One of the more unusual creative choices made for Roland Emmerich's 1998 film "Godzilla" was to make it into, essentially, a comedy. In its structure, "Godzilla" is a straight-up adventure blockbuster, replete with the trappings of city-sized destruction and international mayhem that Emmerich typically handles with such aplomb. In its tone, however, "Godzilla" is light and breezy, and focuses on the human character Nick Tatopoulos (Matthew Broderick) and his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, the aspiring reporter Audrey (Maria Pitillo). Audrey feels stymied in her career by a lascivious, egotistical boss Charles Caiman (Harry Shearer) who implies that he'll give her a promotion in exchange for sexual favors. One might also notice that Caiman's secretary is played by actress Nancy Cartwright.
Insulted and disgusted by Charles, Audrey instead takes to the streets of New York with her cameraman Animal (Hank Azaria) hoping to catch footage of the rampaging iguana monster stalking the streets.

Alanis Morissette has made her first-ever appearance on Austin City Limits, and it’s an exciting one! The upcoming hour-long set features many fan favorites, including eight cuts from her landmark album Jagged Little Pill. In anticipation, Consequence has an exclusive preview of her performance of the hit “You Oughta Know,” which you can watch below.
The singer sounds just as intense as she did when the song was released nearly 30 years ago. Morissette wrings every bit of rage from the track in a truly electrifying performance. “You Oughta Know” initially made waves for its pointed lyrics, and they remain just as powerful here. The song is roaring and raucous, and she propels it forward with driving on-stage radiance.
Morissette’s debut on Austin City Limits is set to premiere in full on Saturday, February 17th at 8:00 p.m. Et on PBS. It will be available to stream immediately following the initial broadcast.

Premiering on Feb. 14, 1992, Wayne’s World was a Valentine’s Day gift to heavy metal music. Starring Mike Myers as lo-fi cable host Wayne Campbell and Dana Carvey as his best friend/chimp/“with you as always” Garth Algar, the film followed in the tradition of The Blues Brothers, a Saturday Night Live skit that became a big screen buddy movie which had that box office “schwing.” Both films highlighted a particular music genre, and each brought on experts in the sonic reality.
Penelope Spheeris directed the cult punk rock/heavy metal masterpiece documentary film series The Decline of Western Civilization, and turned down the heavy metal satire This Is Spinal Tap because it wasn’t headbanging enough. She’d also caught the dark side of punk squatter slacking in the 1984 coming of age drama Suburbia. In directing Wayne’s World, Spheeris captures the subtle tension between a metal-head’s manic persona...

It's ten-to-one and SNL has one sketch left in the tank. Here's a look at the weird and weirdly brilliant segments that made it onto TV.
Saturday Night Live has a pretty basic structure from show to show. You have the cold open, the opening credits, the host monologue, a few sketches, the musical guest, Weekend Update, some more sketches, maybe another musical performance mixed in there, and the ending credits. It’s worked for them for decades and will work for them for decades to come.
One of the more volatile parts of the show is the final sketch. Airing after the second musical performance and coming sometime in-between 12:50 to 12:55, you’re going to get one sketch that is going to be a crapshoot. Not only in whether it’s going to be funny, but whether it’s going to be coherent. It’s the scraps of the writers,...

Fans of Tina Turner know all about her quaint upbringing in a small Tennessee town called Nutbush. In fact, that small town is the inspiration for “Nutbush City Limits.” Now, that small upbringing has not only been immortalized in song, but also in the preservation Turner’s childhood schoolhouse. The one-room schoolhouse Turner grew up in has been restored and turned into the Tina Turner Museum at Flagg Grove School. According to ABC News, more than 100 people came to the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the museum, located on the grounds of Brownsville, Tn’s West Tennessee Delta Heritage Center. Fans in attendance came as far away as the Netherlands, Sweden and Germany. [ Read More ]

My friend Peter Richardson, who has died of cancer aged 51, was a graphic artist with a special talent for typography. Peter's designs were always elegant and considered, with a sensitive use of colour. His collage-based illustrations combined simple drawings, text and photographic elements. These varied design skills lent themselves well to animation, in particular the creation of TV titles and motion graphics, where Peter made his career.

As if it isn’t enough that fans of Arrow occasionally get to see Stephen Amell (‘Oliver Queen’) engage in partial nudity, now they have three more scantily clad reasons to tune in.
The CW just released a second set of promo posters for season 2 of Arrow that feature pretty much the entire male cast looking very topless, and very ripped. I don’t remember hearing that it was a requirement for being cast on the show, but that definitely seems to be the case if we can consider these posters as evidence.
Amell, along with co-stars David Ramsey (‘Diggle’), Colton Haynes (‘Roy Harper’), and Manu Bennett (‘Slade Wilson’) are showing off a different kind of talent when they strip down for your enjoyment – and hopefully there are no complaints. Although fans of Arrow have other excuses for watching, it doesn’t hurt to add a few more in the off-season.

As March nears an end, it will be noted for losing three horror novelists:
From Locus:
Writer and editor David B. Silva, 62, died in early March, 2013.
Silva is best known for editing influential magazine The Horror Show, which ran from 1982-1991 . Silva won a World Fantasy Award in 1988 in the special, non-professional category for his work on the magazine. He also edited anthologies, including Post Mortem: New Tales of Ghostly Horror (1989) and Dead End: City Limits (1991), both with Paul F. Olson, as well as books collecting the best work from The Horror Show. From 1997-2002 he and Olson co-edited industry newsletter Hellnotes, for horror professionals and fans. In 2004, the newsletter was revived as a website.

One thing we can and should all agree on: Naya Rivera is the best part of Glee this season. Look what she did with “Nutbush City Limits.” And “Girl on Fire.” And “Mine.” And Santana is still the best bitch-slapper on the show. In Thursday’s new episode of Glee, she puts that bitch-slappery to song, dedicating Paula Abdul’s “Cold Hearted” to the talcumy hairless boy wonder Brody. Watch Vulture’s exclusive video of the performance below. It features fishnets and scaffolding, good for writhing around. You're welcome.

Don’t say “diva” like it’s a dirty word. I mean, if living legend Aretha Franklin was more than happy to be front and center for VH1′s “Divas Live” extravaganza, then who are the rest of us to treat it like a common four-letter word, right?
Okay, so diva-dom might also be about milquetoast Emma Pillsbury reducing Cheesecake Factory managers to tears, and Rachel Berry’s runaway ego stomping around New York City like King Kong after an expensive blowout at the salon. It could even prompt Tina Cohen-Chang to withhold her “soup” from an ailing Blaine Anderson.

Around a week or two ago we pointed you in the direction of the San Diego Reader to check out some unused artwork for The Fly, Vamp, and Fright Night. Now blogger Jay Allen Sanford is back with more.
Below you'll find rejected artwork for the classic horror flicks Deadly Friend, Trick or Treat, and Near Dark. Some of these are way cooler than the crap we ended up getting instead.
Click the link below to head on over to see the rest, which includes Campus Man, Vanishing Act, China Girl, 8 Million Ways to Die, City Limits, Hamburger Hill and many more!
Deadly Friend
Trick or Treat
Near Dark
