Vintage motorcycles were sourced to the production by some of the USA's biggest collectors. These included Herb Ottaway, Jerry Ottaway and Bud Ekins the latter of whom was a veteran Hollywood stuntman who also worked in stunts on the picture.
The movie had two working titles, ''Winner Take All'' then ''The Moonbeam Rider'', before ''Fast Charlie... the Moonbeam Rider'' was finally settled upon.
The name of the big inaugural motorbike race was the ''First Intercontinental Motorcycle Race''.
