Captain Grey Holden's (Darren McGavin) riverboat was named "Enterprise".
Burt Reynolds left the show in the middle of the first season because of behind-the-scenes disputes with Darren McGavin. He was replaced by Noah Beery Jr.. when the second season began.
Scenes showing the riverboat Enterprise paddling down the Mississippi River were miniature sets filmed in Hollywood.
Chip's dog, Andy Jackson, never received any screen credits.
The first of two series that Burt Reynolds would leave, not feeling that his character was doing enough. The other would be Gunsmoke, for which he appeared on two seasons. Here he's in about 75% of the first season. He later said that doing guest spots on various shows (from The Twilight Zone to The FBI) taught him more about his acting craft than any his role in Riverboat.
