Writer and director James Toback played Leo Boscovitch, a professor of literature, in this movie. He played another professor in Alice (1990). Also, Toback portrayed Professor Hassan Al-Ibrahim Ben Rabinowitz in When Will I Be Loved (2004).

The poem that was mentioned was "The Clock of the Years" (1981) by William Carlos Williams.

The song that Nastassja Kinski danced to in her extensive erotic solo apache dance sequence was "The Shoop Shoop Song" sung by Betty Everett.

Movie posters for this picture were designed in the form of a strip of celluloid, most of it white, evoking the film being "exposed", with the part of it not, featuring Nastassja Kinski, the two sections separated by a tearaway burn mark.
