled its official support of the event and submissions for the awards, though individual animators are able to submit their films themselves. As a result, the rules were changed for individual achievement categories, but Disney sought a neutral committee of animators from every studio to propose and approve guidelines.

The International Animated Film Society, Asifa-Hollywood, announced nominations today for the 38th Annual Annie Awards™ recognizing the year’s best in the field of animation including best animated feature, television production, commercials, short subjects, video games and outstanding individual achievements.

Two years ago, Kung-Fu Panda swept the awards over Wall-e pushing Disney and Pixar to withdraw from the organization and making everyone else wonder if there is any point in caring anymore about the ceremony. Toy Story 3 and Tangled did get Best Picture nominations, but DreamWorks (who pretty much run the show) lead the nominees.

According to /film, Disney’s reason for withdrawing was rooted in the organization’s very loose membership requirements and the fact that DreamWorks seemed actively working to stack the deck in the studio’s favour. Disney-Pixar president Ed Catmull said earlier this year,

The full list of nominations for the 38th Annie Awards were announced today with Dreamworks’s How to Train your Dragon gathering up the majority of nominations including Best Feature, Animation, Character Design and Voice Work for Gerard Butler and Jay Baruchel, as well as Directing nominations for Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois.

Pixar’s Up took home the Best Animated Feature earlier this year at the 2009 awards and when the awards are announced next February Lee Unkrich and his team are up from a number of awards, along with Disney’s Tangled, but the recent decision of Disney to withdraw support for the awards may go some way to explaining the relatively few number of nods.

It has been a great year for animation as the films on the list below attest, and it’s nice to see Sylvain Chomet’s enchanting film The Illusionist scoring a point against the domination of CG here.

The month of December, January, and February pretty much means near-daily updates of award nominations and selections. The latest is for the 38th Annual Annie Awards, awarding excellence in the animation area. Leading the pack is How To Train Your Dragon, a film I recently re-watched and loved just as much as in the theater. Disney has tough competition in the form of itself this year, as “Tangled” and “Toy Story 3″ will compete against one another, along with a host of other fantastic animated films, at the 38th Annual Annie Awards.

The Annie Awards will be a battleground for the upcoming Oscar animation awards. This year, only three animated films will be nominated. Why? Because the rules that govern the Oscars are laughably outmoded. But that’s beside the point.

Fact is, the Annie Awards deserve attention amongst the many other awards shows because so many great animated films were released in 2010, arguably more than traditional films. “Tangled,” “Toy Story 3,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” “Despicable Me” and “The Illusionist” will jostle for the Best Animated Feature award.

The International Animated Film Society Asifa-Hollywood has announced the nominees for the 38th Annual Annie Awards, and the DreamWorks feature How to Train Your Dragon leads the pack with more than ten nods. But there's a caveat; that and the full list of nominations after the break. This will be the first Annie Awards after Disney and Pixar withdrew from the organization [1] that organizes the awards. Toy Story 3 and Tangled did get Best Picture nominations, and Lee Unkrich was nominated Best Director. But in the feature deaprtment this is DreamWorks' show, with a few nods toward the Warner Bros. film Legend of the Guardians and a scant few other features such as The Illusionist. Disney's reason for withdrawing was rooted in the organization's very loose membership requirements (read: almost non-existent requirements, until recently) and the fact that DreamWorks seemed actively working to stack the deck in the studio's favor.

How To Train Your Dragon has dominated the nominations for the Annie Awards awarded by the International Animation Society.

It will compete for the top category against The Illusionist, Despicable Me, Tangled and Toy Story 3. It is surprising that Tangled and Toy Story were nominated since they withdrew from the International Animation Society.

With the biggest, greatest, most over the top action film of all time coming out on 19th August in the form of The Expendables (our review here), HeyUGuys is bringing you the ultimate run down of the kill count that these historic action actors have each tallied up.

Warner Bros. has recently released a bunch of new artwork for three of its upcoming movies. First up, a terrifying new teaser poster for director Samuel Bayer's A Nightmare on Elm Street reboot. Jackie Earle Hayley steps into the role of the nightmare killer, Freddy Krueger, played by Robert Englund in horror master Wes Craven's 1984 original and in the seven subsequent sequels. A Nightmare on Elm Street opens April 30th.

