One of the most unique franchises to emerge in the last fifteen years, V/H/S feels like an indefinite horror franchise. After enough of the filmmakers broke through in the mainstream, other emerging voices have been eager to add their names to the franchise. Like Punk Goes Pop or And1 Mixtape for horror, the series has become a scouting ground for the next great horror filmmakers. With the arrival of V/H/S/Beyond, we’re ranking the films of the franchise. Within each, we also do a mini-ranking of the shorts, so keep an eye out for your favorite shorts.
7. V/H/S: Viral (2014)
While there are moments of Viral that stand out to this day, the overall style and stories rarely live up to the premise. Outside of this franchise, some segments would feel like a great little horror entry, but when the footage does not make sense as something that might come from a VHS,...

Renowned showrunner Shane Byrne and Emmy-winning producer Jamie D’Alton, two of Ireland’s leading TV execs, have teamed up to launch Diffusion Media, a new production company aimed at attracting international unscripted productions to Ireland and taking advantage of mooted Irish tax incentives for the unscripted sector.
D’Alton, who played a pivotal role in developing projects including Netflix doc feature “The Deepest Breath” and “Conor McGregor: Notorious” the highest-grossing Irish documentary of all time, sets up Diffusion after nearly 20 years as co-owner and joint managing director of Motive Television. D’Alton has executive produced and directed some of Ireland’s highest rated TV shows, including “DIY Sos: The Big Build Ireland” and “Special Forces: Ultimate Hell Week,” as well as IFTA-winning films “I Am Immigrant” and “Man on a Mission.”

Kim Zolciak-Biermann plans a return to reality TV with a new show, but it’s not necessarily going to involve Bravo for the Real Housewives of Atlanta alum. She’s hinted at more reality TV in the past. Don’t Be Tardy ran for eight seasons, and a new show might be just what she needs as she struggles financially. It’s not likely that her few Rhoa cameos helped much with money.
Rhoa Kim Zolciak & Kroy Biermann In A New Show?
A hint about a return to reality TV arrived in August last year. However, as the Rhoa alum and Kroy Biermann split, will they both be on a TV show? Both of them struggle for money, and that might be enough for viewers to see them together. The question might arise whether Bravo fans would be interested in watching what might become toxic.

Kim Zolciak’s exile from reality TV is coming to an end.
Page Six reports that The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum has a new unscripted series in the works.
The outlet stresses that the project is still in the early stages of development, but the popular TV personality is speaking “with several networks and streamers.”
There’s no telling where the project might land, but Zolciak has had much success on Bravo, the home of Rhoa.
She and her family headlined Don’t Be Tardy for eight seasons until its cancellation in 2020.
Since then, she’s had some cameos on Rhoa but isn’t expected to return for the revamped Season 16.
Kim Zolciak has experienced big changes in her personal life
Her planned return to the small screen comes amid some big changes in her personal, including her ongoing divorce from Kroy Biermann and financial woes.

While you wait for V/H/S/85 later this year, V/H/S/99 has hit Blu-ray and DVD. Among the extras for the fifth installment in the found footage horror franchise is an audio commentary moderated by Bloody Disgusting’s own The Boo Crew Podcast hosts Trevor Shand and Leone D’Antonio.
All six filmmakers participate for their respective segments: Maggie Levin for “Shredding,” Johannes Roberts for “Suicide Bid,” Flying Lotus for “Ozzy’s Dungeon,” Tyler MacIntyre for “The Gawkers,” and Vanessa & Joseph Winter for “To Hell and Back.”
Here are seven things I learned from the V/H/S/99 commentary…
1. The film almost didn’t have a wraparound story.
Wraparound segments are traditionally used to make an anthology feel of one piece rather than a random collection of shorts, but the producers originally intended to forgo the framing device on V/H/S/99.
It was later decided to use the increasingly ambitious stop-motion...

Released through the Shudder streaming service last October, the horror anthology film V/H/S/99 quickly became the most-watched film in the history of Shudder. It’s a good thing they already greenlit another sequel – V/H/S/85 – for this year. But while we wait to see how V/H/S/85 is going to turn out, Rlje Films has given V/H/S/99 a Blu-ray, DVD, and steelbook release – and copies can be purchased at This Link.
The story segments that make up V/H/S/99 were directed by Maggie Levin (Into The Dark: My Valentine), Johannes Roberts (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City), Flying Lotus (Kuso), Tyler MacIntyre (Tragedy Girls), and Joseph & Vanessa Winter (Deadstream). Here’s the synopsis: V/H/S/99 harkens back to the final punk rock analog days of VHS, while taking one giant leap forward into the hellish new millennium. In V/H/S/99, a thirsty teenager’s home video leads to a series of horrifying revelations.
Josh Goldbloom produced V/H/S/99 for Cinepocalypse.

