This was Steve Reeves' first movie after leaving the sword and sandal genre. He would make a sequel to this and, after a 4 year hiatus, would try his hand at the next big Italian film craze, the "spaghetti western," before retiring from the screen.
Passed by the British Board of Film Censors with a "U" certificate on 14 October 1964. Unfortunately, UK distributors M-G-M did not consider the film good enough as a main feature and held up the release for six months. It finally emerged as the lower half of a double bill with Girl Happy (1965) starring Elvis Presley. Both films went out pre-release (Derby, Burton-on-Trent, ABC Fulham Road, etc.) on Sunday, 4 April 1965. The general release proper was scheduled for Monday, 12 April 1965.
Italian censorship visa # 41879 delivered on 18 December 1963.
