Beautiful French actress Florence Guerin was the flavor of the mid-80s over quite a number of otherwise forgettable movies and it is easy to see why: she was attractive, sensuous, and fearlessly willing to dare any risk. Unfortunately, the films she found herself in tended to push the boundaries of good taste more often than they challenged the mind. This trashy little piece is fairly typical. Here, Guerin plays the wife of a man obsessed with sexual game playing and wants out. This leads to a succession of escapades with other men. Thus the direction of her life proves harder to escape, even if she manages to get away from her primary antagonist. There is perhaps a point to be made here about the unavoidable sensual destiny faced by any highly desirable woman, but it gets lost in the general trashiness of the movie's succession of encounters. The production has a nice sense of place and some good looking set pieces, at least early on, but the eye candy does not matter after a while, especially since the DVD seems to have been mastered from a VHS, giving a cheap overall look.
Avoid, or at least approach with caution.
