Due to Video Gems' US release with the title "Fist of Fury II" on the box art, there has been frequent confusion as which film, this or Fist of Fury II (1977), is really the first sequel to the original Fist of Fury (1972) (aka Fist of Fury). Despite Video Gems wrongly calling the film "Fist of Fury II" on the box art, the title card in the film itself read "The Fist of Fury."
