Golden Globe Award-winning actor Kevin Bacon has set his next horror movie after starring in the smash-hit A24 slasher MaXXXine, and it's about to be an entire family affair. Bacon, his Emmy Award-winning wife Kyra Sedgwick, and their two adult children, Travis and Sosie Bacon, will star together in a new horror-comedy titled Family Movie.

The talented family will produce this film for Mixed Breed Films in collaboration with Norman Golightly at Dark Castle Entertainment. Dark Castle is best known for being behind other horror movies such as House on Haunted Hill, House of Wax, Orphan and Orphan: First Kill. Besides Family Movie, Dark Castle is currently working on a third Orphan movie.

Neon International will handle the foreign rights and present the horror-comedy at the American Film Market this week, while CAA Media Finance will manage the U.S. rights. Besides producing and starring in the movie, Bacon and Sedgwick will also direct.

The last time Elliot Page appeared in a film, it was literally a car crash. Page, who was nominated for an Oscar at the age of 20 for the teen-pregnancy comedy Juno, was starring in a remake of the Julia Roberts thriller Flatliners, playing one of a group of medical students who engineer near-death experiences to get a peek at the afterlife. His co-stars included James Norton, Diego Luna and Kiersey Clemons, but during a hazardous driving scene it was only Page and Clemons who were not given seatbelts. Stunt coordinators told them: “You’ll be fine.”

Instead, they were traumatised. In his 2023 memoir Pageboy, the Canadian actor describes the shoot as “a shitshow”. It wasn’t merely the cavalier regard for his safety.

Back in 1990, director Joel Schumacher teamed with screenwriter Peter Filardi to bring us the psychological horror film Flatliners, a movie that was memorable enough to receive a forgettable reboot in 2017. Filardi recently regained the rights to his original screenplay – and Deadline reports that he has given author J.D. Barker the chance to write a novel called Flatliners Resurrection, which is based on Filardi’s script but puts a new twist on the concept.

The film has the following synopsis: Seeking answers about the afterlife, Chicago medical student Nelson persuades his fellow pupils to help him end his life, and then resuscitate him in the nick of time. Atheist David, playboy Joe, and troubled Rachel also journey into the unknown, looking for meaning in their own lives. As the experiments become more perilous, each is forced to contend with the paranormal consequences of trespassing on the other side.

In the wake of the original 1990 movie and the largely forgotten 2017 remake, the Flatliners saga will continue with Flatliners Resurrection, a new novel that’s currently in the works.

According to Deadline’s exclusive report this morning, the upcoming novel will be penned by J.D. Barker (Dracul), and it puts a fresh twist on the original Flatliners screenplay.

Deadline explains, “The original [movie] was released by Columbia, but Barker said that scribe Peter Filardi got back the rights to his original script, and the author swayed the scribe with a twist to the original tale that takes the reanimation tale down a different road than the original or a later remake. The novel is based on that script, not the movie, and Intellectual Property Group’s Joel Gotler will broker both the publishing and screen rights.”

“We’re thrilled to have J.D. Barker on board for this project,” said Filardi.

Kevin Bacon is no stranger to the horror genre, having starred in hits like the original Friday the 13th, Tremors, Flatliners, and most recently, MaXXXine, the upcoming third film in Ti West's X trilogy. He counts himself as a fan of the genre and recently revealed to Film Updates that one of his favorite horror movies is the cult Japanese film Audition from director Takashi Miike, based on Ryu Murakami's 1997 novel of the same name.

Kevin Bacon has been in a good number of horror films over the decades, and he has admitted that he’s drawn to working in the genre because he’s a horror fan himself. Now it has been revealed that he and his wife Kyra Sedgwick are such big fans of the genre that they’re planning to co-direct and star in a horror film – and they’ve cast their daughter Sosie Bacon, who starred in the horror hit Smile, as a co-star!

