Actor/director Carlo Verdone recalls that, much to his astonishment, he was contacted by the already legendary Sergio Leone. Leone invited him to his mansion and, when first meeting Verdone, told him: "Io devo ancora capì perché me fai ride" ("I still don't get why I find you funny"). Leone eventually helped Verdone produce the movie.
Sergio Leone, who produced the movie and was a personal friend/mentor of young Carlo Verdone, advised him to run around the building three times before filming a scene, to appear more agitated. Verdone, already tired, decided to only pretend to do so, left the room, and returned after a while. Leone slapped Verdone and told him he had checked and would not be fooled. Verdone eventually complied, and later admitted the little trick helped his performance.
First movie role for Carlo Verdone as main actor, director, and screenwriter. Prior to this movie he had become famous playing sketches on Italian television RAI.
Many filming locations became of touristic interest and there are plates to indicate them: for example, under the Porta Settimiana in Rome and in the Piazza Rossellini of Ladispoli, where Carlo Verdone uncovered a commemorative plate in 2020. In the same year Verdone and co-star Renato Scarpa uncovered another commemorative plate at the so-called "death pole", a high-voltage pylon on the outskirts of Rome where Enzo (Carlo Verdone) and Sergio (Renato Scarpa) used to meet at the beginning of the film.
Carlo Verdone stated that after shooting the scene of Marisol (Veronica Miriel) swimming naked in the fountain, someone stole the actress' jeans, so he had to drive her home in her undies on his moped, followed by a lot of curious guys.
