I’ve always felt that the 1979 horror film Tourist Trap (watch it Here) deserves a lot more respect and attention than it gets – and that star Chuck Connors (best known for The Rifleman) deserved the “genre icon” career he was aiming for when he signed on for the movie. Barbara Crampton is someone who did achieve a genre icon career, and she clearly believes there was something great going on with Tourist Trap, because our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that she is producing a remake of the film!
Crampton is the Vice President of Production & Development at Alliance Media Partners, and the company has just acquired the rights to make a new version of Tourist Trap. Crampton will be producing the film alongside Bob Portal, who is Amp’s Managing Director & Head of Production.
Produced by Full Moon founder Charles Band, the original Tourist Trap stars Connors as Mr.

Every year, hundreds of young people travel the country… and disappear. 45 years after the release of cult classic Tourist Trap, Bloody Disgusting has exclusively learned this weekend that horror legend Barbara Crampton will be producing an upcoming remake of the 1979 horror movie!
Alliance Media Partners has acquired the rights to Tourist Trap, and Crampton, the company’s Vice President of Production & Development, will be producing the new take on the classic.
Crampton is producing with Bob Portal, Managing Director & Head of Production at Amp.
The original Tourist Trap was directed by David Schmoeller.
In the film, “A group of young friends stranded at a secluded roadside museum are stalked by a masked assailant who uses his telekinetic powers to control the attraction’s mannequins.”

The PG-13 rating, at least for horror, often induces derision or skepticism, like an instant shackle on the horror. A PG-13 rating broadcasts straightaway not to expect any excessive gore, violence, or any of the explicit fun stuff that tends to be horror’s bread and butter. But those things aren’t synonymous with horror’s true aim, which is to scare you silly.
Luckily, PG-13 horror has proven time and time again throughout the decades that it’s more than capable of inducing chills. Especially when it comes to the supernatural.
This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to PG-13 horror movies that bring the terror through ghostly jump scares, ominous atmosphere, and more. That the PG-13 rating means they also double as potential gateway horror for the budding monster kid is a bonus.

Copycat movies have been a thing forever. You can look at the broader scope and consider that most slasher movies became copycat in one way or another. A supernatural killer, excessive gore and nudity, and even the high body counts. That style of horror movies could become a dime a dozen. Twin films are similar, but they are made at roughly the same time and actually trying to release first to beat the other to market so as to not be seen as an attempted clone of the other studios idea. Boiling it down even further, some copycats go beyond just the themes and even try to take direct elements from the previous movie that made money.

We are still in the heat of summer, and that means there’s still some time for the pool, camping, and leisurely road trips across the country. If you’re inclined to take to the open road, may I suggest sticking to major highways and leaving dusty backroads alone. You don’t wanna end up like the kids in either David Schmoeller’s Tourist Trap or Jaume Collet-Serra’s House of Wax (2005). You’re smarter than that. Sure, there’s a compelling case to be made for swapping out hardtop for gravel and dirt. Perhaps you want to witness relics of the past for yourself – abandoned towns and roadside barbeque pits, or even the scarce side-show attraction (if those still even exist). But don’t be a fool. If there’s anything to be learned here, it’s that disaster awaits around the next bend.

Don’t believe anything you read. Hocus Pocus is a damn good movie. From its opening frame, the 1993 film contains all the magic and wonder you could want from a gateway horror movie – earning its place next to other ‘90s essentials like Halloweentown. It’s got a talking black cat, spooky spellcasting, a zombie, and three children-eating witches – oh my! Released in the height of summer (July 12), the Kenny Ortega-directed feature hasn’t lost its allure. In fact, its legacy is as strong as ever. It’s still an extraordinarily fun picture 30 years later.
Hocus Pocus endures because of nostalgia. In the era of TV reboots, remakes, and requels, millennials yearn for their childhood and a simpler time. There’s a reason we got a completely unnecessary sequel last fall. But more importantly, Hocus Pocus defines an entire generation of horror fans. For many, it was their very first spooky movie.

