Decent historical drama about the Guardia Civil and a captain who undertakes feats , adventures and sense of honour to glorify the Guardia Civil . Stars José Suarez giving a nice acting as the upright hero , at the time he was an international actor performing as first figure the Italian films as El Magistrado , El Desafio and especially Calle Mayor (1956) with Betsy Blair, maybe his most well known film, for which he would receive awards as best actor. The success of this film at the Venice festival opened him the doors to the foreign cinema. He would go on playing mostly detective stories, drama, westerns and some comedies in Spanish and European productions such as : Cartago en llamas, Siete Hombres de Oro , Adiós, Texas , La muerte de un presidente , Operacion Silencio and many others . He's well accompanied by a familiar cast , such as : Gloria Cámara as his young girlfriend , Miguel Palenzuela as his nasty brother, Marta May as his sister-in-law , Manuel Gas and the French Gerard Landry as Duke Ahumada who was a Spanish Army officer known for being the founder and first Director-General of the Civil Guard. The motion picture was professionally produced/directed by the prolific Ignacio F. Iquino .
The film is based on historical deeds about the birth of the Guardia Civil
and its main promoter , Francisco Javier Girón, 2nd Duke of Ahumada . In 1842, when his father died, he assumed the titles of Marquess of the Amarillas, inherited from his grandfather, and of Duke of Ahumada, granted to his father by the Queen Governor, Maria Christina of the Two Sicilies. Under the orders of General Narváez participates in almost all the clashes that take place in Castile and Andalusia between the government army and the supporters of Carlos María Isidro de Borbón, brother of Fernando VII and uncle, therefore, of Isabel II. After the First Carlist War, his merits were recognized in campaign and loyalty to the Queen with the promotion to field marshal and the appointment as Military Inspector-General. On April 15, 1844, the government led by prime minister Luis González Bravo entrusted him with the task of organizing a new law enforcement corp, the Civil Guard (at that time called Inspector-General) . The Duke was chosen because of his fame of an orderly person with an extraordinary capacity for work and meticulousness. The Duke dedicated all his forces to create an effective police corp under the principles of courage, discipline, rigid instruction, dedication to others and subordination to established power.