Variety caught up with Sedgwick to interview her about her role in the Off Broadway play All of Me, and along the way they mentioned that she’s currently developing “a horror film she would star in with Bacon and their adult daughter, Sosie. The couple wants to co-direct the film, though the Directors Guild has other ideas.“

The year 1990 was a pretty decent time for a trip to the movies, especially if you’re a self confessed gore-hound, like yours truly. There’s nothing better than sitting down in a packed movie theater, or even at home with the pet cat or a similarly cherished human, to watch some carnage on the screen. Tom Savini’s Night of the Living Dead was a fun remake of the 1968 classic, while we also got the likes of It, Tremors, Child’s Play 2, Gremlins 2, Predator 2 (there’s a theme forming here…) Killer Crocodile 2. After a year-and-a-half of copyright drama, The People’s Joker is finally here. The daring mixture of both tones and form will be sure to impress anyone, even those without a lick of investment in the DC subject matter it is both lampooning and serenading. I was lucky enough to have an extensive chat with writer-director-star Vera Drew about the film’s conception, ideas, and the general state of comic-book cinema.

I am of that age that still thinks the 80s was 30 years ago and that the 90s just happened. Strange as that logic is, there’s nothing like movie anniversaries to pull me back into reality. Last episode we looked at In the Mouth of Madness and its impact now going strong 30 years later. That flick though, like most of John Carpenter’s catalogue, was something that was already out when I started my movie journey. I had already seen it on VHS and on TV from time to time which puts it in another category altogether. Move ahead just 5 short years to 1999, one of the greatest years in cinema history, and we start getting that 25 years of existence that puts that nice existential crisis right into my gut. Today we are going to look at one of those movies that probably isn’t considered a traditional horror movie but is absolutely horrific in nature.

The beloved procedural crime show "Bones" ran for an impressive 12 seasons, continuing the upward TV star trajectory for David Boreanaz after his work on shows like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel," and helping to launch Emily Deschanel to become a household name after a slew of small roles in a handful of TV shows and movies.

As the co-stars of "Bones," Deschanel and Boreanaz naturally appeared in every single episode of the series. And while viewers know guest stars didn't pop up nearly as frequently, some casual watchers may think that some of the more familiar faces might have at least popped up one time per season. But as it turns out, out of all of the guest stars who graced the series from 2005-2017, only one performer managed to make at least one appearance across all 12 seasons: Patricia Belcher, who played Caroline Julian, a federal prosecutor for the U.

Since then she has appeared in the sequel to that movie, Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love, performed in Chicago and Waitress on Broadway, had roles in the film Harriet and the TV series Underground, and appeared on multiple episodes of the HBO show The Righteous Gemstones… which happens to be executive produced by David Gordon Green, so that paved the way for her to have a role in Green’s most recent film, The Exorcist: Believer. Now Deadline reports that Nettles is following her Exorcist role by being cast in another genre project: the horror action series The Bondsman!

The Exorcist: Believer actor Jennifer Nettles has been cast in Blumhouse TV’s “The Bondsman,” an action horror series for Amazon’s Prime Video. Deadline reported today that Nettles will star opposite Kevin Bacon as his character’s ex-wife.

The action horror series “centers on Hub Halloran (Kevin Bacon), a backwoods bounty hunter who comes back from the dead with an unexpected second chance at life, love, and a nearly-forgotten musical career — only to find that his old job now has a demonic new twist.”

Jennifer Nettles will play Hub Halloran’s ex-wife, Maryanne. The actor most recently appeared in Blumhouse’s The Exorcist: Believer as Miranda West, the religious mother of possessed child Katherine (Olivia O’Neill).

Justin Lin may be the foremost director of the "Fast and Furious" franchise, but he's taking a break from the Hollywood big leagues for his next film: an indie movie about the misguided missionary John Allen Chau. Before helming half of the entries in one of the most successful blockbuster series in modern times, Lin directed indie movies that centered on the Asian-American communities of Southern California, including the quirky comedy "Shopping for Fangs" and the Sundance Grand Jury Prize-nominated "Better Luck Tomorrow."

The original Paramount horror movie debuted at #1 at the box office this weekend. And for good reason – it’s really scary! “Smile,” from writer/director Parker Finn, follows a young doctor named Rose (Sosie Bacon), who uncovers an insidious curse after one of her patients murders herself in front of Rose.

“Smile” recently had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest, an international film festival in Austin, Texas that specializes in genre movies. Known for its raucous crowds, Bacon told TheWrap what that first screening was like.

