Arthur Lowe died when filming was about to start on series 3, so Robin Bailey took over the role.

This is the first time Robin Bailey took over a character that had previously been played by Arthur Lowe. The next was Charters of Charters & Caldicott (1985) fame - Lowe had played the role in the The Lady Vanishes (1979).
