Women’s reproductive health is rarely depicted in movies, according to a new report from the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative.
A new research brief from Dr. Stacy L. Smith, who founded the Institute, looked at the 100 most popular movies of 2023 for portrayals related to pregnancy, miscarriage, infertility, contraception, abortion, menstruation, and overall reproductive health.
“For years we have provided data on how Hollywood marginalizes girls and women on screen,” said Dr. Smith in a statement shared with TheWrap. “This latest report offers further evidence that it is not only the presence of women themselves that is missing on screen, but of critical depictions related to their health and well-being.”
The results show that only 42% of films contained any depiction of reproductive health in 2023. There were 8 depictions of menstruation, most of them in
Kelly Fremon Craig’s “Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret,” which was based on the classic book by Judy Blume.

The Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack is, much like the game itself, poised to be one of the best of the year.
While composers Marcin Przybyłowicz, P. T. Adamczyk, Paul Leonard-Morgan are looking to surpass The Witcher 3‘s incredible original score, the real story of Cyberpunk 2077‘s soundtrack may be the game’s GTA-like radio stations and their lineups of licensed songs.
Of course, you may not initially realize that Cyberpunk 2077‘s soundtrack is loaded with licensed hits as a quick Spotify search for in-game bands like Window Weather, Bara Nova, and Tainted Overlord yields no relevant results. Well, that’s because all of the bands in Cyberpunk 2077 go by pseudonyms designed to better match the lore and style of the Cyberpunk universe. For instance, Run the Jewels is “Yankee and the Brave,” Nina Kraviz is “Bara Nova,” and Converge is “Shattered Void.”

Ouch—we even felt that burn. Kate Beckinsale is known to stand up for herself online against social media critics and trolls without mincing words. On Wednesday, that was the case again after sharing her new cover for the June issue of Women's Health UK. "I'm So excited to be on the cover of @womenshealthuk - however please be aware we shot this when it wasn't a pandemic, and gadding about up a mountain in your pants talking about health and bottom exercises wasn't actually as weird as it seems now," she captioned a shot of the cover on her Instagram page. One Flew Over the Butcher Shop: Altman’s Klutzy Crafting of “Beyond Therapy” (1987) | Blu-ray Review
The 1980s were a difficult period for Robert Altman, stumbling into the decade with two high profile projects, HealtH and Popeye, both poorly received. Although several titles from this era are worthy of reconsideration and/or are among some of his best, time has not been kind to all of them. Perhaps chief amongst these is his 1987 comedic failing Beyond Therapy, based on Christopher Durang’s (who co-wrote the script) Broadway play.
Featuring Altman’s usual predilections and shot in Paris despite being set in New York, it’s an odd mix of sexual identity politics and slapstick comedy (think Bringing Up Baby or His Girl Friday) but with jarring tonal shifts, ungainly editing and two highly unlikeable lead performances.…...

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier looks like it’s shaping up pretty damn well. It’ll be the first of many McU shows exclusive to Disney Plus and is expected to launch in Fall 2020. The plot will see a power struggle between our heroes and the Us government in the wake of Steve Rogers’ decision to hand the mantle of Captain America down to Sam Wilson/the Falcon, with their preferred candidate being the secretly deranged Us Agent.
The show should also give Sebastian Stan his time to shine as Bucky Barnes. The character’s been present for every major McU crossover since Captain America: The Winter Soldier but has often been slightly overlooked despite having a slow redemptive arc. But Bucky’s character won’t be the only thing that’s developing, as his body has, too.
In an interview with Men’s Health, Stan explained that he...

Especially Nikki, who in the last two years went through a very public breakup with fellow WWE star John Cena. We've already pegged Jenna Dewan-Tatum and Channing Tatum as one of our favorite couples in Hollywood...but just because they may appear perfect to all of us, doesn't mean they are. In fact, the actress opened up about her relationship with Health magazine, admitting that when people call her family "perfect" it makes her want to scream. "I think there are such things as great fits. It is a great fit as long as you are growing together, and I think up until this point we've really grown together," she said. "We've always had the same values. But we're not perfect! Are you kidding? We fight like other couples, we disagree about things, we have days where we don't really...

David Foster and Katharine McPhee take their love overseas.
The 68-year-old producer and the American Idol alum were spotted taking a stroll in Paris, France on Tuesday, hugging, kissing and taking pics of one another.
The 33-year-old Scorpio star wore navy leggings, a black jacket and beanie and tennis shoes. She wrapped her arms around Foster, who kept things casual in jeans, a black coat and aviators with one of the lens missing.

This isn't the first time cameras have caught the twosome packing on the Pda. Earlier this month, McPhee and Foster were spotted kissing after lunch at E Baldi in Beverly Hills, California.
The couple has been rumored to be dating since May and have since been spotted at various events and dates together.
McPhee, however, insisted that they were nothing more than friends in a recent interview with Health magazine.

Robert Altman: Eclectic Maverick

Editor’s note: This article originally appeared in the April 1999 issue of Venice Magazine.
It's the Fall of 1977 and I'm a bored and rebellious ten year old in search of a new movie to occupy my underworked and creativity-starved brain, feeling far too mature for previous favorites Wily Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) and Return of the Pink Panther (1975), and wanting something more up-to-date and edgy than Chaplin's City Lights (1931). I needed a movie to call my favorite that would be symbolic of my own new-found manhood (and something that would really piss off my parents and teachers). Mom and Dad were going out for the evening, leaving me with whatever unfortunate baby-sitter happened to need the $10 badly enough to play mother hen to an obnoxiously precocious only child like myself. I scanned the TV Guide for what...

Maverick filmmaker Robert Altman dies at 81
Columnist Martin Grove: Altman's final Oscar shot
The last time I encountered Robert Altman was two months ago at a reception in Beverly Hills. Two things stand out in my mind, especially in light of his passing Monday at age 81. The first was that to hold a conversation, he needed to sit down. Standing for any period of time was too difficult for him. Yet, second, his greatest enthusiasm was reserved for describing a project that he hoped to make next year. He grew animated when he explaining how hand-held cameras would shoot long takes featuring many actors; in other words, a blueprint for a typical Altman film.
I reminded Altman that for many years he lived across the street from my family in Mandeville Canyon in West Los Angeles. I vividly recall the night this neighbor and an unknown Canadian actor named Donald Sutherland came to UCLA, where I was studying theater arts, to show students a film he had just made titled MASH. No one knew what to expect. Everyone was blown away.
The only occasion when I was able to spend time in his company was in St. Petersburg, Fla., on the set of a movie he made in 1979 titled Health. You may be excused if you've never heard of it.
