Jack Shannon, a New York cop who after the death of his wife decides to move to San Francisco so that his wife's parents can help him with his son. So he asks one of his friends to help him get a job there and upon arriving, his superior officer, Lt. Moraga doesn't exactly welcome him with open cause he doesn't like the fact that Shannon got his job through contacts rather than working for it. However, there's a problem with the last case he handled in New York, so he goes back to try and sort it out.

Shannon learns his deceased wife's father is in trouble with loan sharks after borrowing money. Shannon must figure out how to keep his father-in-law out of trouble while bringing down the criminals.

Shannon must try to work around the law when a man who threatened his family can't be arrested until he commits a crime.

Jack joins forces with a female detective to solve a series of rapes. But the policewoman resents his helps and Jack must figure out why.

Jack is on an arson case and learns his chief suspect is a rival from his childhood, now a low level gangster.

Jack and,his partner,are investigating an important bank robbery case but the partner's personal problems start interfering with his police work.
