The Rolling Stones turned down an invitation to play Woodstock partly because Mick Jagger was making this film.

The opening scenes were filmed in the Old Melbourne Gaol, where Kelly was imprisoned, and on the scaffold from which Kelly was hanged. The gaol (jail) at 377 Russell Street, Melbourne, is now a tourist attraction.
