During a three-hour discussion on a recent episode of “The Empire Film Podcast,” Edgar Wright and Quentin Tarantino revealed the existence of their makeshift quarantine movie club over the last 9 months. As Wright explained, “It’s nice. We’ve kept in touch in a sort of way that cinephiles do. It’s been one of the very few blessings of this [pandemic], the chance to disappear down a rabbit hole with the hours indoors that we have.” Tarantino added, “Edgar is more social than I am. It’s a big deal that I’ve been talking to him these past 9 months.”
A bulk of the film club was curated by none other than Martin Scorsese, who sent Wright a recommendation list of nearly 50 British films that Scorsese considers personal favorites. In the five months Wright spent in lockdown before resuming production on “Last Night in Soho” — and before he received the...

Rapper-slash-entrepreneur 50 Cent (né Curtis Jackson) knows the power of the dollar, but it turns out his piggy bank is empty. He filed for bankruptcy on Monday, despite his alleged "racks on rack and racks" and repeated spots on Forbes' wealthiest artists list. Here's a look back at happier times, when 50 was still bragging about his 7421 cars, his designer duds, and his bloated bank accounts.Power of the Dollar, 2000 "Thug Love"Fifth Av. shit baby, Fendi furs I ain't tight with the chips, girl I'm down to splurge If it's ice you like I'll light up your life VS2 Clarity alright "The Good Die Young"It's the money that makes shit get uglyIt's the money that makes these hoes love meIt's the money that makes niggas wanna slug meMan, I thought the money would make it all lovely "That Ain’t Gangsta"I represent niggas in the hood gettin' richMan, I...

Ron Moody as Fagin in 'Oliver!' based on Charles Dickens' 'Oliver Twist.' Ron Moody as Fagin in Dickens musical 'Oliver!': Box office and critical hit (See previous post: "Ron Moody: 'Oliver!' Actor, Academy Award Nominee Dead at 91.") Although British made, Oliver! turned out to be an elephantine release along the lines of – exclamation point or no – Gypsy, Star!, Hello Dolly!, and other Hollywood mega-musicals from the mid'-50s to the early '70s.[1] But however bloated and conventional the final result, and a cast whose best-known name was that of director Carol Reed's nephew, Oliver Reed, Oliver! found countless fans.[2] The mostly British production became a huge financial and critical success in the U.S. at a time when star-studded mega-musicals had become perilous – at times downright disastrous – ventures.[3] Upon the American release of Oliver! in Dec. 1968, frequently acerbic The...

After Ke$ha publicly blasted her hit song 'Die Young' after it was pulled from the radio in the wake of the tragic Newtown shooting, HollywoodLife.com has Exclusively learned why the pop star is really upset! Ke$ha is maybe the most outspoken singer out there today, and after tweeting and deleting a post on Dec. 19 that said “I had my very own issues with 'die young' for this reason. I did Not want to sing those lyrics and I was Forced To,” HollywoodLife.com has found out what she is really thinking about the uproar and controversy! A source close to the pop singer tells HollywoodLife.com Exclusively that the pop star is feeling as though she is being attacked for something she shouldn't be, telling close friends, "Now does Billy Joel have to take off his songs from the radio!" She is obviously referencing his song, "Only The Good Die Young,...

I had a chance to chat with Jesse Blaze Snider about his newest comic endeavor, a revamp of the classic ’90’s horror comic Evil Ernie. The iconic character, known more for his look and his talking smiley face button than the actual storyline, is getting a major overhaul with it’s new license owner, Dynamite Entertainment. Jesse Snider (son of Dee Snider of Twisted Sister and Holliston fame) took some time to talk with us about the comic. And after reading the first two issues, this is definitely a comic I think you will dig.
How did you get involved in the Evil Ernie project and with the publisher, Dynamite Entertainment?
Dynamite has been wanting to work with me for a while and Alex Ross and Nick Barrucci read the whole comic that I worked on for Marvel and they wanted to work with me on a project that went...

Recently, I have self-diagnosed myself with vocal polyps following a few singing related incidents. It all started about 2 weeks ago, while on vacation in my hometown of Miami, when me and a few friends found ourselves stuck in standstill traffic with nothing more than a live Elton John concert on 101.5 Lite FM. Down the windows of my father’s sensible sedan went, as we serenaded passerby from a nearby Heat game to a whiff of our “Philadelphia Freedom.” That night was vocal mistake #1. Mistake #2 came a few days later when I sang Billy Joel’s “Honesty” alone to myself in my car, and I swear to God, nailed it. Sorry American Idol‘s Hollie Cavanagh, but you have nothing on the brilliance that sailed out of my mouth in my Mercury Milan. In short: I am now like a much less famous Adele when it comes to polyps and polyps...

This week's "American Idol" saw the contestants tackling the music of Billy Joel, regardless of the fact that before tonight, the majority of them probably wouldn't have been able to name more than one of the artist's songs without hitting Wikipedia first.
In my mind, the show's stubborn insistence on clinging to theme nights based on "classics" like The Beatles and Elvis -- who, while groundbreaking and inspirational in terms of their impact on music as a whole, generally have no bearing on today's charts -- is what really hobbles "Idol" as a hit-making series. These artists aren't going to be singing songs that were released 20 years before they were born in their own careers, so why force them to run the gamut of styles and arrangements that are the antithesis of their identities as vocalists now? All it seems to do is highlight irrelevant weaknesses that have no impact...

Ah, here we go. So let's see what we had this season – Cas got Sam out of the cage, and had no soul for a year, in which he worked with Samuel and did some nasty crap. Dean found out Sam's alive, left theBraedens to hunt with him. They worked for Crowley to get Sam's soul back, which eventually happened, but thanks to Death. He put up a wall in Sam's head so he won't remember hell or the past year.
Dean and Sam hunted down Eve, the Mother of all Monsters, and killed her, but no before finding out Crowley, who they thought was killed by Cas, is alive and working with Cas. They're both searching for purgatory to get some souls, so Cas can be powerful enough to beat Raphael, and Crowley can…Just be more powerful, since he's now king of Hell.

In this week’s World Cinema column, Nick looks back at the career of Bruce Lee and the kung fu star's lasting cultural impact…
Whatever your relationship to cinema is, whether casual fan or rabid aficionado, Bruce Lee is one name you are guaranteed to have heard of. As more than one person has said to me, he is the reason a lot of people have expanded their film watching from English language films to subtitled ones.
In film history, pop culture, and cultural terms, he is a vital presence and justifiably a legend, despite his all-too-short five film career. The good die young as they say, and in Lee that is most definitely the case. But just why is he such an iconic figure, to not only Eastern audiences, but to Western ones equally? How did this one man fuse together disparate cultures in a time frame noted for...

July 20, 2010: The End Records has announced that it would soon be releasing ex-Nightwish singer Tarja Turunen’s sophomore solo album entitled ‘What Lies Beneath’. The record label has announced August 31 as its U.S release.
‘Falling Awake’ featuring Jason Hook from the band Five Finger Death Punch, is the first single off the record. The single will be released on August 24 at all the digital outlets. The track holds it’s own and is special since it is backed with the famous song ‘The Good Die Young’ from the latest album by the Scorpions. The song on the Scorpions CD incidentally also.
