"Pack Train" is among Gene Autry's last films. However, like his early films, this one pairs Gene with Smiley Burnett...which is a nice touch.
In this story, Gene is working with a group of settlers and he comes into town to buy supplies. However, the only outfit there is a very crooked one...but it is the only outfit. After paying for supplies (including medical supplies), they are promised they'll receive the items within a few days. However, the skunks decide to re-sell the items Gene bought because they got a better price...and a child among the settlers dies because they never received the medicine they paid for in good faith. Not surprisingly, Gene is fighting mad!
While not a great Gene Autry picture, compared to most of his later films, it's pretty good and features a bit more action. Plus, the story has enough new elements that it's decent entertainment.
