In the series, it is revealed that Catharine Ness's maiden name is "Staley". this refers to Edna Staley, the first wife of the real Eliot Ness. In real-life, Ness was married three times.
Valentino Cimo, who portrays Al Capone's chief bodyguard, Frankie Rio, previously portrayed the character in The Untouchables (1987). In the movie, Rio is punched by Eliot Ness (Kevin Costner), and is later shot dead by Ness at the beginning of the train station shoot-out.
Agent Malone was played in the film The Untouchables (1987) by Sir Sean Connery, and in this series by John Rhys-Davies. Connery and Rhys-Davies appeared in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989).
