The second movie by Jean-Pierre Mocky deals with a hot topic (at the time) which caused a scandal in the early sixties: a couple called a spade a spade :their sexual intercourse is not what it used to be after they've been married for three years. It's given a full Nouvelle vague treatment ,The screenplay is loose and acting (particularly Juliette Mayniel ,a shooting starlet of the era) undistinguished .
The movie, which may seem terribly dated and even boring is partially saved by Raymond Queneau whose "Zazie dans le métro" Louis Malle transferred to the screen the same year. He puts the hero in the world of the spoilt child :the couple has got no children after all .Some of the poet's lines hit home " daddy ,why don't you make a coffin which would go to the moon?-if you are a good boy,I will".
But the connection between the cinema of the absurd of Quesneau and the couple who needs icons (Monroe,Brando) to prevent their sexual life from falling into run-of-the-mill escapes me,I fear.