Dieth, the new death metal band featuring ex-Megadeth bassist David Ellefson, have announced their debut album, To Hell and Back. The title track is available now ahead of the June 2nd release date.
Ellefson formed Dieth with ex-Entombed A.D. guitarist/vocalist Guilherme Miranda and drummer Michał Łysejko (ex-Decapitated) last year, and the unit’s death/thrash pedigree shines through on “To Hell and Back.” Miranda and Łysejko bring the extreme tendencies of their former bands — over-the-top guttaral vocals and technical rhythms, respectively — while Ellefson anchors the low-end as he so often did in Megadeth.
“‘To Hell and Back’ is the song that best describes our individual and collective journeys as professional musicians,” commented Miranda in a press statement. “For an album to connect with the listener, it has to have deep meaning, and this wraps up this whole moment for us. We’ve been to Hell — and we’re Back!

The odds are not good for “V/H/S” — which is to say it’s the even-numbered entries in this horror omnibus franchise that have been by far the best to date. As No. 5, “V/H/S/99” unfortunately maintains that pattern, providing an uninspired extension of the series that had rebounded after a seven-year lull with last fall’s “V/H/S/94.”
That installment was typically uneven, but the better segments were terrific. Here, nothing stands out: The best episodes are merely good enough, and the worst just tiresome. Nonetheless, this brand has proven viewer appeal for genre streaming platform Shudder, where it should do well when launched in various territories on Oct. 20. Set in 1999 — the tail of the titular format’s commercial reign, since DVDs were introduced two years prior — the film is unlikely to be the series’ last.
If this “V/H/S” has any binding theme, it would appear to be bullying. All...

Get ready to celebrate the New Millennium with some horrifying new found footage!! Our friends at Bloody-Disgusting have launched the first teaser trailer for V/H/S/99, the latest horror anthology offering from this exceptional series. The original V/H/S debuted in 2012, with the first sequel V/H/S/2 out right after in 2013, then V/H/S/94 in 2021. This latest one is premiering at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival in Midnight Madness, then following up with a premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX. Witness a hellish vision of 1999, as social isolation, analog technology and disturbing home videos fuse into a nightmare of found footage savagery. "Before selfies, before cell phones," there were monsters and spiders and murderers and creepy cults and more crazy shit. This looks insane!! I always appreciate how much they try to outdo themselves every time with each new V/H/S anthology. This one has five new segments to enjoy: "Ozzy's Dungeon" (it must involve Ozzy Osbourne?...

Criminal Minds never shied away from some really disturbing cases.
While the show's entirety is considerably dark, some of their unsubs bring the disturbing factor up to a 10 (and more).
With news that Criminal Minds plans on making a return on Paramount+, we decided to gather some of the most disturbing episodes we could think of!
Of course, a lot of this list is objective, and we can't make a list that's forever long (because we could definitely fill a very long list with disturbing cases).

The 2021 CMT Music Awards will be presented tonight, June 9, during a ceremony hosted by nominees Kelsea Ballerini and Kane Brown and airing live across Viacom networks including CMT, MTV, MTV2, Logo, Paramount, and TV Land. But who will win? Scroll down for our official racetrack odds in six categories, which are based on the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. Our projected winners are highlighted in gold.
The CMT Awards differ from other country music events in that they’re decided strictly by fans voting online, unlike the CMA and ACM Awards, which are handed out by industry peers. And we’re betting that fans will be kinder to Carrie Underwood than those other awards often are. She rarely wins Entertainer of the Year at those events (and often isn’t even nominated), but she has won the top prize here more than anyone else, claiming Video of the Year eight times.

Exclusive: Arthur E. Friedman and Steven Jay Rubin are developing a limited series that will explore the life of actor, Congressional Medal of Honor winner and World War II hero Audie Murphy.
Friedman and Rubin have acquired rights to the 1959 Murphy biography No Name on the Bullet, written by Don Graham. The producers have teamed with Graham’s widow Betsy Berry for the project, and the search is now on for a writer to adapt.

