Famous film producer Prakash Mehra's financer, Satyen Pal Chaudhary from Meerut, decided to make a film on his novel Dhadkan and invited him to Mumbai. He denied, but gave permission for the film since the film was being directed by Basu Chatterjee whom he highly admired. Chatterjee came to Meerut and narrated him the screenplay.[3] The feature film Chameli Ki Shaadi with Anil Kapoor in the lead role was made based on his novel and is often broadcast on TV channels. Sharma later stated he was upset with the film as Basu changed alot of stuff from the original story.
Director Basu Chatterji and composers Kalyanji- Anandji had worked toghether for only this film.
Prakash Mehra had produced this film for his office staff.
It was a priviledge for Anil Kapoor in his early time of his carear to enter the camp of Amitabh Bachchan. Later Anil Kapoor worked with the same producer in Zindagi Ek Jua.
The media stated that Prakash Mehra only signed Anil Kapoor for the film to counter arch rival Manmohan Desai. Desai had signed Jackie for Allah Rakka and Mehra wanted to show Manmohan Desai he too could sign a new hot newcomer.
