Fans of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” were sad when her love interest and fan favorite Angel announced his departure at the end of the third season. But the character of Angel, played by David Boreanaz, got his own spin-off show that took him away from Sunnydale and to the big city of Los Angeles. “Angel” debuted on October 5, 1999 and immediately split fans on which was the “better” show. Read on for more about the “Angel” 25th anniversary.
The character of Angel was born an Irishman named Liam, who was turned into a vampire by Darla (Julie Benz) over two centuries before, and became the sadistic and feared Angelus, who caused years of death and destruction across Europe. But he wreaked havoc on the wrong people when he angered the Romani clan, who cursed him with his human soul filled with memories of the pain he has caused. His guilt and...

Since The Powers That Be canceled ABC soap All My Children in 2011, fans have wanted it to return. It did briefly when Prospect Park rebooted online in 2013, but that didn’t last. For a while, it seemed Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos would move the daytime drama to primetime in the form of Pine Valley, but that never panned out. Finally, though, a long-awaited version of AMC could be coming your way, and it’s not what you think.
Pine Valley Lives Again
According to TV Line, the defunct soap may be revived as a series of television movies on Lifetime. At this time, though, all discussions are “exploratory.”
If AMC did reappear in this fashion, the network would likely feature characters from the beloved soap opera in a series of movies. It’s unclear if the movies would be set in Pine Valley or how that would work.

Adam finally came clean with Sally on the August 28 episode of The Young and the Restless. He admitted that he slept with Chelsea and that he lied about it. Sally demanded to know if he still loved Chelsea. Adam made noises that weren’t very convincing. In either direction. Which means that Sally is out of there. But what should she do next?
Suffer the Children
Obviously, Sally (Courtney Hope — who just had a great time with Melissa Claire Egan) needs to make Adam (Mark Grossman) suffer. We are all in on that.
And you know the best way to make Adam suffer? Make him watch Sally happily going on with her life — without him. Sure, maybe they can get back together down the line. That’s what soaps are all about. But, in the meantime, let him suffer. And let her soar.

Fox is developing the one-hour drama “The Miracle Department,” Variety has learned exclusively.
The official logline states, “Based on a real Catholic organization, ‘The Miracle Department’ is a heartfelt, comedic, hour-long series about a brilliant, but disgraced, former FBI agent who joins forces with a quirky task force to hunt for genuine miracles.”
Brendan McCarthy and Alex Kavallierou serve as writers and executive producers on the project. “Friends” co-creator Marta Kauffman will also executive produce via Okay Goodnight along with Robbie Rowe Tollin and Hannah K.S. Canter. Fox Entertainment Studios will produce.
The project marks a reunion for Kauffman, McCarthy, and Kavallierou. Kavallierou and McCarthy were previously writers on the Netflix series “Grace and Frankie,” which Kauffman co-created with Howard J. Morris. Kavallierou has also worked on shows like “Sullivan and Son” as well as “Rob Brydon: Live.”

The stunt took weeks of preparation. Building a tank. Training with freedivers and magicians. Developing the filming schedule.
The end result of the effort, a new episode of YouTube star Michelle Khare’s series Challenge Accepted in which she attempted to recreate Harry Houdini’s deadliest trick, has since garnered more than 4.5 million views on YouTube.
The final product has a production quality that would rival what’s on “traditional” TV (in fact, magician David Blaine attempted a similar stunt for a 2006 primetime ABC special), but Khare produced the episode herself, for her YouTube audience.
“For Challenge Accepted because we release very infrequently — unlike a normal season of television, it’s about 10 to 15 episodes a year — and within each of those episodes, we are representing a unique community,” Khare says in an interview. “So for example, in the video where I attempted Harry Houdini’s deadliest magic trick, we’re...

General Hospital viewers have wondered why The Powers That Be (Tptb) brought John “Jagger” Cates (Adam Harrington) back to Port Charles.
Now, we know.
The recent episode of General Hospital put the pieces together about where Jason (Steve Burton) has been and who has been giving him directions.
When Monsters and Critics broke down the possibilities of who was after Sonny (Maurice Benard), both Jagger and Jason were on the list, but the possibility of Jason working on Jagger’s order didn’t cross our minds.
After Jason’s “dream” in the most recent episode, viewers learned he was caught after escaping the collapsed tunnel and flown to Quantico. There, Jagger could get his hands on Sonny’s right-hand man.
There’s plenty more to be told, and when the connections are put together, there will be many shocked people in Port Charles.

