Exclusive: Amplify Pictures has hired former CAA, Quibi and Picturestart exec Luke Esselen to take on a senior role as the international studio pushes into scripted.
Esselen has been named Senior Scripted Executive, reporting into Amplify’s Amsterdam-based Chief Content Officer, Rachel Eggebeen. He will be based in L.A., where Amplify is based, and be responsible for a slate of scripted projects that have an emphasis on ongoing series and franchises.
Amplify is looking to recreate the indie financing model it uses for its unscripted shows, which include HBO’s doc series 100 Foot Wave and the Smriti Mundhra-directed docs-series Bollywood Dance U, for scripted programming and Deadline understands several unannounced projects with talent attached are on the slate.

Was The Rock not initially cast in Fast & Furious? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Did you ever wonder what Fast & Furious might’ve looked like without The Rock? Neither did we… until Vin Diesel dropped this wild nugget during a 2017 Facebook Q&a. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson wasn’t always meant to be the bulldozer of justice, Luke Hobbs. Nope, the role was written for Tommy Lee Jones! Diesel spilled the tea: “There was a girl named Jen (maybe Jan?) Kelly who said, ‘I would love to see you guys work together on-screen.’ So, we initially gave a role written for Tommy Lee Jones, but we gave it to Dwayne, and he shined in it.”
So, let’s rewind. Tommy Lee Jones, the action movie vet known for The Fugitive and Under Siege, was supposed to be the big bad in the Fast & Furious universe. Instead, they handed that part over to Johnson,...

The concept of the movie cameo no longer means what it used to. Nowadays, we have entire feature films serving as a cameo delivery system, where "cameos" aren't brief appearances by very recognizable figures, but are actually entire supporting roles. Thanks to the comic book movie and the output of Marvel Studios in particular, the cameo has since become far more than the Easter egg it used to be. In a cinematic landscape where what we now call cameos can range from teaser appearances of characters to be seen in a future film to big-name actors who were merely kept out of the marketing materials, is there any room for the classic-style cameo anymore?
Fortunately for us horror nerds, along comes "Terrifier 3" to answer that question with a resounding "Yes." The latest installment in the Art the Clown saga includes all manner of cameo appearances, ranging from some actors...

The thing about making a new Wallace & Gromit film is that it’s going to be compared to all the other films featuring the Northern inventor and his considerably brighter dog — a nearly unimprovable run of distinctly British delights. The good news is that this effort, featuring the return of villainous penguin Feathers McGraw from The Wrong Trousers, doesn’t let the side down, even if it doesn’t raise us to new heights either.
As we rejoin them, Wallace (voiced again to good effect by Ben Whitehead after the loss of Peter Sallis) has let his inventing run amok, outsourcing even dog-petting to one of his Rube Goldbergian devices. Gromit is fed up even before the overdue bills arrive, but Wallace has a plan: he will rent out his latest invention, a ‘smart gnome’ called Norbot (Reece Shearsmith), to pay the bills. Monster, by Naoki Urasawa, is certainly a landmark in the history of Seinen anime. One can argue there’s nothing else that has managed to surpass its intricate storytelling and psychological depth yet. Set against the dark backdrop of post-wwii Germany, the very well-entwined and torn themes of trauma, and horror make it a must-watch.

Yet this revolutionary series had quite an unexpected origin, which one could never expect. In a resurfaced interview, author Naoki Urasawa himself shed light on what exactly inspired him to come up with this all-time masterpiece. This revelation that he made in the past, will leave even the die-hard fans shocked.

A Tribute to Harrison Ford: One of America’s Most Beloved Actors Leading Star Wars and Indiana Jones
Harrison Ford has been well-known for his performances in his action-driven films such as playing Indiana Jones in the ‘Indiana Jones saga’ and Han Solo in the ‘Star Wars’ films. They have been two successful franchises that had given Harrison some other opportunities for other action roles. However, he also proved to be a wonderful actor by even starring in experimental sci-fi movies such as Ridley Scott’s 1982 sci-fi cult favorite ‘Blade Runner’ (1982). 1970s Harrison Ford was born on July 13th, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Ripon College in the state of Wisconsin. He also took some minor acting roles in film and TV. Despite the fact that he was trying to break into the entertainment industry, he was also a carpenter. Around the early 1970s, he landed a small part in George Lucas’ film ‘American Graffiti’ (1973). This was after the famous sci-fi director made his powerful debut film ‘Thx-1138,...

