David Ogden Stiers plays the conductor of the symphony orchestra where Richard plays violin. Stiers has worked as a guest conductor with real-life symphony orchestras.

Due to limited marketing, the film was not a big hit at the box office. Because of this, no soundtrack album was released at the time. However, in 2018, after 33 years of requests - a third of a century - a limited special edition soundtrack CD was released. It contained 18 tracks plus a 20-page booklet.
The music played by the orchestra (when the conductor scolds Drew for interrupting with his own composition) is from Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov. Random phrases of Scheherazade also appear during the "tuning up" section of the opening score.