Norman Lear, who recently passed away at the age of 101, transformed the network television sitcom in the 1970s by confronting America's cultural contentiousness head-on and daring viewers to laugh at a bigot like Archie Bunker on "All in the Family" or the white-folks-hating George Jefferson on "The Jeffersons." People were more than ready to accept this challenge. "All in the Family" was the top-rated show on television for six of its nine seasons, while "The Jeffersons" ranked in the top 10 for four of its remarkable 11 seasons. Along with "Good Times," "Sanford and Son," "Maude," "One Day at a Time" and "Diff'rent Strokes," Lear basically dominated the decade. It was a creative hot streak that's never been matched and one that Lear could never replicate.
After the 1978 premiere of "Diff'rent Strokes," Lear went ice cold. "The Baxters" and "Palmerstown, USA" only hung around for two seasons, while "Hanging In" and "aka...

Two years ago, during the lockdown, I wrote that I had become addicted to those little bird-box libraries that make walking here something of a literary pilgrimage.
I’m still addicted. And almost two months ago, just before the writers strike began, I made a charming discovery–that one of my neighbors is a Very Famous Writer– all thanks to his sidewalk library.
The writer will remain unnamed, because privacy is something to be respected, even by reporters. But here’s the short form:
About four o’clock one afternoon, before the dog-crowd comes out, I felt a need for one of those short, head-clearing walks. A good target, I figured, would be a spot some blocks away, where somebody or other was maintaining what I’d long thought was the best little library in town. I won’t give titles, because some of those might tip the owner’s identity.

With any new entry into a well-trod subgenre, it's always challenging to make the material feel a little fresher and more unique compared to what's come before. A number of thrillers have had hapless families discover the father/husband had a secret, dark past, making husbands secret murderers, reformed former criminals ("A History of Violence"), cheaters, liars with other families ("Frequent Flyer") or even secretive agents or heroes (humorously subverted in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith"). It's a tried-and-true background for a thriller, but the setup always presents a unique challenge: how could this very specific trope be pivoted to stand out in a crowded field?

Is anyone else's head spinning right now?
There are a lot of words that can be used to describe Evil Season 1 Episode 11, but the one that comes to mind is confusing.
I spent the entirety of the episode wondering if I, too, had been massively overmedicated, as I had no idea what was happening half the time, though maybe that was the point.
I've lost count -- not that I was keeping track -- of what still needs to be answered, but after this episode, some questions have become increasingly clear.
How does Matthew Chapter 13 Verse 25 connect to what's been happening on the show? Is it in any way related to Euler's triangle, or is that a separate matter altogether?
Grace: Hi.
Acosta: Hey.
Grace: You have a question?
Acosta: I … I do. Should I be afraid here?
Grace: Anyone with God doesn’t need to be afraid.

Well, that wasn't a very "merry" Christmas, though no one should have expected it to be.
From stabbings, to sticking sharp objects in your ears, and suicide instruction memes, Evil Season 1 Episode 10 was a very violent ride.
Usually, it'd be worth discussing in great length that the episode ended with Acosta being stabbed, but there's not really a need, as there's no way under the sun The Powers That Be would kill off their male lead in the first season.
No, the stabbing is much more indicative of just how far Townsend's reach has become.
Townsend: In 1785, the king of France found that potatoes were the most economical way to feed the peasantry. The problem was peasants hated potatoes. So the kind has his servants build a big brick wall and behind it, he plants potatoes in his secret garden. The peasants grow curious and then upset. They climb over...

The Zombieland universe is one filled with larger-than-life characters and R-rated action, and it’s about to return to our screens next weekend thanks to the souped-up sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap.
The Powers That Be over at Sony Pictures currently have all hands at the pump to promote said sequel, which involved sending director Ruben Fleischer to Los Angeles Comic Con 2019 alongside writing duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, who are perhaps best known for their work on the Deadpool franchise.
Speaking of which, Reese and Wernick firmly believe that Wade Wilson would make the perfect addition to the Zombieland franchise – hell, as the screenwriters so rightly point out, the Merc With a Mouth is essentially a fast-talking zombie thanks to his incredible healing abilities. And we all know how much he enjoys dropping the odd F-bomb.
“Deadpool would do great in Zombieland. He’s kind of a zombie himself with the way he heals.

It’s only been three years (and change) since DC’s Suicide Squad movie arrived in theaters, and already, Warner Bros. is plotting a hard reset with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn at the helm.
The Powers That Be made the swoop soon after Gunn was fired by Disney – only to be reinstated at the helm of Guardians 3, which he’ll begin developing once The Suicide Squad has seen the warm light of day. It’ll feature an entirely new version of Task Force X, though there’s still room in Gunn’s ranks for Harley Quinn (Birds of Prey‘s Margot Robbie), Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), Rick Flagg (Joel Kinnaman) and Captain Boomerang, the latter of whom will be played once again by Jai Courtney.
One cast member who won’t be returning though is Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, who portrayed Killer Croc in the 2016 spinoff. As a matter of fact,...

