"Dune: Part Two" remains one of the best blockbusters of the year, a brilliant piece of filmmaking about religion, revenge, and big worms. As good as the movie is, however, it leaves out a lot of the worldbuilding and context that makes the source material by Frank Herbert so special, such as the exact reason why the spice is so important to controlling the universe, how the Bene Gesserit gained so much power and influence, and what exactly mentats do.
That's where "Dune: Prophecy" comes in. Previously titled "Dune: The Sisterhood," the HBO prequel series is set 10,000 years before the events of Herbert's original novel, telling the story of how the Bene Gesserit order was created in the aftermath of the Butlerian Jihad (in which "thinking machines" were wiped out and banned). Given just how absurdly long the time gap between the series and the "Dune" movies is, there is...

Five years after Max (then HBO Max) ordered a Dune prequel series, the streamer has shared a first-look teaser for the show, titled Dune: Prophecy. Slated for a fall premiere, the series’ first season consists of six episodes, which is on the low end for an original scripted series. Its teaser was unveiled during the Warner Bros. Discovery upfront presentation Wednesday by Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content.
From the expansive universe of Dune, created by author Frank Herbert, and set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy (fka Dune: The Sisterhood) is inspired by the novel Sisterhood Of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. It follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit.
“Sisterhood above all,” Emily Watson’s Valya Harkonnen says in the teaser.

The “Barbie” Oscar campaign doesn’t need much of a boost at this point following nine Golden Globe nominations and a record-breaking 18 Critics Choice Award nominations, but it certainly got one when the cast of “The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” reunited to support America Ferrara’s supporting role in the blockbuster comedy. Ferrara starred in the 2005 film and its 2008 sequel with Blake Lively, Amber Tamblyn and Alexis Bledel. The four women have remained close friends ever since and all showed up for a recent “Barbie” Q&a.
“The Sisterhood came through all in pink to celebrate my performance in ‘Barbie’ last night,” Ferrara wrote on Instagram. “I love these women with all my heart.”
Ferrara stars in “Barbie” as Gloria, a Mattel worker who befriends Margot Robbie’s doll and helps her restore Barbie Land back from Ken’s patriarchy. Ferrera has become an Oscar contender for best supporting...

Exclusive: Max’s Dune prequel series Dune: The Sisterhood is set to relaunch production in Budapest “any day now” and will continue throughout the course of the WGA and SAG strikes, a source close to the show tells Deadline.
The series thus takes the path of House of the Dragon and Industry, given that, like those HBO titles, which we reported on earlier in the day, The Sisterhood is an Equity contract production with some from SAG-AFTRA also in the mix. And per guidance from the actors guild stateside, members working under Equity contracts are to “continue to report.”
The Sisterhood resumes production following a November launch, leading into a hiatus that always was planned, our source tells us, to get around winter conditions in Hungary. The show also notably lost director Johan Renck, creator and pilot writer Diane Ademu-John (as co-showrunner) and stars Shirley Henderson and Indira Varma earlier this year,...

The 16th edition of Beldocs Intl. Documentary Film Festival has awarded its top prizes to “ThIIIrd,” from Lebanese helmer Karim Kassim, in the International Competition Program, and Tijana Petrović’s “A Field Guide to Coastal Fortifications” in the Serbian competition program.
“ThIIIrd” is set in an auto repair shop in Lebanon, which is a haven for people to express their growing despair amidst the economic collapse that surrounds them.
Fest was generally applauded for strong competition selections that, according to the event’s programmer Igor Stanojević, put a special focus on visually striking films and fresh expressions by new authors with around 100 films across 12 programs, including nine world premieres, and a notable presence of female directors.
In the Serbian Competition, Luka Papić and Srđa Vučo’s doc “Invoked” scooped the award for best editing while “Aurora’s Dream” from director Dragana Jovanović picked up the prize for best cinematography.

HBO Max’s “Dune” prequel spinoff “The Sisterhood” is going through some changes. Both director Johan Renck and star Shirley Henderson have exited the HBO Max series, Variety has confirmed.
The news comes as the production takes a “pre-scheduled hiatus,” according to the streamer.
“There are some creative changes being made to the production in an effort to create the best series possible and stay true to the source material,” a HBO Max representative said in a statement. “Johan Renck has completed his work on the series and a new director will be brought on; through mutual agreement Johan is moving on to pursue other projects. Additionally, Shirley Henderson will be exiting the series and will no longer be playing Tula Harkonnen.”
These aren’t the first departures to hit the production. In November of last year, series creator Diane Ademu-John parted ways with “The Sisterhood” as co-showrunner. However, she...

HBO Max’s return to Arrakis is taking a bit of a setback. The “Dune” prequel series has lost both its director and one of its stars, IndieWire has confirmed. This news does not in any way affect the release of Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” this fall.
Johan Renck, who was set to direct the first two episodes of the show, and Shirley Henderson, who was set to play one of the leads, have both exited the series following the beginning of production in November. Production on the series, currently under the working title “Dune: The Sisterhood,” has reportedly been put on hold until replacements for both are found. A statement from HBO Max attributed the change to an “effort to create the best series possible.”

HBO Max’s “Dune” prequel series, currently known as “Dune: The Sisterhood” is undergoing further “creative changes” as director Johan Renck and star Shirley Henderson have departed the project, TheWrap has learned. That said, “Loud Love” takes the opportunity to send the story in another direction without losing sight of the big picture, Vanessa and Scarlett’s journey to halt the vampire apocalypse. And despite the ever present terror, danger, and loss experienced by the survivors, the power of love resurfaces after lying dormant for what seems like forever. Van Helsing Season 3 Episode 7
“Start fighting, assholes, or you’re all going to die.”
Lest we forget for a moment the brutality inherent in any apocalyptic event, writer/showrunner Neil Labute makes absolutely certain we remember the terrifying reality our heroes face on a daily basis. From the opening sequence at a gathering of the Sisterhood, “Hunted Down” takes violent behavior and gruesome imagery to levels Van Helsing has only hinted at previously, but it does so with a purpose. It’s easy to become complacent at the often surgical precision with which Vanessa and Scarlett dispense of the current crop of vampires, but tonight we’re reminded that vampire killing is an ugly business and not everyone faced with that prospect bears the Van Helsing name.
