Freevee, Amazon’s free ad-supported streaming service, is being shut down.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Amazon plans to fold the platform into Prime Video, with Freevee executives expected to be integrated into various divisions within the company. Freevee’s programming will still be available at no charge for users who don’t subscribe to Prime Video (which is included with an Amazon Prime membership).
“To deliver a simpler viewing experience for customers, we have decided to phase out Freevee branding,” an Amazon spokesperson said in a statement. “There will be no change to the content available for Prime members, and a vast offering of free streaming content will still be accessible for non-Prime members, including select originals from Amazon MGM Studios, a variety of licensed movies and series, and a broad library of Fast channels, all available on Prime Video.”

There’s no crying in baseball, and there’s never too much eating in it either if you’re Tom Hanks.
The 1992 historical sports comedy A League of Their Own is a completely timeless and mostly fictionalized account of the real-life All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (Aagpbl), and its contribution to the sport of baseball in the quotes department remains nearly unmatched: “There’s no crying in baseball,” “The hard is what makes it great” and “Did anyone ever tell you, you look like a penis with that little hat on?” are all bangers, and they’re all spoken by the fabricated boozehound Jimmy Dugan, played by Hanks.
A departure from his usual affable, fuckable everyman character, Hanks’ portrayal of the ball-scratching, long-pissing and hilariously ornery manager of the Rockford Peaches is one his best-ever comic roles specifically because it was so off-brand. During a chat with the Happy Sad Confused podcast,...

In the modern landscape of blockbusters, it’s not uncommon for actors to gain or lose weight to fit their characters, especially in the realm of Cbms. But back in the ’90s, director Penny Marshall, who collaborated with Tom Hanks on two occasions, urged the actor to gain weight for a contrasting reason.

The Oscar winner, who previously lost weight to fit the part of an out-of-shape middle-aged man in Cast Away, recalled being told to overcome his cuteness for A League of Their Own.

Shot lists, storyboards, models, pre-viz: There are many different ways for a director, Dp, and a camera team to plot what a movie will look like before they start shooting. But cinematographer Kristen Correll and director Megan Park have a delightfully lo-fi, surprisingly useful approach to conceptualizing the world they’re about to create.
Correll told IndieWire that, as part of starting to talk about what the film would need and how they would shoot it, she had Park read aloud the script for “My Old Ass.”
She tries to do that with all her directors, because hearing a script helps Correll locate the exact tone she will need to create with her camera.
“The way I’m reading things in my head, I might think I have it correct, but then, you hear it from the writer/director and you’re like, ‘Ok, I got that wrong,’ or ‘I was spot on,...

Tom Hanks once spilled the beans on a surprising regret from Angels & Demons—and nope, it wasn’t about hunting down ancient clues or dodging cryptic villains. It all revolved around his unexpected encounter—or rather, missed encounter with the Man of Steel actress.

Hanks looked back, admitting that while he unraveled Vatican mysteries, he also missed the chance to work closely with his co-star. For Hanks, it was a “what if” moment in his film journey, wishing he’d had more time to share the screen with one of cinema’s future powerhouses.

Brian Bonsall started acting on Family Ties when he was 5 years old, playing the role of Andy Keaton through the show's final three seasons.
He said of his time on Family Ties: "Good memories for sure. They were a second family to me, growing up doing that ... Michael J. Fox used to come pick me up in his Ferrari, taught me to dive into a pool. It was so comfortable hanging out."
The break helped him appear in more 1990s shows, including Father Hood and Blank Check, until he retired in 1995. He later shifted his career and pursued his passion for music with several bands.
Bonsall found himself in trouble when he was arrested in Boulder, Colo.

Michael Keaton is hosting Saturday Night Live on October 19. The Oscar nominee has been getting lots of attention for reprising his iconic title character in the sequel Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and is a choice selection to host after three previous appearances.
Keaton has the comedic chops to be an SNL cast member, but he never actually auditioned. There was, however, a cast member from the original Beetlejuice film who did audition for the show, and was promptly turned down.