When Andrew Davis directed Chuck Norris in “Code of Silence” nearly 40 years ago, he established the template for the rest of his career: using the action genre to explore ideas he cared about.
In the case of “Code of Silence,” that meant a deep dive into Chicago racial tensions and the ethical complexities of police work. Davis’ skill at staging and shooting kinetic suspense grabbed audiences in that film and the terrific thrillers that followed, but what really separated him from his peers was the elegant integration of his own social conscience into the material. Whether the subject matter was the threat of nuclear proliferation in “The Package,” the CIA’s complicity in the international drug trade in “Above the Law” (Steven Seagal‘s first and easily best movie), or the moral and psychological cost of vengeance in “Collateral Damage,” Davis’ work has always been as thoughtful as it is dynamic.

Meet the new Matlock. CBS has reimagined the classic Andy Griffith series, with Kathy Bates stepping into the title role. In the new version of the show, she plays Madeline “Matty” Matlock, a grieving mother and lawyer who returns to work at a white-shoe law firm with ties to the pharmaceutical companies that manufactured the drugs that killed her daughter.
Bates is clearly the star of the show, but she’s just one part of the new Matlock cast. She’s joined by Beau Bridges, Jason Ritter, and Skye P. Marshall. With the show’s second episode airing Oct. 17 on CBS, let’s review who’s who in the Matlock reboot.

Terrifier 3 smashed box office expectations past weekend, a huge win for indie horror, fans of the Terrifier series, and, of course, everyone who has worked so hard over the last 10+ years to create the Terrifier films. I remember first interviewing Damien Leone when All Hallow's Eve was released, and it's been incredible to see the journey that he and Art the Clown have taken over the years.
Now that horror fans around the world have had a chance to see the film, I wanted to share my recent conversation with Lauren Lavera, who joined me as a special guest on our Corpse Club podcast. Lauren and her character, Sienna, have also had an incredible journey over the course of Terrifier 2 and 3, and we discuss her experience on set, the future of Terrifier, her martial arts background, fan interactions, favorite horror films, and more!

Not to burst anyone's bubbles here, but acting is a job like any other -- people get into this profession because they (hopefully) have the talent and the ability, sure, but they also like to get paid. Who knew! It's easy to buy into the PR hype and convince ourselves that every A-lister who joins a Star War or superhero movie is in it for nothing more than the love of the game. That's rarely the case, of course, no matter how earnest and sincere Aubrey Plaza might sound about playing an unhinged witch on "Agatha All Along." After all, even the nerdiest lore in the world can't really hold a candle to the paychecks that come with all those zeroes attached to 'em.

It can’t be denied that as far as the old-time action heroes go, Steven Seagal doesn’t get much respect these days. A whole lot has been written about Steven Seagal’s behaviour off-screen (much of it by us), and I’m not going to rehash it all here, but suffice it to say there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of goodwill left over for the former ponytailed action hero.
While many would say he’s become a parody of himself in recent years, one shouldn’t forget that, at the start of his career, Seagal was ultra-popular. His Aikido moves, plus his tall, almost lanky figure and quiet demeanour made him unique among action heroes of the day. And, if you look at his filmography, his first five movies are really good as far as action flicks of the era go. Everything else? Well, not so much,...

Some of the best episodes of Seinfeld were based on real stories from the writers’ personal lives, be it an embarrassing dating anecdote or a kooky holiday invented by an alcoholic father. But the show occasionally took inspiration from real-world events, too. Some examples of this trend are more obvious, like the time Kramer fled from the cops with an accused murderer in a white Ford Bronco.
But other allusions to news stories were more subtle and easier to miss, especially now that three whole decades have passed. So, with the help of the hosts of The Place to Be: A Seinfeld Podcast, here are some of the Seinfeld storylines that you may not have known were ripped from the headlines, such as…