It’s certainly an interesting premise for The Haunting of Hill House 2.0, and will offer Flanagan and his creative team plenty of opportunities to leave viewers rooted to the edge of their seats – overcome with fear and bone-chilling horror as Bly Manor begins to unveil its many mysteries.
At least, that’s our big takeaway from this eerie teaser trailer...

Providing everything goes according to plan, Star Wars: Episode IX will wrap principal photography by February 2019.
That’s according to the good folks at Omega Underground, who claim that J.J. Abrams and Chris Terrio’s starry epic will be ready to enter post early next year.
No word on a specific end date for Episode IX, though it’s worth keeping in mind that these things tend to chop and change as filming progresses. And that’s before we even factor in the inevitable reshoots and pick-ups that will likely take place next summer – similar to how Avengers 4 has spent the past number of weeks capturing additional scenes ahead of its own release in 2019.

Magnus and Alec are the literal definition of relationship goals. Their love for each other is both wholesome and pure and they always do their best to be honest and open with one another.

Could Ralph Fiennes be appointed as ringleader of a new, much older circle of Kingsmen?
That’s the latest casting tidbit to emerge from That Hashtag Show, which claims that Fiennes, star of Harry Potter and The Grand Budapest Hotel, is currently high on Fox’s wishlist for Kingsman 3.
From what we understand, Matthew Vaughn and long-time collaborator Jane Goldman are already hard at work on the film’s story, which is said to mine inspiration from The Great Game by swinging the door open to an elderly (and elite) pantheon of Kinsgmen, along with a young and cocksure newcomer in Conrad.
The latter’s addition will surely lead to some fireworks between him and Eggsy (Taron Egerton), though this description from Ths hints that Conrad may not be the brightest bulb.

The relationship between Magnus and Alec on Shadowhunters is one of the best 'ships currently on television.
Alec is a Shadowhunter and head of the New York Institute while Magnus is the High Warlock of Brooklyn. Seeing as they're both in charge of two groups who don't particularly get along, they have the odds stacked against them in almost every way.
Despite their struggles, Alec and Magnus never let their differences keep them apart. They have proved throughout the series that their love is strong enough to overcome anything life throws at them.
Not only are they great representation for the Lgbtq community, but they also have a pure and healthy relationship that everyone can look up to. They're one of the many reasons we're all fighting so hard to #SaveShadowhunters.

Is it sim-bee-ote, or sim-bye-ote?
Amid all of the excitement generated by Venom‘s first full trailer, Marvel fans were left puzzled by the pronunciation of ‘symbiote,’ given Jenny Slate’s corporate figure insisted on adding a rather odd emphasis on the middle syllable.
The Powers That Be quietly hinted that Slate’s mystery character was actually citing the British version of ‘symbiote,’ as the cast and crew behind Venom – namely Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed and director Ruben Fleischer – have clarified what is surely the preferred pronunciation of the word. Spoilers: it’s sim-bee-ote.
Here’s what Fleischer told Entertainment Weekly (h/t ComicBook.com) soon after Venom‘s trailer debut at San Diego Comic-Con.
Yeah for sure, it’s sim-bee-ote. That’s been confirmed. You say poh-tay-to, I say poh-tah-to. I think sim-bee-ote is the preferred pronunciation.

Tony Stark, Bruce Banner, Wong and Doctor Stephen Strange are all extraordinary individuals capable of great things, but together they are more – together, they are Marvel’s Science Bros.
That term quickly became the catch-all for Stark and Co. once Avengers: Infinity War began shooting, at which point it was revealed via set pics that the McU’s magical foursome would be defending New York City from two members of the Black Order – namely Ebony Maw and Cull Obsidian.
What those set photos didn’t tell us, though, is that this scene in question is a lot funnier than initially expected, as Tony Stark trades insults with Ebony Maw, only to be embarrassed in front of Marvel’s wizards by an Incredible Hulk still reeling from his clash with Thanos.

Chucky co-creator Don Mancini really isn’t buying into the whole ‘Child’s Play remake’ going on at MGM, eh?
Horror enthusiasts were up in arms last week when it emerged that MGM and It producers David Katzenberg and Seth Grahame-Smith were plotting a total reimagining of the classic slasher film from ’88, one which currently has Norwegian filmmaker Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) locked in to direct.
The Powers That Be have even gone so far as to fast-track their Child’s Play remake for a September 2018 production start, leaving Mancini with just one question – why?
Why go to the trouble of rebooting a perfectly healthy horror franchise when Universal is “fully committed” to honoring the Chucky canon? Hell, there’s even a live-action TV series in the works from Don Mancini and fellow franchise veteran David Kirschner, and it seems even now, eight days after MGM’s revelation, Mancini still isn...

Being underestimated can often work to your advantage. Lowered expectations not only leave you able to surprise the naysayers at every turn, but it also leaves the haters less inclined to harp on your shortcomings. Yes, it's good to be underrated. Except on television -- the land where ratings and buzz are king.