The new iteration of “The Office” at Peacock has found four more cast members.
Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Tim Key, and Eric Rahill have all joined the untitled series. They join previously announced cast members Domhnall Gleeson, Sabrina Impacciatore, Melvin Gregg, Chelsea Frei, and Ramona Young.
Ikumelo, Edelman, and Rahill will also be writers on the series in addition to appearing onscreen. Exact character details are being kept under wraps. Ikumelo recently won the BAFTA Award for female performance in a comedy program for “Black Ops,” while Edelman just won an Emmy and Special Tony award for his comedy show “Just for Us.”
As has been previously reported, the show is not a reboot or spinoff of “The Office,” but rather a new mockumentary show with a new cast set in the same universe. It is rumored to be currently titled “The Paper” but no official title has been announced.

Before she was starring in movies, hosting her own talk show and publicly feuding with garbage people, Rosie O’Donnell began her career in show business as a stand-up comedian. In fact, back in the ‘80s, she won Star Search five times.
But as O’Donnell just recounted on David Duchovny’s Fail Better podcast, her first attempt at stand-up didn’t go so well — mainly because she ripped off another comedian’s entire act.
O’Donnell only became a comic after Richie Minervini, then the owner of The East Side Comedy Club on Long Island, approached her after witnessing the teenager get big laughs during a high school performance. (Note to any modern club owners out there: Randomly approaching minors following school productions probably wouldn’t fly anymore.) Minervini told O’Donnell: “I own a comedy club, I think you’d be a great stand-up comic.”

Tom Hanks – a name that immediately evokes warm, honey-flavored feelings of comfort and delight when it comes to the world of show business and entertainment. Pair that with Steven Spielberg and you get an Oscar-winning, Emmy-grabbing work of art that can cast a mile-long shadow over every other project coming out of the studio lineup in the same year.
In 1998, the iconic actor-director duo made history by marrying their talents in Saving Private Ryan after an incredible lot of hemming and hawing. Like us mortals, Spielberg and Hanks too were afraid of ruining a good friendship by adding business into the mix. But like all functional relationships, their adventure stood the test of time, though not without a few disagreements first.

How would you define “locked in”? Sure, we know it’s a matter of staying focused on the task and letting nothing get in your way. But how would we describe that in movies and TV? What examples would you give? Well, in a recent social media trend, fans are putting their money on some of the biggest names in the history of entertainment.
Last week, X user jayjjalen asked followers to “define ‘locked in’”, resulting in millions of views and thousands of replies. The real catch here is that the “locked in” phase must have been consecutive and uninterrupted. In other words, if there was one slip-up via a box office bomb or creative flop, it doesn’t count – that is, they weren’t truly “locked in.”

Matt and Ross Duffer struck gold when they created the supernatural drama Stranger Things for Netflix. That series is set in the 1980s, a period the Duffers are clearly enamored with. The show is coming to an end with a final season to air hopefully next year, but the brothers have other irons in the fire, including a new Netflix show called The Boroughs.
The Duffers will only be involved in a producing capacity; showrunning duties will fall to Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews, the guys behind the canceled-too-soon series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. Ben Taylor will direct several episodes including the pilot, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
But I still see the Duffers' fingerprints all over this show, which is about "a group of unlikely heroes" living in a retirement community who must "band together to stop an otherworldly threat from stealing the one thing they don't have — time.

"A League of Their Own" was one of those movies that always seemed to be airing on cable when I was growing up -- and I mean always. It's not a dad movie, per se; technically, its nearly all-women cast makes it the opposite of one. Yet, it hits a lot of the same pleasure centers. It even stars America's Dad himself, Tom Hanks! At the time, though, the actor was coming off a string of box office misfires and was far from the national treasure that he is today. Hence, he asked his old buddy Penny Marshall -- who had directed him in the 1988 hit "Big" (a problematic fantasy-comedy that I still have a soft spot for) four years earlier -- to cast him in "A League of Their Own," hoping it would change his fortunes. And boy, did it ever.

