In the English language version, Louis Hayward's voice is his own, but Binnie Barnes and Alan Curtis speak with dubbed voices totally unlike their own, much to the detriment of their performances.
The large sailing ship featured in the first part of the film is the "Amerigo Vespucci," a tall ship of the Italian Navy (Marina Militare), named after the Italian explorer and navigator Amerigo Vespucci. Its home port is La Spezia, Italy. Launched in 1931, it is still in use as a training ship.
