A movie theater complete with the ability to recreate fairytales forms the gimmick of Tales of the Night. What happens onstage is both charming and artistic, especially in the method that the whole movie is portrayed. A movie theater is equipped with high tech equipment that allows a boy, girl, and older gentleman to stage any tale they want to. Over the course of an evening they put on: Night of the Werewolf: An imprisoned prince was inspired by gifts from a princess, when he reveals his secret to his new bride he discovers that maybe it was her sister who really loves him. Jon Jon and the Beauty not Knowing: A clever boy ventures into the...

It has been a little over a year since Paul Naschy, the beloved King of Spanish Horror, passed away at the age of 75, and so we thought it would be appropriate to look back at two of Naschy’s films—The Night Of The Werewolf (his ninth turn as Polish nobleman-turned-werewolf Waldemar Daninsky) and Vengeance Of The Zombies—that Don Kaye reviewed on DVD back in 2007.

Spanish actor Paul Naschy was a leading star in horror films for forty years from the late 1960s. He was best known for his role as the tragic werewolf, Waldemar Daninsky, which he originated in the 1968 film La Marca del Hombre Lobo (Mark of the Wolfman) from his own script. Though the film pitted Daninsky against a pair of vampires, the movie was oddly retitled Frankenstein’s Bloody Terror when it was released in the United States. He went on to play the werewolf in nearly a dozen subsequent films, many that he also co-scripted under his real name, Jacinto Molina.
Naschy was born Jacinto Alvarez Molina in Madrid on September 6, 1934. He began working in films as an extra in the 1961 biblical feature King of Kings. He appeared in small roles in a handful of films in the 1960s before creating the role of the werewolf Daninsky.

Self-taught artist Wes Benscoter began his professional career as an illustrator in 1992 with a series of airbrushed heavy metal album covers for the German record label Nuclear Blast. His images of the grotesque and the macabre quickly established him as one of the preeminent death metal artists and soon began to attract the attention of other musical genres and mainstream bands including AC/DC, Motley Crue, and The Offspring.
His “horror and skull imagery” soon caught the eye of leading thrash metal band Slayer, who commissioned Wes to do the cover art to their next record “Divine Intervention” as well as all their album, video and merchandise artwork for the next 3 years.
In 1996, Wes's catalog of death metal cover art, specifically the Relapse Records bands like Mortician and Deceased, appealed to the psychos at Ng Gallery in Tokyo, who brought him to Japan for a series of gallery exhibitions. He...