Just before midnight on Thursday, it was reportedly engulfed in flames. The 1930s ballpark was unable to be saved and there is an investigation underway. Here are the details.

Local reports say that the fire started at the Jay Littleton Ball Park in Ontario, California around 11:30 p.m. Firefighters responded to the scene, but the historic ballpark was already engulfed in flames.
The fire seemed to originate from the stadium and dugout, which was featured in films like A League Of Their Own. Unfortunately, nothing could be done to save the ballpark.

Tom Hanks’ A League of Their Own character famously said, “There’s no crying in baseball,” but folks might make an exception today. A baseball park east of Los Angeles that has been a popular filming location for movies and TV shows was badly damaged in a fire overnight.
Along with the Penny Marshall-directed 1992 pic that starred Hanks, Geena Davis, Rosie O’Donnell, Madonna and Lori Petty, the park also has hosted film shoots for such features as the 1988 Charlie Sheen-John Cusack Black Sox movie Eight Men Out and the 1992 biopic The Babe starring John Goodman as Babe Ruth. It also has been used for numerous TV commercials, the city said.
The blaze was reported around 11:30 p.m. Thursday at Jay Littleton Ball Park in Ontario. An Ontario Fire Department spokesperson told Key News Network that the fire was fully involved when the crews reached to the scene.

Queer film fans in Los Angeles are feeling the summer void left by the beloved Outfest, which paused its programming last year amid financial issues and staff layoffs and has yet to resume. But a new film series, called Queer Rhapsody, looks to fill that crater across five venues July 19-28 — and with curation from the UCLA Film and Television Archive and one of Outfest’s former own. Even if they aren’t looking just to replace the 40-year-long legacy of L.A.’s oldest film festival. Plus, Queer Rhapsody is decidedly a series, not a festival.
With a focus on liberating narratives and a program of more than 50 narrative and documentary features and shorts, Queer Rhapsody opens at the Hammer Museum’s Billy Wilder Theater with Drew Denny’s “Second Nature.” Narrated by Elliot Page, the documentary follows trans trailblazer and evolutionary biologist Dr. Joan Roughgarden, who meets with...

Music icon Madonna is no stranger to the film side of entertainment. The singer would crossover into movies on many occasions, including starring in a variety of projects like Body of Evidence, A League of Their Own and Dick Tracy. For a time, she would even be married to director Guy Ritchie, who she made a film with called Swept Away. In the past few years, Madonna had been reportedly developing a biopic about herself in which she would be in the rare position to both write and direct. Early last year, the project would not come together and she scrapped the project just ahead of her world tour.
Deadline is now reporting that the 80s pop icon teased on her Instagram that the project is once again in development. Madonna posted a slideshow that featured a series of pictures of her working on a typewriter and her table is littered with screenplay pages.

Legend has it that every turning point in American history was marked by the presence and influence of an elusive and mythical Forrest Gump. Tom Hanks has been one of the most celebrated actors in the industry, with his performances in numerous acclaimed films like Forrest Gump and Cast Away. However, his career took a turn for good in the 1990s, when he earned acclaim for his movies like A League of Their Own and Sleepless in Seattle.

The latter was a huge blockbuster and is still considered to be one of the most successful romantic comedy films of all time, marking the beginning of Hanks’ modern era of filmmaking. With prominent supporting roles in classics like “A League of Their Own” and “Dick Tracy,” as well as the lead in the screen adaptation of the musical “Evita,” Madonna’s film career is well-established, but might never have happened without her star turn in the 1985 cult comedy “Desperately Seeking Susan.” A modern farce set in the scuzzy beauty of ‘80s New York City, the film follows a straight-laced housewife and a bohemian drifter who become intertwined in a criminal plot involving a pair of stolen earrings. While the film is led by actress Roseanna Arquette, it quickly became known as the “Madonna movie,” with her character’s fashion sense — which mirrored Madonna’s own — and her free-spirit energy coming to define the popular culture of the era.