Next up, a new international poster for another remake of an '80s classic, Louis Leterrier's Clash of the Titans. Loosely based on Greek mythology, Clash of the Titans stars Sam Worthington as Perseus, Liam Neeson as Zeus, Ralph Fiennes as Hades, Mads Mikkelsen as Draco, and Alexa Davalos as Andromeda. Clash of the Titans opens April 2nd in 2-D and 3-D.

Analysis: Scoring rave reviews in Toronto, the $7 million latest effort of Rodrigo Garcia ("Nine Lives," "Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her") once again shows off his skill at weaving multiple narratives together in clever and unexpected ways. At its heart it's an emotional family drama, but Garcia excels with his female characters which makes the involvement of Naomi Watts, Kerry Washington and especially Annette Benning thrilling.

The few criticisms levelled at the film were toward some pacing and credibility issues in the last act, but otherwise praised it for not...

The new teaser trailer for "Nightmare on Elm Street" has just been released, and it shows Jackie Earle Haley in the role of our favorite boogeyman, Freddy Krueger.

This remake's from producer Michael Bay, so chances are, the film will be very sleek with not a whole lot of character or plot development.

But Haley is a good actor, so I'm looking forward to seeing this film, just to see how he'll adapt the role that Robert Englund made famous in the 80s. The reboot arrives in theaters April 30, 2010.

Yesterday we told you that the first season of the classic “Trek” has arrived on Blu-ray, and now we’re back to report that all six of the “first generation” films have also made their way to HD. Remastered in high-def and sporting new audio tracks, the collection presents the “Star Trek” films as they have never been seen before.

Two different packages have been assembled, one collecting all six films and another collecting the first three. Each of the films carries over the special features from previous releases, but more importantly delivers nearly three hours of brand new bonus content specially recorded in high-def (and 14 hours total including the standard-def extra).

June is going to be a busy month for DVD releases. We're going to get supernatural horrors, Italian shockers, and Sci-Fi Channel schlockers; not to mention one hell of an Asylum mocker. Here's a taste of things to come.

What better place to begin than with Lionsgate's June 16th release of Richard Friedman's Born. Starring Joan Severence, Denise Crosby, and Kane Hodder, it's another one of those demon baby in the womb horror flicks. This time out a virginal 21-year old (Alison Brie) wakes up impregnated by a demon (Hodder, of course); the demonic baby eventually overtakes her mind and sends her on a killing spree. I've come across some reviews of Born online, and let's just say most would have preferred this film to be retitled Abort. Only the best from Lionsgate.

Anyone that has read this site for a long time knows I am a pretty big fan of the original "Star Trek" universe. I'm talking Captain Kirk, Spock, Bones, Scotty and the gang. I have reviewed all six of the last Original Series DVD releases as well as the DVD releases of Star Trek: First Contact, Generations, Insurrection, Nemesis and all four seasons of "Enterprise". Strangely enough I don't consider myself a Trekkie since I love the show, but don't have a very deep knowledge of the universe, and that's an understatement. My favorite movies from the franchise are Wrath of Khan and Voyage Home and I have no idea when was the last time I saw the original Motion Picture, Search for Spock, The Final Frontier or The Undiscovered Country. However, that will all change come May 12 as Paramount will release all six of the original Star Trek films...

The idea for this article came out of how many films I have been watching lately in an effort to up my film IQ. I am not watching these films to be any kind of film historian, but to just have an overall knowledge of movies. It is also a nice way to make up for how many bad films I have to watch. Man, I really dig this show. Yeah, it takes me between six and nine hours to get there and back, which means I really need to start going down a day early, but it’s worth it to hang out at one of the best-run and most well-attended conventions on the East Coast.

Monster Mania 11 went down the weekend of August 22nd-24th, and featured one of the most eclectic guest lineups yet; both Corey Feldman and Corey Haim were in attendance (though not in the same room), as were Jamison Newlander (aka the Alan Frog), Jake Busey (The Firghteners, Starship Troopers), Jeffrey Combs, Tyler Mane (the new Michael Myers), Derek Mears (the new Jason Voorhees) and of course the one and only Freddy Krueger, Robert Englund!
