I first saw this little film some years ago on the old VHS video format at a video rental place that had an impressive selection of foreign films. 'The Cannon & The Nightengale' as it was indicated in the subtitle is a quartet of short stories about Greece during the various occupations during World War 2. Two of the stories are comedies, and two are dramas. My personal favourite is one where a German officer takes over the house of an average Greek citizen, who is obviously not happy about the arrangement, but can do little about it, except make his uninvited guest feel as unwelcome as possible. The other three stories tell tales of the English,Italian & American occupations. The film's black & white photography is a treat for the eye, and the rest of the film is well written & directed (by two directors,no less). No rating, but serves up a bit of rude humour.
