Rich girl Andrea von Bruggern (Ann Smyrner), who looks like a young Ann-Margret (it's the hair), discovers her fiancee is planning to be a bigamist. So she flees to Venice for a fling of her own, with famous pianist Stefan Schroeder (Walter Reyer) no less. Most of this movie consists of two or more people sitting down to talk in enormous sets that are lit as if shadows don't exist. They seem to be talking for ten to fifteen minutes at a time, in a mostly static shot. There are some interludes outside, but they pass quickly and wordless (insert musical interlude here).
Although their Romanze mainly consists of her listening to him performing music, Andrea still manages to become pregnant and like all good girls, she immediately returns home. Her father welcomes her back (after a lengthy talk) on the condition that she bares a son. Before you know it, little Michael is eight years old (don't you just hate when that happens). A shot of somebody flipping through a photo album conveniently replaces all intervening years. Then Stefan (with spray on gray hair around the temples), who now lives in America, comes to town for a concert and we find out the little boy can sing like an angel (actually more like a grown up woman). Will his parents be reunited after all?
