This is definitely NOT a movie to be watching with young kids (or even some teens) in the room!! There is plenty of violence, and just as many hot steamy sex scenes (that by-the-way DO show J-Wa(rd)'s derriere--WOO HOO!!).
Maybe I am just prejudiced because I had a thing for Beans Baxter (Jonathan Ward) while I was in/graduating high school, but I definitely don't think this movie deserves the awful ratings all of the other websites gave it. There aren't (m)any 'special effects' according to todays standards, but that just makes the story line all the more believable. On a scale of 1-5, I don't think this is a 5 star movie, and it is far from being up at the top with my all-time favorites, but I actually think it deserves close to 4 stars since it is about things that do happen every day: black market babies, prostitutes being taken advantage of since they are seen as close to the lowest form of human being there is by many people, infidelity, and the taboo multiple partner at the same time sessions as well as orgies that truly do happen everywhere under many people's noses.
The movie is basically about the black market baby trade, but actually doesn't mention a whole lot about it--the main focus is a love story (similar to Pretty Woman, but it isn't a rich well-to-do guy doing the 'rescuing') and the things that had to be done to get out of a bad 'career'.
This movie was released in 1998 (according to the movie slipcover, although I have noticed some people listing it as 1994), which is quite awhile after The Adventures of Beans Baxter, but Jonathan Ward sure has aged well! I think he's an awesome actor, too, but he seems to have dropped off the face of Hollywood. As far as I have been able to find, he has only had very small parts in mainly tv shows and made for tv movies, which don't give him a chance to show off his acting capacity.