“I don’t think I know these songs that well, and I wrote them!” said Maren Morris, complementing the audience early in her sold-out performance at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on Wednesday night.
She wasn’t exaggerating by much — the singer-songwriter’s new album Girl came out Friday, March 8th, and the Ryman show was only the second stop of her headlining 2019 Girl: The World Tour. Even so, Morris pulled out all the stops, blending pop-star swagger with the intimacy of a scaled-down songwriter’s night and even calling up guests Brandi Carlile,...

In the annals of cinema, there are just certain names that we’ve found synonymous with the horror genre such as Boris Karloff, Bela Lugosi and Vincent Price. But as time went on and the idea of sequels and franchises became the norm, one could say that the characters themselves outgrew any one performer, with the likes of Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers being some of the most notable examples.
Still, it’s the ones that have done the dance more than once that are most favored by fans. In the case of the aforementioned Jason Voorhees, many gravitate toward Kane Hodder as he’s played the character in four films, those being the seventh through tenth entries in the Friday the 13th franchise. Most fortunate for him, he’s also found a new home in recent years in the form of the Hatchet series, playing the grotesque Victor Crowley.

MaryAnn’s quick take… A rom-com for people who hate rom-coms. A painfully funny movie, full of enrapturing emotion that captures the glorious contradictions of all kinds of love. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing
I’m “biast” (con): not a fan of romantic comedies
(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)
How many ways can a movie be spoiled by its own mere existence so that it’s ruined before you even see it? We now know that it’s more than the many ways in which The Big Sick spoils itself, because its multiply-foregone conclusion does not hinder its amusements, lessen its drama, or take away from its big, big, all-enrapturing emotion. It’s kind of amazing.
The Big Sick is the basically-true, just-a-little-bit-fictionalized story of the relationship between actor and comedian Kumail Nanjiani (Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Goosebumps) and writer and producer Emily V. Gordon,...

The film, in which Ms. Calloway co-stars with Ernie Hudson, is a modern day retelling of the Book of Job, which follows a successful businessman and father whose life falls apart after a series of tragic...

Back when the first "Sin City" was released in 2005, the idea of doing a 1:1 translation of a graphic novel for the big screen was so outside the box that it bordered on lunacy. But that's just what Robert Rodriguez, the filmmaker behind "Desperado" and "Spy Kids," did when adapting Frank Miller's hard-boiled graphic novel "Sin City."
Instead of appropriating the look and feel of the comic book, he just Xeroxed it. It was still black-and-white, with flashes of color, and the actors he chose (among them, Mickey Rourke as the mountainous bad-ass Marv, and Jessica Alba as damsel-in-distress Nancy) were so uncannily close to their comic book equivalents that they might as well have been inked and painted.
Rodriguez also made the generous decision to bring Miller on board as a screenwriter and co-director (something that the DGA frowned upon, leading to Rodriguez losing out on a number of high-profile studio gigs). Together,...

The work of H.P. Lovecraft has inspired not only legions of fans throughout the years but an entire sub-genre of horror. Highlighted by frail, false realities masking a horrific and unfathomable truth… and of course, tentacles, fans embrace Lovecraftian horror films like the squishy appendages they feature.
And with the release of Dead Shadows, we remember our Top 11 Lovecraftian Horror Films.
This list contains not just movies inspired by the writings of H.P. Lovecraft, although some of them are certainly here; it also has movies that fall into the Lovecraftian-inspired category. Cosmic horror of the unknown and unknowable that could fracture sanity hovering over reality. Cthulhu. And, of course, those tentacles we mentioned earlier.
As for honorable mentions, how about the wildly popular hit HBO show "True Detective" for starters? There are certainly some Lovecraftian influences there, including Rust Cohle's ideas on fate and religion and the cult of Hastur operating in Louisiana.

For Hollywood filmmakers everywhere, there’s arguably no production day more satisfying than the one where they get to create a fake movie-within-a-movie. Because it’s like starting a brand new project – one with less pressure and an unashamed sense of fun surrounding it. You also know that your audience are probably going to love it, ’cause everybody loves a movie-within-a-movie, don’t they?
And in some cases, as with Robert Rodriguez’s Machete, movies-within-movies eventually wind up getting made as fully-fledged flicks – thus is the power of a great fake trailer. Almost always hilarious, self-aware, clever (and sometimes even better than the movies that they appear in), here are 10 more of our favourite fake movies-within-movies that we’d definitely venture out to the theatre to see…