Counting all sequels, prequels, spin-offs, crossovers, and even a Fangoria reboot, there are over a dozen entries in the Puppet Master franchise. Which can make the idea of diving into it rather intimidating. Especially since some of the films don’t have a stellar reputation. But while the series has ups and downs, there are some great entries. And its legion of living puppets – which can be villains or heroes, depending on who’s pulling their strings – are characters you have to see in action. It’s time for a new episode of the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series, and in this one we’re looking back at a movie I have a great deal of fondness for, the 1979 Charles Band production Tourist Trap (watch it Here)! To find out why we think you should check out Tourist Trap, take a look at the video embedded above.
Directed by David Schmoeller, who also wrote the screenplay with J. Larry Carroll, Tourist Trap stars Chuck Connors as Mr. Slausen, a telekinetic psychopath who lures a group of young people to his ramshackle roadside attraction, unleashing an army of psychically controlled mannequins and other monstrosities upon them. As the terrified youths fight for their lives, secrets are revealed and shock follows shock until the movie reaches its nightmarish, unforgettable finale.

"I Know What You Did Last Summer" almost worked as a phantom wave for the neo-slasher genre, hitting theaters in the wake of Wes Craven's game changer "Scream," and sneaking in just a couple of months before "Scream 2" in October of 1997. Spawning an inferior sequel, a third entry called "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer" with an entirely new cast, and a recently canceled Prime Video series, the original film has stayed surprisingly relevant. Now, a legacy sequel is on the way with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. in talks to return. Once again, the "Last Summer" franchise is capitalizing on the resurgent success of the "Scream" series, giving genre fans even more reason to get a little nostalgic for the late '90s horror craze.

Sarah Michelle Gellar is talking about how Dolly Parton was a producer on Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
During a visit to The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, Gellar was asked about Parton being an uncredited producer on the show she starred in for seven seasons.
“Yes, little known fact, the legend Dolly Parton was a producer,” she said on the NBC late-night show. “We never saw her [but] we’d get Christmas gifts in the beginning that would have our name, and I would think, ‘She doesn’t even know who I am.’ And then one day, someone asked her about it, and she complimented the show and my performance. I was like, ‘Oh, I can die now. Dolly Parton knows who I am and thinks I’m good.'”
Sandollar Productions, which Parton started with her then-business partner Sandy Gallin, was behind the supernatural drama, alongside Mutant Enemy Productions and 20th Century Fox Television.

As prolific as Tim Burton is, the filmmaker has a sizeable list of unrealized projects that sound strange yet fascinating even for his off-kilter style. His abandoned works include an adaptation of the Richard Brautigan horror Western novel "The Hawkline Monster," the apocalyptic disaster film about giant dinosaurs aptly called "Dinosaurs Attack!," and, of course, the legendary and infamous Nicolas Cage-led, Kevin Smith-penned "Superman Lives." However, none of these match up to the levels of surreality as Burton's proposed musical adaptation of the 1953 3D mystery-horror classic "House of Wax," which would have starred none other than Michael Jackson.
This wasn't the first time someone tried re-visiting the story about a murderous museum sculptor, nor would it be the last. In fact, the 1953 version was a remake of a 1933 film called "Mystery of the Wax Museum," starring Lionel Atwill, who would later appear in "Son of Frankenstein," as well as Fay Wray,...

The 2000s were lousy with remakes, some of them good, many of them lousy. Major horror franchises from the 1980s got a makeover; subversive ‘70s horror films received a glossy new coat of paint. One of the best of these remakes – and one which has finally begun getting its due over the last decade, building a cult audience and culminating in a new special edition Blu-ray – is House of Wax from 2005. It reimagines the 1953 Vincent Price classic (itself a remake of 1933’s Mystery of the Wax Museum) for a modern audience: gorier, sexier, and considerably more twisted. I’m certainly not the first to say it, but it’s more a remake of 1979’s underrated Tourist Trap than it is of House of Wax. As a remake of Tourist Trap, it’s pretty fantastic.