Composer Nathan Barr isn’t a name an ordinary person would recognize, but scour his resume and one is bound to find a television show (True Blood, The Americans) or movie (Grindhouse, Hostel) they’ve obsessed over. Now, Barr is taking his talents to Flatliners, the modern remake of the 1990 sci-fi psychological horror film toplined by Kiefer Sutherland, Julia Roberts and Kevin Bacon.

But Barr, who grew up in Tokyo with musical parents and spent much of his career scoring horror films, credits his experience on True Blood, in which he served as head composer for its entire seven-season run, as his breakthrough moment.

“Ever since True Blood, things started to take off,” the 44-year-old industry vet tells Et. “As composers and in many facets of filmmaking, you always need that one person who endorses us and the phone starts ringing. When [creator] Alan Ball hired me on True Blood, that was one of those moments.”

Monday Am: It’s hard to remember when we last had a fierce weekend at the box office, but it’s going down like the 2000 presidential election recount in Florida. “Liar” is a word that rival distribution heads are using to refer to one another as in the past 24 hours. Distributors have submitted their early-morning estimates, and they show that 20th Century/Marv’s Kingsman: The Golden Circle is leading with $16.975M, followed by New Line/Warner Bros.’ It in second with $16.93M.

Universal/Cross Creek’s Tom Cruise movie American Made is third with $16.758M, per the studio’s own early Am figures.

While industry estimates showed It leading yesterday morning, there was word that Kingsman had the lesser Sunday drop, and in fact it did, down 41% with $4.495M from Saturday. It declined 47% on Sunday with $4.1M from Saturday’s $7.83M.

There’s certain to be some more squabbling...

Danish director Niels Arden Oplev is still best known for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (what, you mean you don’t remember Dead Man Down?), and he brings the same flat, TV movie aesthetic to this “sequel” to Joel Schumacher’s 1990 sci-horror. The original’s high concept plot is retained and given a 21st century makeover – although it’s still as hokey and dumb as Schumacher’s film, and once again fails to capitalise on its central conceit.

The premise of Flatliners is that a young med student, Courtney (Ellen Page), comes up with the bright idea of having her heart stopped, then started again, under controlled conditions. She employs the help of a group of fellow students, who see the experiment as a shortcut to bountiful medical careers.

If only its irony were the most painful thing about “Flatliners,” an artless and agonizingly boring remake of a semi-forgotten movie about the dangers of bringing things back from the dead. Lazily recycling the ’90s schlocky Joel Schumacher thriller of the same name (once a staple of video store shelves everywhere), this lifeless new version hits all the same beats as the original, but does so without a speck of the baroque style that made it such a fun thing to rent on a Friday night. This weekend brings the remake of “Flatliners,” Joel Schumacher’s 1990 thriller that starred Julia Roberts. Reviews are universally terrible for this retread of good-looking med-school students who put life-after-death on repeat, but it was a nail-biter for studio Sony Pictures from the outset: They took the risk of making an honest-to-god remake.

You can probably think of all the best and worst puns that we could load into this review without even seeing Flatliners. So, with apologies in advance, there's no better way to describe Niels Arden Oplev's mis-sold remake than this - it just lies there on the slab.

1990's Flatliners is a sci-fi inflected psychological horror, directed by Joel Schumacher and boasting an all-star cast. Cinema is once again mining its recent past for hits. Joel Schumacher’s 1990 medic-goth thriller Flatliners is the latest cult classic to be remade for a contemporary audience. Almost three decades on, the original – in which a group of medical students deliberately kill and then revive themselves in order to report back on the afterlife – resembles in parts a crossover episode between Buffy and Holby City. But in the shiny 2017 sequel, the gritty, steamy streets have been replaced by brightly lit high-rises, its rudimentary computers have been given an upgrade, and the astonishing amount of angular yet floppy hair sported by Kiefer Sutherland, Kevin Bacon and Billy Baldwin has been closely cropped for more austere times.

Nina Dobrev has a bangin' new 'do!

Et caught up with the 28-year-old actress at the premiere of her new movie, Flatliners, in Los Angeles on Wednesday, where she revealed the reason behind her chic beauty makeover.

Dobrev told Et's Ashley Crossan that she chopped her locks "about two hours" before our red carpet interview.

"It's for a new movie that I'm doing," she explained. "It's a movie called Lucky Day and I play a Parisian woman who's an artist. They wanted me to cut my hair and... I don't know. I couldn't have been more excited to do it."
