Many people know stories of brothers Grimm or Andersen. But after seeing it, you will understand why Czechs love so much this genre - our fairy-tales are nice, clever and perhaps a little bit romantic. And classic Erben's story The Reason and the Fortune is absolutely well-known. Nesmrtelná teta (Immortal aunt) is one of the best czech fairy-tales after 1989. It has very moving and wise story, casting is wonderful (off course for Czech people)and the art direction beautiful, so beautiful it makes me always smile. It's a good flick and it could be better if someone else is the director. After all - it is only few czech movies with so high budget.
This is said to be the most expensive fairy tale film that was ever shot in the Czech Republic. I appreciate especially the beautiful setting of Vranov and Dyji /a gorgeous chateau standing on a steep rock/. Of course, Jirina Bohdalova as The Envy /Zavist in Czech/ has no doubt managed to present one of the best performances in her actress`s career. She is able to play in various dresses and masks, and she does that in a brilliant way. She has proved her unique position amongst other Czech actresses in this film.