Ben Hozie writes and directs Pvt Chat, a psycho-erotic drama about a New York City based online gambler named Jack (Peter Vack) who begins an obsession with a cam-girl called Scarlet (Julia Fox), which leads to different places when he runs into her in real-life on the streets.
The movie begins nicely enough, with a heart-warming scene involving masturbatory fantasies related to high-heel shoes and cigarettes, but things get a little more adult from there. Tanya Roberts died Monday night at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles after earlier in the day Roberts’ publicist revealed that he had given an incorrect statement and announced her death prematurely.
Roberts’ publicist, Mike Pingel, confirmed her death to TheWrap via statement. According to the statement, the 65-year-old’s cause of death was from a urinary tract infection that spread to her kidney, gallbladder, liver and then bloodstream.
Roberts’ domestic partner Lance O’Brien received the phone call from Cedars-Sinai Medical Center last night at their home confirming her passing. O’Brien told TMZ, Extra and The New York Times that Roberts died Monday evening.
Pingel previously told The New York Times that Roberts was hospitalized and was in grave condition after she collapsed on Christmas Eve while walking her dogs, but he did so after on Sunday giving information to many outlets that Roberts had already died. No cause of death was given,...

“A View to a Kill” and “That ’70s Show” star Tanya Roberts is still alive, her manager Tarri Markel said Monday — one day after she and publicist Mike Pingel first reported her death at age 65.
Roberts’ husband, Lance, had initially believed Tanya had died at L.A.’s Cedars Sinai hospital after being admitted on Christmas Eve, Pingel told TMZ on Monday, but was contacted by the hospital on Monday morning to inform him that she was still alive. Her exact condition is not known at this time.
Pingel, who had issued a press release that included a quote from Lance, did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment by TheWrap.
On Sunday, Roberts’ rep first told TMZ that the actress — best known for her work in the 1985 James Bond film “A View to a Kill” and the sitcom “That ’70s Show” — was walking her dog on Christmas Eve...

Warner Bros. upcoming Tim Story directed animated movie Tom and Jerry will have a spot at this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade with an animatronics float during the NBC-telecasted live event on Nov. 26, from 9Am-12noon Est.
Titled “Tourist Trap,” the float will feature smoke and other effects to spoof city life by throwing Tom into a series of wild squash-and-stretch sight gags. Among the indignities Tom endures are run-ins with a steamroller, a truck, a deceptively innocent-looking pretzel stand and a sewer gator. He’ll even inflate like a mini Parade balloon as Jerry flies above the pandemonium in a drone helicopter.
Among the showbiz appearances at Macys parade this year, Tom & Jerry joins Dreamworks Animation’s Boss Baby balloon, Nickelodeon’s Blue’s Clues float and Lifetime Network’s “Christmas in Town Square” float among others in what is a pared down event this year due to the pandemic.

Bizarre art direction and FX work by the late Robert Burns helps make this one of the creepiest of the numerous low budget chillers ground out by producer Charles Band from the late 70s to date. Band’s filmography runs a close second to Roger Corman’s during this period. A favorite of author Stephen King.

Excited for the long weekend and looking to catch up on some classic horror movies, but you’re on a budget (or maybe you just love a great deal)? Here’s a list of more than 50 different horror movies that are currently streaming for free on both the Tubi and Vudu platforms, featuring slashers, creature features, sci-fi/horror mash-ups, cult classics, and films from the likes of George A. Romero, John Carpenter, Dario Argento, David Cronenberg, and so many more talented horror greats.
The only caveat is that you have to endure some advertisements and then you’re all set with endless terror-filled entertainment choices for this Memorial Day Weekend. Also, keep in mind that this list doesn’t include all the great horror that’s currently streaming on both services, so be sure to poke around to see all the excellent other genre films they offer as well.
Happy viewing!

After the massive success of Airplane! (1980), the horror world decided to try spoofing the hand that feeds; in short order we were dealt Saturday the 14th, Student Bodies, National Lampoon’s Class Reunion, and Pandemonium (all from ’81 to ’82). Mileage may vary of course; comedy is completely subjective—you either laugh or you don’t. Needless to say, there are moments from each of these films that I find entertaining; from smiles to chuckles and sometimes even a laugh or two. But there is another film that no one seems to talk up much, and that’s Greydon Clark’s Wacko (1982). As uneven as the rest, it nevertheless boasts an impressive cast and an energy that wins you over; and now that Vinegar Syndrome has released it on a solid Blu-ray, you can enjoy every groan, titter, eye roll, and yes, laugh, in the privacy of your own home.