Tommy Lee Jones could give some of the great grumps of Hollywood a run for their money. The most notable example of his crotchetiness comes from the now-infamous story of when he starred alongside Jim Carrey in 1995's "Batman Forever" and reportedly told the legendary trickster during a chance meeting prior to filming, "I cannot sanction your buffoonery." Carrey has recounted Jones' hatred for him several times, and none of them cast the latter in all that flattering a light.
In fairness, at the time the actor was coming off the success of his 1994 Oscar win for "The Fugitive," and wasn't given much choice when it came to playing Harvey Dent/Two Face in "Batman Forever." It seems this combination of factors, along with his visceral disdain for Carrey's energetic antics, made Jones a bit of a stick in the mud during filming. Tommy Lee Jones is known to audiences for his authoritative roles in movies during the 1990s. The actor later gained commercial success and fame with his role in the Men in Black franchise. This post contains spoilers for the season 2 finale of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power."
"The Rings of Power" is brimming with homages and callbacks. The number of easter eggs I've found in season 2 alone is astonishing (and I didn't even include all of them in that list). Throughout both seasons, showrunners Jd Payne and Patrick McKay have gone outside of Middle-earth for inspiration countless times, including a Harrison Ford-in-"The Fugitive"-style leap into a waterfall in season 2, episode 1. (Ford's legendary stunt double for Indiana Jones also served as this show's second unit director; we spoke to him on an episode of the /Film Daily podcast after the big battle episode.)
The show also regularly goes back to Peter Jackson's film trilogy for creative and nostalgic moments, and I couldn't help but notice that "The Rings of Power" season 2 ended with not one...

“Trouble” is a Netflix movie starring Filip Berg. With Amy Diamond and Eva Melander. It is directed by John Holmberg.
“Trouble” is a Swedish cinematic gem available on Netflix that masterfully intertwines the crime thriller genre with classic comedy. This film achieves an impressive balance, entertaining its audience while maintaining the gripping pace typical of thrillers. The success of this dual-genre approach is largely due to its clever, ironic script and a series of outlandish situations that keep viewers hooked from start to finish.
At the heart of “Trouble” is Filip Berg, who delivers a stellar performance reminiscent of a comic twist on the iconic “The Fugitive” (1993). His portrayal of the awkward protagonist, Conny, is both engaging and endearing. Although the film’s humor is sometimes silly, it is executed with such effectiveness that it enhances rather than detracts from the overall experience. We found ourselves thoroughly entertained.
Plot Summary
The story revolves around Conny,...

His portrayal of the awkward protagonist, Conny, is both engaging and endearing. Although the film’s humor is sometimes silly, it is executed with such effectiveness that it enhances rather than detracts from the overall experience. We found ourselves thoroughly entertained.

The story revolves around Conny,...

For the anime uninitiated, "gritty cat-and-mouse thriller about a serial killer" probably doesn't sound like what you'd imagine. Yet, that's exactly the premise of one of the best works produced in the medium: "Monster," the 74-episode anime adapted from Naoki Urasawa's manga.
Inspired by the original "The Fugitive" television series with a European twist, "Monster" follows Dr. Kenzo Tenma. Many years ago, he saved the life of a young boy named Johan Liebert. Now, the doctor has been framed for murders committed by Johan, so he hunts Johan across Germany while dodging the cops. Tenma is not out to prove his innocence or bring Johan to justice, though. He wants to fix the mistake he made by reviving a monster.
The "Monster" anime is basically a shot for shot adaptation, but it colors in Urasawa's realistic Osamu Tezuka-flavored art-style with stellar music and voice-acting. The title sequence, "Grain,...

You can find plenty of paid services in the world of streaming apps. But you can also find some pretty great free ones too. We’re here to talk about those Fast services.
Eight Fast services offer all the movies and TV shows you can handle for the cost of watching a few ads during your show. It may seem like an inconvenience for some. But with the rising living costs, most of us are looking for ways to save a few bucks.
Ads may seem the worst to younger generations with short attention spans. But for us viewers with the legendary status of pre-Y2K, we cut our teeth on random commercial breaks during our favorite shows — many that are available on these Fast services.

With $3.12 billion in total theatrical box office grosses, China has now surpassed North America as the largest movie market in the world:
Hollywood studios first entered the Chinese market in 1994 with “The Fugitive” opening in theaters across Mainland China.
Popular features at the time, including "True Lies," "Titanic," and "Transformers" …
….previously dominated the Chinese box office…
…with Marvel’s "Avengers: Endgame" grossing over $592 million in 2019.
But in 2023, no American movies ranked among the 10 highest grossing in China despite highly anticipated sequels in the "Mission: Impossible," "Fast & Furious" and "Spider-Man" franchises.
As of 2024, only "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" has made it into the top ten.
Chinese audiences now prefer to see their own stories on the big screen, with China now the center of the largest movie studios in the world, including “Oriental Movie Metropolis” and “Hengdian World Studios”.