As a kid growing up in the nineties, a movie that always got a ton of play in my household was Penny Marshall’s A League of Their Own. I have fond memories of seeing it in theaters as a ten-year-old in the summer of 1992, and it’s a movie I only revisit from time to time. So, I’m pretty happy to hear that my next revisit will be in glorious 4K, with Sony revealing that the movie’s coming out on 4K disc this September, with a fully loaded special edition.
For those who may not remember the film, it’s based on the real-life All-American Girls Baseball League, which sprung up during World War II, as most male players were overseas fighting the war. In the film, Geena Davis (in an iconic performance) plays Dottie Hinson, who, along with her sister Kit (Lori Petty), becomes a star player for the Rockford Peaches.

If one were to rank all the major streaming services by queerness, Amazon Prime Video would be a pretty tough one to pin down.
On the one hand, you have to give credit where credit is due: One of the service’s very first stabs at original programming was “Transparent,” which in turn was one of the first shows to star a trans main character. That show now has a lot of baggage, but it’s hard to its understate historical significance.
Beyond the thorny topic of “Transparent,” Prime Video does have a good track record of releasing shows with LGBTQ characters and centering their narratives on queer themes; in particular, many of their shows focus on queer women, refreshingly avoiding the centering of gay men that defined queer TV for decades. This spring, the streamer dropped a phenomenal limited series retelling of David Cronenberg’s “Dead Ringers,” starring Rachel Weisz as twin lesbian gynecologists.

Tom Hanks is known as the ‘Dad of Hollywood’ due to his penchant for choosing good-guy roles in his movies. The actor has worked with acclaimed directors such as Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood, Robert Zemeckis, and more in his extensive filmography. He even won the Oscar twice in a row for his performances in Philadelphia and Forrest Gump.
Having established himself as a legendary actor in Hollywood history, Hanks has extensive knowledge in performing and even gave a small exercise for this generation’s most beloved ‘Tom’, Tom Holland. “Let’s face it, I had a bad script,” director Michael Bay said on the commentary track of his debut feature film, Bad Boys. Bay isn’t wrong. Bad Boys relies on buddy comedy tropes already established in 1974’s Freebie and the Bean and 1982’s 48 Hrs., complete with nonsense plot points. “But I had real comic talent in my two stars.” Bay of course means Martin Lawrence and Will Smith. Drawn from the popular sitcoms Martin and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Lawrence and Smith saved the movie from the clunky script with their easy chemistry and comic timing.
At one point, however, Bad Boys had two very different stars in mind with a comic chemistry unlike that of Lawrence and Smith.

Madonna‘s movie A League of Their Own received a warm reception from audiences. On the other hand, the “Like a Prayer” singer publicly criticized the movie. She didn’t think it lived up to two classic movies that she considered works of art. However, the Queen of Pop didn’t completely dismiss A League of Their Own.
Madonna said ‘A League of Their Own’ ‘candy-coated’ a fascinating story
A League of Their Own is loosely based on the history of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, which paved the way for a lot of women’s sports leagues. During a 1992 interview with The Guardian, the Material Girl said the film reified the concept of the American Dream. She was asked if the movie was “phony.” “It depends on who’s telling the story,” she said. “There are people that have their own views of America.

A League of Their Own might be Madonna‘s most beloved movie. While the film holds up, people don’t often speak of the hit single that came out of it. Here’s what the Queen of Pop had to say about the film and the song.
Madonna wrote a ballad for ‘A League of Their Own’
Madonna is the Queen of Pop, but she generally wasn’t the Queen of Movies. For every hit like Evita she starred in, the Material Girl starred in four or five embarrassing flops. One of the most beloved bright spots in her film career was A League of Their Own, an ensemble comedy about women in baseball.
During a 1992 interview with The Guardian, Madonna discussed her attitude toward making movies. “It’s not something you can just go, ‘Ok, I’ve got an idea I’m going to go into the studio and record and put it out,...