When I was asked to review a film from 1975 called Supercock, I immediately thought that it sounded like a film that may have starred the late adult film performer John Holmes who was known the world over for being extraordinarily, if not freakishly, well-endowed. An Internet Google search turned up Supercock – the film I was reviewing and another one that starred John Holmes, a film I only joked about even existing! The latter didn’t surprise me in the slightest and I breathed a sigh of relief that I wasn’t being asked to review that film.
Supercock is a comedic outing concerning the sport of cockfighting with a humorous script that makes as many sexual inuendoes as you can imagine, to the point of it being a one-note joke that occasionally draws guffaws, smiles, and even a few rolling eyes. It was usually double-billed with the...

1953’s House of Wax with Vincent Price cast a long shadow fairly early in the horror world; creepy Grand Guignol (in 3D no less) with a strong thread of vengeance gave us further goodies such as Tourist Trap (1979) and a recently reappraised remake in 2005. It’s not surprising then that TV would take a crack at molding its own vicious visage; what they came up with is a pilot film that executives deemed too shocking for the small screen – Chamber of Horrors (1966), a decidedly ghoulish take on necrophilia and murder mixed with breezy banter and chopped up body parts. I think the brass may have been right to send this one to the big screen.
Before you get too excited, we’re not talking Blood Feast here; it’s incredibly tame by today’s standards. No, it’s the subject matter itself which would send mom and dad into epileptic fits,...

Monday got you feeling down, readers? I can relate. And you know what is one of the things guaranteed to turn my mood around? Slasher movies. So, if you’re looking to slice and dice your way through the month of October, these 31 movies might help. Slash on, everyone!

When does a slasher slip over into the surreal? Usually when you start with a boy emerging fully dressed from a lake, who catches a bus to a church, where a priest laments on the nature of sin while cross cutting to a group of six 20-somethings from all walks of (okay, North American) life? This is the first 15 minutes of The Redeemer (1978) folks, and you will get your bearings as the group of six gather for a high school reunion where they’re given a bloody Ted talk on sin and redemption from a multiple-masked killer in the spirit of Terror Train (1980) - if that spirit had been around two years previous. Not only is it a touch prescient, it’s surprisingly creepy as hell through not only the killer’s various guises, but an insidiously Christian treatise on what it deems modern society’s “ills”. But, you know,...

Graphic Nature: Marc Schoenbach on Creating the Tourist Trap Vinyl Score Artwork for Waxwork Records
A warped, schizophrenic journey into the dark recesses of the mind, David Schmoeller’s Tourist Trap is a fragmented piece of cult cinema dripping in masked mayhem and macabre mannequins. Released in 1979, instead of the clichés of maniacal knife wielders that plagued the genre in the following decades, the film reveled in using elements of suspense, eerie cinematography, and a deeply unsettling score courtesy of Italian composer Pino Donaggio. After tracking down the original masters and re-working them perfectly for the vinyl grooves, Waxwork Records contracted Marc Schoenbach, artist from Sadist Art Designs, whose deadpan delivery was essential in carving out the lush visual imagery that mirrored the bleak but beautiful audio within.
Reflecting upon how he got caught up with the Tourist Trap reissue, Schoenbach explained, “When I quit my job as a psychologist (okay, I was fired, but they asked me to come back and I said no...

You’re thinking maybe a different setting will yield a fresh take, already tired tropes blurring your vision and making the distinction between a hockey mask and a fencing one harder by the day. Well…have you tried the hospital yet? Most folks are terrified of the antiseptic halls and robotic empathy doled out by uncaring staff. (Yes, yes, they also save lives, I know. I’m trying to set a mood, dammit.) And if you do decide to enter the medical field, I strongly suggest you pay a visit to Hospital Massacre (1981), Israeli King of Schlock Boaz Davidson’s wild attempt at a horror comedy, where some of the humor is even intentional.