In the highly competitive acting industry, success is never guaranteed due to which a lot of actors initially struggle financially. To overcome this, many actors have side-jobs or a primary source of income while auditioning for their big break.
Harrison Ford in Star Wars | Twentieth Century-Fox
Star Wars fame, Harrison Ford, is remembered for his iconic role as Han Solo in the series, but not a lot of fans know that he had another identity. Before becoming a recognized actor, Ford worked as a carpenter to help earn a living for his family. This financial security enabled him to pick and choose his offers at will.
When Harrison Ford almost turned down this hit movie
Before Star Wars, Harrison Ford already gained a reputation due to his movie American Graffiti (1973). This George Lucas directorial helped put the skilled actor in the limelight and gained him the necessary exposure to kickstart his acting journey.

When Harrison Ford took the stage at Saturday night’s Marvel Studios panel at San Diego Comic-Con, he greeted the fans and then let loose with his mightiest roar. The crowd went nuts, but also registered more than a little surprise.
After all, Harrison Ford has disavowed any knowledge of the Red Hulk. Even after the first trailer for Captain America: Brave New World featured a glimpse of the Red Hulk, the full CGI nature of the character made it at least plausible that Ford would have shot his scenes as President Thunderbolt Ross without having any idea of what happens when he gets angry.
But not only did Ford play along with the crowd by doing a Hulk roar, but footage from Brave New World showed Ross transform into Red Hulk while standing behind the presidential podium.

I've said many times in the past that I generally prefer supernatural films over modern slashers, but Terrifier 3 is one of my most anticipated films this year, having absolutely loved the second film. And it's even better that we're getting the film in early October, so I'll be able to shock friends (and family) when I take them to see it as part of our Halloween celebrations. Take a look at the brand new trailer and poster below.
The official synopsis reads: "Art the Clown is set to unleash chaos on the unsuspecting residents of Miles County as they peacefully drift off to sleep on Christmas Eve."
"Terrifier 3 is directed & written by Damien Leone (Terrifier franchise) and features David Howard Thornton as the demonic killer, Art the Clown. The film also stars Lauren Lavera (Terrifier 2), Samantha Scaffidi, Elliott Fullam (Terrifier 2), Daniel Roebuck, Antonella Rose ("Fear the Walking Dead...

It was July 1994. The summer was sizzling. And so were cinemas. That’s truly no lie.
James Cameron’s action comedy flick “True Lies” opened in theaters on the 15th of the month, knocking “Forrest Gump” from the top of the box office chart in its second week. “True Lies” starred a pre-California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as a U.S. government spy whose occupation is unbeknownst to his own family. Once upon a time, in a TV world long ago, there was no such thing as a series finale. How can that be? In the beginning, most series were episodic, and although viewers came to love many characters, there weren’t story arcs to be resolved, or even futures to be determined. Somewhere out there, it seems, Lucy and Ricky and Fred and Ethel will always be up to their shenanigans, because it quite simply never really ended.
That all changed in 1963 when Americans got hooked on “The Fugitive.” Week to week, viewers tuned in to watch wrongly-convicted Dr. Kimble relentlessly search for his wife’s true killer while running from the law. TV history was made in 1967 when this series provided an actual conclusion to its story, which went on to become the most-watched television episode up to that time, proving that audiences yearned for closure with their favorite characters.

Horror picture "Longlegs" is proving to be a surprising box office success. A lot of credit must go to indie studio Neon's marketing campaign, which was scary enough to get people paying attention, yet restrained enough to not give the whole movie away.
Starring Maika Monroe as FBI Agent Lee Harker, "Longlegs" follows the hunt for a serial killer, played by a well-disguised Nicolas Cage. Cage's killer character is mercifully kept at a distance or off-screen for most of the movie; the rare times we get an up-close look, it's like we're intruding on something devilish.
Director Osgood Perkins' previous films have felt a bit too empty for me. The procedural core of "Longlegs," though, gives the movie enough of a skeleton that I could appreciate Perkins' craftsmanship without it trying my patience. Is "Longlegs" the scariest movie ever? No, but it is the movie equivalent of a page-turner,...

