The famous rumor has it that during a film festival Andrzej Wajda was approached by the legendary director Elia Kazan, who asked him where he had found such a wonderful writer. Wajda was amused because the play "Wesele" is one of immortal classics of Polish literature, well-known to every school kid in Poland, but considered difficult to appreciate by foreigners. It was written by the renowned Cracovian painter and writer Stanislaw Wyspianski in 1901.
