Sódóma Reykjavík has become my all time favorite Icelandic movie. It may sound weird but somehow in its absurdity this movie strikes me as being real. Of course the story is ridicilous but the awkward conversations and the very imperfect characters do remind me of real people as opposed to the Hollywood heroes that always know the right things to say and do. It is a tribute to a whole generation of Icelanders and the attitudes towards life that are held by that generation. And of course this is a comedy and as such the funniest I've seen.
I do think that this movie is "too Icelandic" to be fully apreciated by foreigners, it is one made for the people of Iceland about the people of Iceland. If you are searching for the traditional "Icelandic tourist flick" where the magnificent Icelandic landscape is heavily used and the people are all like Björk and Sigur Rós, you should stay away from this picture because it is everything but that. It is one of the best descriptions of the people of Iceland I've seen though.
The english translation on the DVD sucks.

The most brilliant Icelandic movie ever made!!! It is truly fascinating how the Icelanders have made such a complicated plot around something a simple as a retrieval of a TV-remote for your mother.
Sódóma Reykjavík, like it's called here in Iceland, is the best comedy ever made in Iceland. There is not a single person in the country who has not seen it because it's just that amazing. The humor might be slightly too Icelandic for some too follow but in a way that just makes it funnier.
I strongly suggest the usage of subtitles. The translation into English completely ruins the movie. Don't let this one slip past, especially not if you want to know how the people in Iceland are, or just too impress us when you visit ;)

Iceland has been making pretty good movies over the last couple of years. 101 Reykjavik, the Icelandic dream, and of course, Angels of the Universe...
But before that, all we really had was this... My favourite Icelandic movie!!! The dialog was both incredibly stupid and hilarious, yet somehow believable. I especially liked the three mobster wannabes: "Unnur... Unnur... mmm"
Well, I guess you have to be from Iceland to find it as funny as I did... Much of the dialog is almost impossible to translate.

This movie is one of Icelandics best movies and everybody that likes Icelandic movies or even those who like comedies should see this movie at once. The movie is about a boy (Axel) and his search for a remote control that his mother wants and she thinks that the boy has lost it. He meet a big gangster that is called Moli. Moli is having a problem making boose and is having trouble with three fellows that want to teach him a lesson. They three form together MI the Mafia of Iceland. They are very silly and clumsy persons. Than the movie is about this matter and everybody are trying to get something and stuff. Excellent movie and very much worth to see.