Being underrated on television often results in being included in the much feared Brilliant, But Canceled conversation. However, thanks to the internet, underrated shows are thriving as networks realize ratings don't always equal success. And as The Powers That Be continue weighing other factors into their decision-making (particularly social media), these low-performing, high-quality shows are seeing their lives extended and leaving their fans overjoyed.

Last summer, Glee star Jane Lynch appeared at a tech conference held by the Wall Street Journal‘s All Things Digital. Acting as “temporary head honcho of News Corp,” she described changes she’d be implementing at the company. The first was closing iPad publication The Daily. “Never heard of it, never seen it, so clearly I’ll be shutting that down,” she said. The powers that be may now be taking her advice. The fate of the tablet publication that is said to have losses of about $30M per year, is being weighed by News Corp according to The New York Times and The New York Observer. The Daily was launched with much fanfare in early 2011 after being designed with help from the late Steve Jobs. Although it said in February that it had 100,000 paying subscribers and 250,000 unique readers a month, it has not exactly redefined the news as touted at its introduction.

What's the quickest way to make even more money from a wildly profitable series? Take the most anticipated entry in the series and make two movies about it. The powers that be know how rabid fans of something like Twilight and Harry Potter will be about a film adaptation of their beloved literatures. They also know they'll shell out the second admission price for two films. Cynicism aside, the structure of a two part film can allow the creators to more accurately port the source material to the screen.

Back when Sony Pictures announced it was going to reboot the Spider-Man franchise, it felt as if Dr. Octopus had simultaneously slapped my face, sucker punched me and whacked me on the nuts. After waiting three years for signs that Sam Raimi would recapture the magic of Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2 (and make amends for the listless mess that was Spider-Man 3), the disheartening news came. The powers that be had decided to serve up the same old familiar origin story (misfit Peter Parker gets bitten, goes through Spidey-puberty and lets his uncle die because he hasn’t got his proverbial caca together), instead of taking the saga into more interesting territory. This was not just an “aw, shucks” let-down like the one I felt when I heard Edward Norton wouldn’t be reprising the role of Bruce Banner in The Avengers. I actually sunk into an existential lament for the future of the superhero genre. I...

Comic-Con Sundays are typically light on horror, and this year is no exception although once again our favorite panel, "Supernatural", is heading to Hall H. Here are the genre highlights as well as info on the 36th annual Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive.
One thing we can't stress enough is to keep checking the Sdcc website for updates as nothing's set in stone until the event actually starts happening.
10:00-11:00 Emily the Strange— Be a part of the Emily the Strange panel experience, where you have the chance to prove your knowledge of Strange and win prizes, learn what's new in Emily's oddball universe (including a sneak peek at the new Emily and the Strangers comic book series), and Q&A with Emily's creator Rob Reger, artist Buzz Parker, and writer Jessica Gruner. Did we mention you will get some cool stuff just for showing up and being Strange?...

We’ve got questions, and you’ve (maybe) got answers! With another week of TV gone by, here are some queries we’re going to lob at you, from shows including The Killing, Mad Men, Girls and Pretty Little Liars!
1 | Has The Killing ever delivered as big a smile (or any smile, for that matter) as when Linden waved the pinched key card at the casino security camera, brandishing a big ol’ grin? But at what point does Linden’s determination to solve Rosie Larsen’s murder (yes, that is still the premise of the series) veer into sad, depressing and near-delusional territory?...

Let the Bachelorette games begin! Emily Maynard, the beautiful, blond southern belle who won Brad Womack's heart but didn't want to take the next step with him, returned to the Chris Harrison-hosted circus tonight, this time as the center of attention. One by one, her would-be fiancés climbed out of the limos like clowns out of a Volkswagen, each one smiling and hoping to make the most of the 30 seconds given to greet the woman he already thinks is the perfect woman for him. But first—a race-car driver? Really? The powers that be plucked Arie, a 30-year-old race-car driver, out of the pack of would-be suitors. And, as you may have heard, the Bachelorette's one-time fiance,...

If finding new acting jobs is proving difficult, could Mel Gibson find a glittering new career as a travel operator? If so, James has a few holiday destination suggestions…
Do you remember back in primary (elementary) school when you’d return to the classroom in September and find yourself immediately confronted by a teacher pointing out the words “What I did on my summer holiday” (or “summer vacation”) on the blackboard?
Fresh-faced kids who’ve gone months without school suddenly find themselves anchored back into the academic grind and instructed to concoct a creative project or write a report chronicling their summer holidays. Mine usually read something like this: “We went to the beach. We ate some ice cream. We helped Jason and the Argonauts fight Talos and the skeleton army.” Sadly, references to Ray Harryhausen movies rarely get rewarded with extra marks or ‘star turn!’ stickers.
