A talented actress ,Christine Pascal tried her hand at directing in the late seventies with the much-debated "Félicité " ;she got close for honors with her excellent "le petit prince a dit"(1992)which was awarded the Louis Delluc prize and featured an unexpected (and daring) ending.
"La garce" (=the b......) ,featuring the same actor ,Richard Berry ,has not worn well ,bearing all the scars of the worst eighties French cinema :aggressive music - with the exception of Birkin's song, which has absolutely nothing to do here-, flashy pictures, over-obliging rape scene ,actors left to their own devices .The story is complicated ,not complex ; Huppert plays three "different" women from the young girl to the sophisticated lady ,but don't expect "vertigo" ;Berry ,an ex-cop, became a private eye after a six years sentence and is still fascinated by his victim(??) , now and then lover of Max ,the head of a Parisian mafia who exploits the immigrant workers .
Miss Pascal committed suicide in 1996. She's best remembered for her 1992 peak :watch it!
