more than a collage of pretty pictures

I agree it was brilliant but it was a lot more than just pretty pictures. As I recall it worked on a multiplicity of levels. It was a portrait of the planet and of a town. It follows it's subjects throughout the overlapping times of a day, a year, and a generation. One of the most moving and beautifully photographed works I have seen.