Sikking was announced by his publicist, Cynthia Snyder, to have passed away this Saturday at his Los Angeles home due to complications with dementia. Sikking was a regular and a frequent collaborator of Steven Bochco shows. The actor is known for portraying the stern Lt. James B. Sikking, the Steven Bochco favorite who portrayed the no-nonsense Lt. Howard Hunter on Hill Street Blues and the good-hearted doctor dad on Doogie Howser, M.D., has died. He was 90.

Although best known for his TV work, Sikking did have notable turns on the big screen as a mocking hitman in John Boorman’s Point Blank (1967), as the stuffy Captain Styles in Leonard Nimoy‘s Star Trek III: The Search for Spock (1984) and as the director of the FBI in Alan J. Pakula’s The Pelican Brief (1993).
After spending the better part of two decades showing up on such shows as The Outer Limits, Honey West, The Fugitive, Hogan’s Heroes and Mannix, Sikking was cast as the pipe-smoking Hunter, leader of the Swat-like Emergency Action Team, on NBC’s Hill Street Blues.

Rian Johnson's "Looper" is not your standard issue time travel flick. It's also a neo-noir crime yarn that veers into a man-on-the-lam thriller before unexpectedly integrating elements of telekinetic horror. It's a full 118-minute meal that more than satisfies on every subsequent viewing. And while you can easily rattle off its numerous movie influences, the film that most inspired Johnson's crafting of the narrative, particularly as it settles into its second act, is a quieter kind of genre tale.
Most moviegoers probably didn't anticipate what was sold as a Bruce Willis sci-fi action movie to head off in so many surprising directions, but Johnson has been infusing his films with all kinds of unexpected flavors since his critically acclaimed debut "Brick" –- and, frankly, even most cinephiles familiar with Johnson's oeuvre up to that point were caught off-guard by the younger version of the movie's protagonist (Joseph Gordon-Levitt...

This past week was a huge one for John Mulaney. Sure he got married to Olivia Munn, but most importantly, he was a contestant on a TV game show!
Mulaney appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel-hosted celebrity edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, along with his Oh, Hello co-star Nick Kroll. This season will find all the famous contestants competing as pairs, either because it leads to more fun cross-talk, or because two celebrities have the combined intelligence of one regular person.
One question the duo was asked early on involved Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, specifically, the title of a recent book about the legendary film critics by Matt Singer, which nods to their “signature gesture.” Some of the options included “Cold Feet” and “Restless Legs.”
Mulaney responded by launching into an anecdote about a decades-old interaction with one-half of Siskel and Ebert. “My friend in Chicago lived below Siskel,...

The word “franchise” is now familiar to fans of Harrison Ford, with multiple visits to the same characters in the “Star Wars,” Indiana Jones, “Blade Runner” and Jack Ryan (this must be some sort of record in franchise-starring).
In between, Ford got to exercise his acting muscles in such non-franchise films as “42,” “The Fugitive,” “The Mosquito Coast,” “Working Girl,” “Air Force One,” and of course “Witness,” the only movie to bring him an Oscar nomination. He has received other honors, including the American Film Institute life achievement award and the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes.
We’ve collected 15 of Ford’s best films and ranked them from worst to first, including the ones mentioned above. Tour our photo gallery and see if you agree or disagree with our choices.

Being recognized as an action star, Harrison Ford made his name known worldwide with the Indiana Jones franchise. The actor is very much of a thriller actor too, and you may have seen his The Fugitive (1993), The Devil's Own (1997) and Firewall (2006).
However, there was a movie that not only brought Ford an Oscar nomination, but also displayed his full drama potential. It is still hailed by Redditors, even though the world saw it almost 40 years ago, and is claimed to be one of the best 80s thrillers.
The film starts by introducing us to Rachel and Samuel, Amish mother and her young kid, who witnesses a brutal murder of a policeman. They seek protection from John Book (played by Ford), an officer who aims to take them to safety at all costs.
Book learns that Samuel is now a target of the conspiracy that lies behind the murder and police corruption,...
